Biography

Official Fire Subspecies: Fire Opal

GiSc63l.png
A Fire Opal is a Fae that has:

◾Crystal/Facet/Smoke, Glimmer, or Circuit
◾Sunshine-Fire/Sunshine-Fire/Lemon, bonus for XXY
◾Preferably with Fire, Light, or Arcane eyes

Function
These very small golems have been around almost as long as Coatl kind, and unlike other golems, do not require a master of golem magics to raise them. On the contrary, they tend to reproduce like rodents! These fake fae can be a blight upon crystal and precious ore stores, ruining prized stock to further reproduce themselves. Many clans insist their large, heavy vault doors are not to stop the largest, strongest foes, but to keep out the smallest and flashiest. Despite their potential for being pests if left untamed, clans would do well to befriend one. They are very good at deceiving and deflecting their own kind with highly specific glamors, and a clan with a talented golem specialist can train them in any number of tasks, from message carrying to festive ornaments, and even offensive skills. Imagine something with wings like diamond razor blades deciding to fly down your throat! Those lucky enough to tame a pair of Fire Opals can also see their investments returned, as captive born individuals tend to be much more manageable and will even accept full behavioral implants from novices of the golem magics… if you can get the things to reproduce, however it is they do. No one is sure how the little gem gnats go about it, or how to inspire it.

In Flight Culture
While their wild brethren are much abhorred and can especially be a plague upon the hoards Fire, Earth and Arcane dragons, a tamed Fire Opal is a sign of wealth, considering the amount of gems it must be bribed with to begin the process. Many larger dragon species of great wealth invest time and resources into teaching the golems to pose as jewelry, from necklaces to wing ornaments, crow toppers to clothing clasps. Because of their lack of workmanship, there is a fair amount of difference between individuals. Fire Opals with evenly matched bodies are seen as especially valuable and can be worth many times their unanimated materials. There have been a great many attempts to reproduce the tiny golems as a result, but it seems whatever breath of life created the first of their kind can not be reproduced by modern benefactors of the dying art… much to the woe of their pockets.
