Biography
Gilinel
gihl-ih-nehl Excitable | Inventor of the Toxic Wastes | Scavenger
Backstory Gilinel was born in the deepest depths of the Leviathan Trench to two dragons who did not particularly care for one another. It was very much a case of eggs being fertilized by a willing participant, rather than anything intimate or loving. Both parents also took little interest in Gil or her sister once they could maneuver through the waters on their own. From an early age, young Gil was very inventive; while her sister was learning how to swim, Gil was fashioning paddles and fins out of sea plants to increase her speed. When it came to hunting for food, her sister prowled after water-borne insects while Gil fashioned traps out of sea sponges and bubble vents (don't even ask). Her sister learned to survive as any dragon would; Gil learned to survive as an inventor. The natural assumption for anyone who knew her was that when she left her home clan, she would pursue a life in the Shifting Expanse, among her like-minded peers. When the time came, however... Gil was at a loss. She did not want to join a Lightning clan. Too strict, too rigid, too bossy, she said. And perhaps, most tellingly: "I'm a Water dragon! You know what happens when water touches electricity? I'd be fried!" No one has bothered to argue her logic. So when her sister swam the ocean towards the Starfall Isles to convene with her Fae roots, Gil followed, hoping to find her destiny along the way. It wasn't an easy journey for the sisters, as they had grown farther and farther apart as they aged and Gil found herself at odds with her sibling more often than not. The last good moment they had together was emerging onto land with one another for the first time and taking in the sights. One more fight later, and the two parted at the Plague/Arcane border, likely to never meet again. It was by chance that Gil found the Toxic Wastes. In her loneliness and frustration she would find herself wandering the Scarred Wasteland, defenseless and upset and without the tools to make anything that would calm her nerves. In an effort to have something new to focus on, she worked on flying, and did a pretty good job - until she crash landed right into the entrance of the Wastes. Before the clan could even fully assess the dragon that had fallen into their midst, Gil was flitting about the lair in a frenzy, commenting on all the lights in the main chamber that originated from different flights. Then she was going from dragon to dragon, taking note of their garb and becoming incredibly excited upon finding Kosinnia, who had wandered out to see what all the commotion was. Her gushing over Kosinnia's gauntlet (which she refused to touch because of its electric charges, but loved nonetheless) quickly told her the sort of dragon Gil was. Hoping to calm her before she found Icarus and lost her little mind, Kosinnia was quick to take the tiny Fae under her wing and offer to help her enter the world of technology. She was quite surprised to learn that Gil was already quite the inventor... and quite alarmed to hear her ideas of "ground-breaking" inventions. Thus began the tradition of "Gil, no". The Toxic Wastes was happy to accept the new, eccentric dragon, so long as Kosinnia kept a close eye on her and kept her from burning anything down. (She insists that, as a Water dragon, she would do no such thing, but everyone has come to know better.) Gil made fast friends with the other creators of the clan and even collaborated on a few things, helping Tox with brews, Daisus with jewelry, Skaldi with apparel, Kosinnia with inventions, and even attempted a few times to invent alongside Icarus. He shoved her out of his lair and blocked the entrance every time, but at least she tried. Quirky, creative, and maybe a little bit crazy, Gil is a beloved member of the Toxic Wastes. |
