______ Nothing compares to the libraries of the Viridian Labyrinth, their vivid green boughs polished and loaded with endless rows of scrolls and journals. In this particular library, petals litter the floors and pages of each book; flowers fill the air with the aromas of rose and lilac; and butterflies weave in and out of the overfull shelves. A single dragon named Sydda guards over an elaborate mahogany desk. As she pours over a stack of leather bound books, her grape colored wings flutter leisurely behind her.

When a small ivory colored fae flits through the library’s doors, Sydda looks up from her reading in annoyance. “What brings you to academia this morning, Petals?” the librarian asks suspiciously. As she notices the petals shedding from the fae’s skin, Sydda’s butterfly wings fold over her books protectively. “I don’t recall seeing you here before…”

Though Sydda’s voice is laced with superiority, Petals does not seem to mind. “I need a gardening book,” Petals says, “for growing Lilac Time Sempervivum.”

______ "Hmph,” Sydda mumbles. The guardian procures a scroll wrapped in flowering vines. “This might help you, but the language is rather difficult to understand… if you have any trouble comprehending the vocabulary, I can rewrite the material in a way for a… ahem, gardener to understand.”

Petals takes the scroll and expresses her gratitude. Sydda continues to watch the fae with doubt, but just as the other dragon is half way through the door, the librarian calls out, “Give Spicata my greetings, if you’d please... and have a lovely morning!”

The warm glow of the dawn disappears as the door closes. Sydda goes back to reading her books.
