Celaeno learned from her father at a young age that enchantments come in all different types. Some dragons, it seems, think they have no ability to attach magic to objects at all, when really their only problem is that they haven't found out yet exactly what kind of objects they can enchant, and with what kind of effects.

As she grew up she would often try to tell others about this, but they almost never took her seriously unless one of her parents were there to talk over her. Tired old warriors, science-minded alchemists, bookish scribes with their heads full of memorized numbers and words- so many dragons just didn't want to listen to this frail looking young girl with candle wax caught in her mane fur telling them that they had gone their whole lives somehow unaware of their own magic potential. She irritated and even accidentally offended more people than she helped.

One afternoon, as she helped her father organize his candle making supplies, she found herself admiring how professional one of his wax seal imprint signets looked. While holding the delicate seal in her hands Celaeno came to a realization that hit her like the shock of tripping and falling into an icy stream- this was the trick to it. Presentation.

She rushed to catch her bent and warped reflection in the side of a metal measuring scoop and took a fresh look at herself in a way she had never bothered before, trying to imagine how she might look to a stranger. Young, flustered, bright eyed but with messy hair and ruffled feathers, and usually breathlessly gushing nearly unbelievable information to people she had hardly met. Was this why nobody would listen to her?

The thought made her bristle with anger. What was everyone's problem? Here she was trying to share something wonderful with people, and they would really shut her down for such a shallow reason?

She fell into quiet thought for days, stewing in frustration over what to do. In the end she decided that, as much as she hated the idea of having to put up a front, it would be worth it. Nothing else in the world gave her the sense of joy and satisfaction that came over her whenever she helped a dragon find their potential. Discovering a new type of magic, seeing someone's eyes light up when they felt their own abilities 'click' into place- that was worth almost anything, including the discomfort of wearing stupidly fancy clothing and putting on airs as though she had something mysterious to hide all the time.

The fact that this plan worked perfectly is something of a bittersweet blessing to her. Business is booming and Celaeno is well on her way to becoming well known all across Sornieth as a teacher who can help any student who will give her the time they need and the respect she deserves, but she can only let her guard down and drop the cold, professional persona with its fine clothing and regal bearing when she can be absolutely sure that nobody besides her traveling companion (and eventual mate), Duena, is there to witness it.
