awaicu wrote: Kundalini often has the tip of her tail securely clamped between her jaws. It's the only way that she can remain whole and sane. The normally long and sleek tuft of fur adorning her tail is ragged and patchy as a result and the skin beneath it is raw. Despite the discomfort, the Skydancer doesn't dare let go of her tail. If she does, she becomes nothing more than an feral and animalistic beast controlled by her instincts. |

Other dragons may know of odd, almost uncanny dreams that they have. These can happen to any dragon, no matter the circumstance. ...The cause for these are the dreamdancers. They transform into their dream form before toying with the dreams of others. Some dreamdancers terrify their victims ... If you have one of these dreams, you can be certain you are a dreamdancer's prey... |
_______________________________________ ► ABOUT Kundalini hatched in the Catacombs beneath the Cathedral of Eyes. Her future was bleak even then, for a Shade fragment had attached itself to her egg and then burrowed deep into her mind. The Skydancer was born with that darkness already inside of her, whispering pronouncements of corruption and tormenting her with terrible nightmares. The fragment would occasionally take over her body, turning the usually-meek child into a vicious beast that attacked both friend and foe. Kundalini's parents did her best to care for her, but the Cathedral was not a safe place. It was ruled by cruel demons and fairies who would have thought nothing of using the hatchling for their own ends. With the aid of the Cathedral's storyteller, her mother, Icarus, smuggled her out. The little Skydancer was disguised as one of the storyteller's sons and sent to an allied clan. It was hoped that the Disillusionists would be able to excise the Shade fragment from Kundalini. They had had success with a similar case. Unfortunately, as it turned out, the Shade fragment had attached itself to Kundalini's mind and could not be extracted without irreparably damaging her. The best they could do was use sleeping spells and draughts to prevent the beast from rising to the surface. And so the Skydancer retreated further and further into dreams -- while she was asleep, she could not turn feral, and she was relatively free from the Shade's inciting whispers. All was well -- for a while. But as Kundalini continued to grow, so too did the Shade fragment. It took on an identity of its own, calling itself Ourobors. And it grew skilled at manipulating dreams -- not just Kundalini's but also that of other dragons. While Kundalini was relieved that Ouroboros was no longer possessing her body, she worried that it was invading other dragons' dreams and turning them to the Shade. She was powerless to battle the beast in her dreams; she was no Dreamwalker. Instead, the clan employed dragons with special talents to keep Ouroboros in check. Kundalini mostly remains in the catacombs beneath the Disillusionists' lair. She spends most of her time sleeping and dreaming...and hoping she'll see the day that the beast, at last, is banished. |

ABOUT ◄
The Shade had not been destroyed. Fragments of it fell to Sornieth in a deadly rain, and they burrowed beneath the ground like marauding worms. One of them found its way to the Cathedral of Eyes. It stayed in the Catacombs, feeding on the despair, agony, and misery of the fairies' and demons' victims. So much sorrow, so much pain...As the years passed, it grew strong. It could only do so much while it was a bodiless fragment, however. It needed a corporeal host. The eggs of Icarus and Minotaur were heavy with fear, for they were afraid of raising their children in such a dark and dismal place. And so the Shade fragment found these. The first egg it touched, it burrowed into. It lodged itself in the developing hatchling, and it was firmly embedded in her mind at her birth. And so it began whispering of chaos and corruption.... The Shade grew used to its host. It became familiar with her moods, her movements, her mind. Soon it was strong and comfortable enough to take over the child's body. Only for short periods of time -- but that was all the fragment needed to wreak havoc, destroying anything it could get its claws on, savagely attacking the hatchling's parents and siblings. There was little the fragment could do when Kundalini, exhausted, finally fell asleep. But soon it cracked open the doors of her mind, and so even in sleep, Kundalini was tormented, her dreams twisted into terrifying nightmares. The fragment detected Kundalini's desire to hold on to her sense of self, and in mockery it named itself Ouroboros. By then it understood other dragons enough to peer into their minds -- and it found its way into their dreams. These, too, it transformed into nightmares. The sleepers' tranquility was replaced by panic, one of the many emotions that Ouroboros fed on. And feed it did. At dawn it returned to Kundalini's mind, sharing with her its memories of those other dragons' nightmares. Their fears became her own, and Ouroboros continued gorging itself on terror well past sunrise. The Oneironauts, however, soon appeared to fight Ouroboros. Ouroboros has often been confounded by them, but then, it has weathered defeat before. It is patient. It will endure.... |
Friend Son of Scheherazade, twin of Vritra. Indra is a childhood friend of Kundalini's, and their having grown up together means that she can largely understand him despite his curse. He sometimes helps clean her room; on the rare occasions she ventures outside, he usually introduces her to the familiars in his care. _______________________________ |
Annoyance
Ouroboros doesn't care about Indra at all, but his closeness to Kundalini makes him a useful dream figment, and the Dreamdancer sometimes uses his likeness to generate particularly upsetting nightmares. She only rarely attacks his dreams, since she finds him extremely boring. _______________________________ |
Friend Son of Scheherazade, twin of Indra, and another childhood friend of Kundalini's. Similarly, she understands him enough to see through his curse. Vritra is usually away from home, but he often brings presents back for Kundalini, and he makes it a point to spend time with her when he is not traveling. _______________________________ |
Annoyance
Vritra's journeys make him a more interesting target than his goody-two-paws brother. Ouroboros often torments Kundalini with images of the misfortunes that might befall him abroad, and she also sometimes invades his mind to taunt him with the lies he has told. _______________________________ |
Friend The leader of the Oneironauts is one of Kundalini's staunchest allies. Mana is always happy to try cheering the Skydancer up, often using magic tricks and stage patter to break her out of her gloom. _______________________________ |
Foe
Archenemy of the Dreamdancer. Ouroboros also struggles to battle her, for the Oneironauts' leader is a skilled Dreamwalker whose ebullient surface hides a will of steel. _______________________________ |
Friend Kundalini is always a bit intimidated by the gruff, unfriendly Legrasse. She does feel safe around him, however, and often sees him in her dreams. Legrasse, for his part, is aware that Kundalini requires special treatment, and he always tries to treat her more kindly and patiently than usual. _______________________________ |
Hunter
Legrasse is Ouroboros' most dogged pursuer, and she has cultivated a particularly deep hatred for him. She enjoys leading him on wild chases through various dreamscapes and she usually manages to get away from him, but not for long -- he has learned to recognize her scent. _______________________________ |
