Unable to sway the Clan, Kagoron revealed their position to an aggressive clan along the route to the Labyrinth, hoping an attack would prove a sufficient sign to persuade Tuolos to remain in the Wood. The attack quickly fell out of control, completely destroying the far less military Dusk Clan, ending in Kagoron's ultimate death.

The survivors of the attack arrived in the Labyrinth weakened and disheartened, Tuolos and Mika among them. They established a new territory in the alien world of the Gladeveins, struggling heavily with so few members left. Lachtan retreated into her role as druid, feeling herself responsible for the Clan's destruction. Her abdication left Tuolos searching for a new adviser, grieving Kagoron and struggling to run the Clan alone in new terrain.

Cavern hatched alongside her sister, Skiye, to a wandering mother that abandoned the hatchlings to the Clan. From an early age she exceeded her peers in skill, Tuolos drawn to her endearing nature and excitement for learning. He appointed her as his apprentice, forgetting his grief by occupying himself with her training, neglecting his duties as Clan Leader and leaving Mika to pick up his slack. His constant attention entitled Cavern to act from her own initiative, often taking leadership roles in his stead, coming horn to claw with Mika many times.
After her sister's death in the Sunbeam Ruins, Cavern became angry and reckless, occasionally becoming frustrated with her mentor's peaceful ideals. After learning of Kagoron's death and the attack that had left the Dusk Clan in its ruined and weakened state, she became convinced that the clan's strength would be found in more warlike means. Oblivious to her nature, Tuolos refused to hear a bad word about his apprentice, allowing her cruelty and aggression to run rampant in the clan. ZyVQpFq.png
8Hj8zGr.png The torture and murder of an enemy scout finally drew Tuolos' attention, Clan pressure forcing him to convict Cavern. She was demoted as his apprentice, her duties and power repealed, her territory freedoms removed. Tuolos sank into a deep depression, the clan suffering from its continued lack of leadership. Still caring for him, Cavern blamed the decline of her mentor on the Clan for forcing him to punish her, deciding their only route of redemption was to purge the Clan and begin again.
She attacked the clan with a band of mercenaries, attempting a nighttime slaughter to avoid harming her mentor. The plan was destroyed by the sentinel Cernnunos, who raised the alarm, the attack escalating to a fight. Tuolos confronted Cavern directly, distraught at her betrayal, refusing to accept her explanation. Taken by surprise at his confrontation, and frustrated by his confusion, she struck him down in the fight.

Horrified by the murder of her mentor, whom she had been trying to assist, Cavern blamed the gods for Tuolos' refusal to listen to reason, turning her anger on the Gladekeeper. With the Dusk Clan razed to the ground, she set her sights on the Tangled Wood.
