Biography

pUajRie.gif Gabriel
Matriarch and Warrior
Practical| Fierce | Compelling

Gabriel was hatched in a clutch of three, born to Snowseeker, her father; and Rose, her mother. The clan she comes from is small, more like a gathering of dragons rather than anything resembling a family. Shortly after her Right of Passage, Gabriel met the Silents, a pair of pearlcatchers that had been tormented by the Ashscale Ophiotaurus. By killing the Ophiotaurus, she was given the favor of the Icewarden, this favor from the deity granted her permission to form a new clan. She never returned to her family after her quest. She had seen the darkness around her clan's hearts. Along with the Silents, she eventually found herself in the land of the Shadow flight. Now, she trains with Serpae and Cardinal, learning all she can in the art of battle, and preparing for the role of leading a clan.

Gabriel’s Story – Rite of Passage

“Are you ready for your rite of passage, Gabriel?”

The Wildclaw tilted her head up to look at the Clan’s leader – a male Imperial, who sat on the gathering stone with his tail curled around his paws. His eyes reflected hope for Gabriel. She was a promising young warrior, with goodness in her heart. She was physically ready for her assessment, but emotional readiness was an entirely different beast.

Gabriel lifted her head a bit higher and nodded at her leader. “Yes, I am. I am ready to serve you.” She did a small bow to show her submission.

The leader’s tail tip twitched. “Alright. Here is your assessment: you must hunt down and kill an Ashscale Ophiotaurus, using nothing but your wit, teeth, and claws. No weapons will be allowed, and no navigational devices will be allowed either. You also may not have any help, requested or otherwise. If you fail, you will not be allowed back into the Clan.” Gabriel swallowed heavily at that, but kept her gaze steady. “If you succeed, however, you will have the blessing of the Icewarden to create your own Clan. Do you understand these instructions?”

Gabriel nodded strongly. “I understand.”

“Do you accept these instructions?”

“I do.”

“Then go, brave warrior,” the leader instructed, pointing his muzzle in the direction of the entrance to the camp. “We will pray for your swift, and victorious, return.”

Gabriel nodded, before turning and unsheathing her sword from her side. She threw it to the ground, a small cloud of dust appearing from around it. She left her sword there, in the sand, before taking off in a run, leaving her Clan behind her as she went.

---

She traveled for a long time. Gabriel was not sure exactly how long she was traveling, but she ran so far and for so long that her feet became cracked and began to bleed. Once she realized she was trailing bloody paw prints, she stopped to wrap her feet, but she was not stopped for long. She continued on her way after only a few moments to rest her sore feet.

There were certainly beastclans about, but Gabriel could see no sign of the creature she was hunting. While she did have to fight off a few centaurs, try as she might, she could not find an Ashscale. There was neither sight nor sound of such a creature.

That was, until she finally ventured a bit deeper into the fiery territory of Fire, and closer to the active volcanoes. That was where she found them – a whole nest of them in fact, and Gabriel quickly darted behind a rock to stay out of their line of sight and scent.

They slithered about their territory, tongues flicking in and out as they went about their business. Eventually, one of them separated from the rest of the group and went off on its own way, and that was the one Gabriel decided to pursue.

Her feet made little noise on the ashy, rocky ground, and her eyes stayed fixed on her target. Finally, they got far enough away from the others, and Gabriel decided it was time to attack.

Giving a loud screech, she jumped from behind a rock and gripped the Ashscale with her claws, the deadly hooked one on her biggest toe gleaming threateningly in the light of the volcanoes. The Ashscale hissed in response and started to buck, its long, reptilian body twisting and turning as it tried to get Gabriel off of its back.

But Gabriel dug in hard, drawing blood with her sharp claws. She leaned down and grabbed the Ashscale around the neck with her strong jaws, serrated teeth ripping and tearing at the flesh. It went down, and Gabriel jumped off, only to re-situate herself in a better position to grab onto the Ashscale. It was still thrashing about, but one final bite from Gabriel’s strong jaws ended its struggle.

Once she was sure the Ashscale was dead, Gabriel stepped back, panting heavily and wiping at the blood on her jaws. Her claws shimmered with a coat of the Ashscale’s dark blood, and a few scales were stuck on her claws and paws.

For a long while, she stood there, eyes glazed a bit as she looked at the dead body. Then, from behind a few burnt bushes, two figures appeared. They were both Pearlcatchers – one male, one female – and were strangely silent. Though one, the male, approached her, he did not speak a word, instead simply extending a paw in her direction.

“Who are you?” Gabriel asked immediately, not once dropping her guard. The two Pearlcatchers looked at each other, and then blinked at her slowly. “Do you two not have names?” The male shook his head no, then scratched something into the dirt.

Gabriel stepped closer to look at the message, which read, We are the Silents. She tilted her head curiously.

“I have never heard of the Silents. Though, I suppose, your name reflects your natures?” Gabriel asked. The two dragons nodded in response. “Interesting. Why are you here? Did you see me kill the Ashscale?” Another nod yes.

Gabriel paused to think. “Were they causing you trouble?” They nodded yes again. “So I suppose you’re here to thank me?”

The male paused to scratch another message into the dirt, covering his previous one to make way to the new one. We are here to ask you to join us. Your physical prowess is quite incredible.

Gabriel sucked in a breath. Join them? Did she dare, even while she already had a Clan to return to? She thought of the other dragons in her Clan, of the way they looked at each other, at the darkness she could sense in their hearts. Corruption loomed in the Clan, and she did not want to be there when it reared its ugly head. And she had killed the Ashscale, which meant she had the blessing of the Icewarden to form her own Clan.

She dipped her head, before looking up and fixing the dragons with a steely gaze.

“Yes. I will join you.”
