Biography

Named for her almost translucent iridescence as a newly adopted hatchling. She's another beautiful girl ;v; Everyone thinks she looks ethereal and really creepy o.o
PAIRING LORE:
Despite having had two mates before, Opalescence has always felt unfulfilled in love. She'd never imagined she'd have kids, let alone two clutches! Yet, after the babies went on to pursue bigger and better things in other lairs, Opie took a moment to evaluate her situation, toying with her Winter Wind to help her keep calm. It had always been there for her after all, ever since she was born. She could talk to it and wield it like an elemental being, yet she was still just a dragon.

Nevertheless, she embraced the cold with several thoughts running through her head. Was she ready to commit to one mate? Would the dragon she chose be ok with her having had hatchlings before? Did she even WANT more hatchlings?

She'd been in the Lair of Many References for a while, even becoming the clan's Ice Rep due to her connection with the Winter Wind, before Nostradamus showed up. She thought in the beginning that he was such a reserved little thing. He must've come from a colder part of the Tidelord's realm judging by his dress. Though, she surmised, perhaps he was an ex-traveler instead? He had blue eyes like hers though, and they were kind and full of mysteries underneath that head cover.

She watched him for a little bit, trying to discern his character, although she did garner flack from some of her colleagues. It was Felicity, of course, who introduced Opie properly to him. Such a social butterfly that one...in more ways than conversation.

They hit it off quite well, both as shy as the other at the start. They became fast friends and slowly built up their relationship. Nos didn't seem to mind that Opie had kids. He'd come from a big family himself and not all of those were necessarily full-blooded relations. The pair of them plan on visiting some of Opie's older hatchlings at some point, perhaps after they've settled down and had a few of their own clutches. Now Opalescence is happier with her lot in life, and she’s responsible for the Christmas festivities in TLoMR.

That being said, she did have a little rendezvous with a dragon in another lair once. Call it a Glitch in the Matrix if you will, but Nostradamus insisted she go. It was for the good of the world after all, whatever that means. Who knows, perhaps something came of it?

DPyRZzQ.jpg?1.jpg Opalescence is a type of dichroism seen in highly dispersed systems with little opacity. The material appears yellowish-red in transmitted light and blue in the scattered light perpendicular to the transmitted light. The phenomenon is named after the appearance of opals and is an example of the Tyndall effect.

There are different degrees of opalescent behaviour. One can still see through a slightly opalescent phase. The larger the particles are, the stronger the scattering arising from them and the cloudier the particular phase will look. At a certain concentration the scattering is so strong that all light passing through is scattered, so that it is no longer transparent.

Examples are the blue sky in the daytime and the yellowish-red sky at sunset. Another example can be made by adding a few droplets of milk to a glass of water. The liquid appears bluish. However, if one looks through the glass at a light source, it becomes yellowish-red. Opalescence is an effect exploited in lustreware pottery.
