"So what?"

______
Rival:

______ Volos is aware that Niles is probably the biggest threat to his plans, and could easily thrash him in a fight. He's on guard around the ridgeback, making sure to give him a wide berth (much to Niles' confusion and suspicion).

______ Volos: The slavic god of cattle, also associated with the earth, wealth, the underworld, and poetry.

Scent: Smells subtly like the aftermath of rain and mist.

Personality: Cunning, ambitious, arrogant, proud, vain, clever, manipulative, clear-headed, often unscrupulous but has some moral standards. Occasionally insecure, and can rarely have manic breakdowns.

______ Volos was the kind of dragon you wouldn't look at twice. Sure, he was fairly handsome, in a rugged way, but he was just your average coatl. His fluency in the common draconic language and way with words pointed towards a more privileged upbringing, and probably some other breeds in his heritage to assist with his hearing. His dull feathers caused him to be slightly shunned by other coatls, but not enough for a bad childhood. After all, other species had no such compunctions about his plumage. All in all, an incredibly average youth, for an average dragon. But he wasn't average. He couldn't be. He had to be something.

______
Perhaps it would surprise you to know about his ambitions. His plans. His manipulations. A string of accidents in his own clan, leading up to something big. He'd had enough of playing second fiddle to the higher ups, the pair of leaders with no ambition. He'd make a better leader. He didn't have training. He didn't have the experience, but by the Shadowbinder's shade, he'd make a better leader.
It didn't matter if nobody really respected him.
It didn't matter if he wasn't 'leader material'.

Perhaps it was no surprise that his coup failed. His takeover was flawed. When the dust had settled, no one knew that it had been his plan. Volos fled, under the cover of the night, running and flying as fast and far as he could. He eventually found a clan, hidden in the desert. He had planned to give a false story, but none was asked of him. They simply accepted, being the small, ramshackle clan they were. And he adjusted well. In fact, he got on much better with his new clanmates than anyone in his old clan. They treated him better, understood that he was intelligent. He felt much better with his new family. In the end, it didn't matter what happened in the past. It didn't matter that his plans to take over the old clan had failed.

Because this time, it would be easier to take over.

Poem by: Eurydise

It simply wasn’t fair,
That those in power lay upon their chairs,
That no driving spark flared in their brains.
In a different world he could rule.
Those thoughts,
Dangerous ones,
Filled his head.
A coup,
Yes,
That pounded in his mind.
It would work,
It had to.
And sure enough,
He fled soon after.
What ever went wrong?
He could not decipher.
But here it was nicer,
More pleasant than before.
He got along better,
They asked nothing of his past.
So lovely were these folk,
So easily would they be taken over.
