The Windswept Plateau is a wild place, brimming with potential, and the magic in its winds are much the same. There is no telling what a dragon born in the Windsinger's domain could do with their gifts, and in terms of predictability, only the neighboring Starfall Isles sport more uncertain talents than Wind dragons.

Nile happens to be a prime example of the Plateau's cheerful chaos. Born to the heights of the Reedcleft Ascent, she spent her early years with her focus split between two things: learning to master flight in the Twisting Crescendo, and learning the art of transmutation. The former came easily to her; she had bigger wings than many of her fellows, and a heavier body to throw around as a counterweight to the dangerous updrafts. Transmutation, though, is a fickle art, and Nile was forced to take her time learning its ins and outs, not to mention all the ways to go wrong. Her current appearance, so lupine in nature, are a result of this careful study; not every dragon in the art of transmutation is successful all the time, and Nile was unable to get out of the way of a spell that backfired.

Nowadays, she's more than talented enough to remove the enchantment on her features, but she's become accustomed to them. It makes her fearsome, which gives her great joy when teasing her way through a conversation, and it makes her look sly.

These features are also what brought Nile and Cattail together.

Traveling to the Sunbeam Ruins to further study transmutation, she met Cattail and his patrol, and they mistook her for a wolf, shooting at her. Cattail was a particularly excellent marksman, and the only one to just barely graze the fur along her spine. She challenged him to a friendly duel that night, and though he waltzed in looking quite sure of himself, he came out the other side smitten.

Their duel was something of a draw. Nile never won, but neither did Cattail. She threaded herself around him, using her transmutation to take on shapes beyond his wildest dreams in an effort to confuse him, and while he always managed to find a way to see through her disguise, he never did quite lay a claw on her.

That evening, they parted ways with a promise to keep in touch, spending the better part of year after that trading letters. Cattail tended to write sincere ones, attaching sketches of the beautiful lands his patrol saw, while Nile enjoyed sending him foreign sweets and new transmutation tricks for him to toy with. Gradually, their paths closed in again so that letters were no longer necessarily, and with a little time, Cattail became king of the clan, and asked Nile to stand at his side as queen.

She accepted readily, but only on the condition that she be permitted to continue teaching transmutation to younger dragons, the very activity that facilitated her earlier travels. Once this was settled (albeit grudgingly) by Aethos, always unnerved by the wily nature of transmutation, she took up the throne, and has helped her mate rule more than competently ever since.

Where Cattail hesitates to make his own decisions on account of his age, Nile is more willing to plunge in and sort a matter for herself, which has saved Cattail from the disgrace of hesitation more than once. They make an exciting team, never easy to predict, and brimming with boundless energy that few can match. Their vibrancy is infectious, and possibly more powerful than magic could ever be; it makes them beloved by their people rather than feared, and no ruler could ask for more.

Except maybe a new lab for transmutation experiments. Nile hasn't told Cattail yet, but the last one suffered extensive damage after a successful test. It was exciting, she swears on it, but the lab isn't salvageable. At least it was done in the name of magic.
