Biography

Named after a Snow Nymph in Greek/Roman mythology, alternative spelling Chione :3 Mate to Khonsu.

Ever since she was a wee noodle, Khione has been fascinated by snow. Her first memory was seeing the whirls of snowflakes settle against the edge of the cave in which her mother birthed her. How they danced, entrancing the little spiral, coaxing her out into the world. She was given the name Khione because her patterning reminded her mother of the Snow Goddess, and she was sent out into the wider world in search of the soft, white embrace of the cold.

For days, she would play out in the icy abysses of the Southern Icefield, watching the wildlife struggle for survival. She was a tough little thing, easily blending in with the tundra should other dragons or beastclans hunt her for food. She would have to bury under the snow though, should the black parts of her poison stand out too much.

One day, a piece of ice she was playing on broke, causing her to sail far, far away from her home. She beached in the Windswept Plateau, frightened by the change of scenery. There were no more snowy caps or fluffy white drifts, and her camouflage was useless. She was found by a friendly spiral, who took her in and taught her, eventually, how to fly. This helped her grow strong, and aided in her developing a speedy flight pattern.

She grew then, a little bigger anyways, and asked the kindly spiral which way the Southern Icefield was. She was pointed in a direction, and set out. Unfortunately, the many winds of the Windswept Plateau disoriented her despite her training, and she ended up in the Tangled Wood.

The dragons of the Tangled Wood were not as friendly as those in the Windswept Plateau. They did not offer her solace, nor direction, often stealing her food from her. That is, of course, when she met Khonsu.

Khonsu was tough on her at first, goading her, bullying her almost since he was embarrassed to like a spiral so...nice. He taught her how to be tough, and eventually the two of them fell in love after Khonsu broke off from his gang following a nasty dispute over dominance. He swore it was her determined hardiness that won him over, but she thought it was because he liked her butt.

They ended up journeying to the Viridian Labyrinth after getting tangled up in the Auction House. Coming to the Lair of Many References, both Khonsu and Khione decided to start a family, so that some part of Khione could still return to the land she once called home. Khonsu knows how deeply Khione misses the snow, so every so often he takes her out to ice skate. They're saving their strength for the journey back to the Southern Icefield, so that, perhaps, Khione could play once more in real snow, and see her family again.

Although Opalescence beat her in the running for Ice Representative, Khione bears no ill will for the pearlcatcher. She feels like being a representative of her element would only enhance her homesickness.

Khione (from χιών - chiōn, "snow") was the child of Boreas the North wind and Winter and his wife Oreithyia. Khione is often associated with Oreithyia ("Mountain Gale") and another Khione.

She was depicted as either a minor goddess or snow nymph whose realm belonged to snow. She was loved by Poseidon and had with him a son Eumolpus. In fear of her father's wrath, she cast the child into the sea, but Poseidon saved him.

Different myths exist surrounding Khione. One of them portrays her as a woman, so vain on account of her beauty, that she claimed that she could rival Artemis. Artemis, furious at the accusation, took an arrow and killed her. She was also said to have a relationship with her future murderer's twin and fellow gods, Apollo and Hermes.

Since she was very beautiful, she had countless suitors, including the two gods. Apollo waited for nightfall and then approached her in the guise of an old woman. Hermes put her to sleep and ***** her. She became pregnant with twins, one Autolykus the son of Hermes, and the other Philammon, the son of Apollo.
