(fey-rah) Beyond occasionally remembering vague snippets of a time of fear, Phaera doesn't remember the majority of his childhood. His magic is strongly attuned for healing and defense. Despite Shial's gentle disapproval, Phaera tends to generously use it on his brother after a fight, regardless of the severity of his wounds. Unlike his brother, who's rough around the edges, Phaera's gentle and kind, often attempting to find a peaceful solution. He's swift, and more prone to fleeing at the first sign of aggressive conflict, yet will steel himself if Shial's in danger (often providing the brief distraction Shial needs in order to defeat their foe). When he's having a particularly hard time getting to sleep, he rests his head on Shial's chest, and listens to the mix of his brother's heartbeat and a lullaby he can't quite place. It works every time. Only agreed to become a sentinel because of his brother. Before a nest of Serthis wiped out their birth clan, the siblings were relatively normal hatchlings that enjoyed playing hide-and-seek, stealing candy from unwitting shopkeepers, and bugging their parents about bedtime. Everything changed on that fateful day, starting with a strange sense of unease. Most of the hatchlings perished in the mad dash for the exit, but not Shial and Phaera. They scrambled up the closest tree and stayed silent; prayed that the aggressive creatures wouldn't find them. They tensely lingered in the tree for a day, then another. Their eyes constantly, tiredly, scanned the ground; Phaera's grip on Shial's arm threatened to permanently cut off circulation whenever he felt a new surge of panic. Shial eventually realized that they had to move, that hunger would kill them as surely as the Serthis' poison, and after some urging, he managed to convince his brother to release him long enough to descend from the tree with him. Careful to not let their gazes linger on the dead, Shial quickly lead his brother away from the desecrated clan they called home, and into the surrounding forest. Thankfully young, they quickly adapted to life in the wild. Shial's cunning and brute strength helped them survive many tough situations before Phaera discovered his magic. With the significant lack of interaction from other dragons, their Draconian quickly evolved into something unique.
