Commander Selwyn is the leading officer and knight of the famed Kingsguard of House Selmont. The guard is comprised of five sworn knights who had pledged their lives to protecting and serving their lord. Should a member of the Kingsguard fall in the protection of their lord, the lord shall appoint a new knight to serve him, with the remaining Kingsguard serving as council.

Selwyn's house is vassal to House Selmont, always having been in service to the Selmonts. As a hatchling Selwyn was mistreated and neglected while his brother received much more of his parent's love. As such, Selwyn carries a deep grudge against his brother for it. Though Selwyn's family had traditionally been forgers and metallurgists, Selwyn carried on to become a honorable and famed knight.

Selwyn began his life squiring for a knight of the Kingsguard; ser Wymus the White, famously known for both his legendary talent with a sword, and his set of alabaster armor, crafted by ser Wymus himself as a smith. Selwyn served Wymus well, keeping his sword sharp, his armor clean and his food warm. In the meantime, ser Wymus trained his squire as a knight. Though nowhere near the skill of an actual knight, much less a member of the Kingsguard, nobody could deny that Selwyn had an affinity with the sword.

For years Selwyn trained under the tutelage of various knights, ser Wymus most of all. Selwyn's skill grew and grew, catching the attention of even other members of the Kingsguard. Selwyn's brother crafted him a beautiful sword, said to be made of "the rarest metals".


During the battle of Precipice Point between Houses Valliard and Selmont, ser Wymus was killed defending Lord Desmos, thus leaving a void within the Kingsguard. Selwyn was appointed as a temporary member of the Kingsguard, meant to serve while House Selmont scoured the North in search of a fitting candidate. Though hundreds of knights volunteered their strength, Selwyn was by far stronger and more skilled than any knight who tried. Over time, Selwyn became a respected and highly honored member of the Kingsguard.

As time passed, Selwyn continued to display his qualities as a leader and as a warrior both on and off the battlefield. Thoroughly impressed, the other four members of the Kingsguard nominated for ser Selwyn to become their new commander, replacing Commander Willard who would step down. Though hesitant, ser Selwyn graciously accepted and hence forth was known as Commander Selwyn of the Kingsguard. Selwyn was somewhat of a hero amongst the smallpeople of House Selmont, having gone from being one of them to becoming one of the most powerful knights in the realm. As such, Selwyn has been named the "Rising Star", both from his rise in skill and fame, as well as rumors that his sword was crafted from a star.
