❁ STORY

Tough in a fight, determined and ferocious when it comes to protecting those he cares about, he's somewhat cavalier about his own safety. Piper is always telling him he needs to wear more armour so he doesn’t die when he runs headlong into a dragon more headstrong than himself. He sighs dramatically and does as she asks… but it just itches and it impedes his movement and is altogether very uncomfortable. He’ll suffer through it though. For her.

He rarely thinks before leaping into action and handles most things with a smile and a laugh (maybe a sarcastic comment for good measure). It's earned him a devil-may-care reputation and his heart of gold makes him the best friend anyone could ask for. He has a strong moral compass and defends what he perceives as good and right without hesitation. His advocacy for peace makes him an excellent emissary and he often accompanies the more pacifistic Crossfire and Feldspar when they go on diplomatic missions. He is occasionally also invited to attend Assembly meetings, not to participate, but to listen. His attention to political detail and willingness to discuss minutiae with Kieri and Aora means he's valuable for his advice as much as for his level-headed mediation skills. Something that is, admittedly, a little contradictory when paired with his typically blase attitude about... well, everything. None of this, of course, means he won't go on a pirating adventure with Kairos should he be invited. It just means that he'll apologise to those he steals from so efficiently. Right before Jaelyr wipes their minds and the only evidence it happened lies in his conscience. (Pirating is maybe not for him, but the oceanic adventures are so wonderful.)

Ravelin is defined by his physical prowess in a fight, but unlike Piper, also displays quite the silver tongue and is an expert when it comes to talking himself out of sticky situations. In fact, his preference for negotiating those tense situations with his words rather than claws is enough to get Piper rolling her eyes and launching a pre-emptive strike. She has no patience at all. Serious circumstances are his least favourite thing in the world and Ravelin is quick with a joke to diffuse a situation, often resorting to teasing on pretty much any occasion he can manage. Piper thinks his whimsy will get him killed, but he's perfectly fine with that if it keeps her safe. He's somewhat of a romantic and will put aside all detachment and flippancy to make Piper happy. She worries about him just as much as he does about her, she's just worse at letting him know.

ORIGIN / A clan bound to the river ways that spill out of the Gladeveins and into the strait, they were a clan who claimed dominion over the Labyrinth's waters. Ravelin’s kin are proud of their old bloodlines and the magic that flows through them so powerfully it seems as if they produce a shimmering aura like sunlight on running water. It was this bond with the waters that prompted some of them to venture south, emissaries to the Sea; Ravelin went with, warrior and peaceful ambassador both. They were beset over the Tangled Woods and he never did quite make it. There are others like him in the Reliquary, however, and while not where he intended to be, it’s the next best thing.

Fact / Ravelin was actually raised with the assumption he'd become a scholar or diplomat which is probably why he's so fond of words ~~so fond of talking, rather~~. He was told repeatedly when he was younger that he'd never make a good warrior, too small, too weak, too squishy. He should leave that to larger dragons than he. Instead he practiced for years to become a great warrior. And while 'great' may not be the best word to describe his combat abilities, he's refused to quit, becoming a masterful and agile asset. His size has never once been a hindrance to him, but rather a boon. No one seems to expect a tiny skydancer to pack much of a punch. Not when there are larger dragons around. He likes surprising folks.

Likes / Rain, walking on the beach, flowers and seedpods, bees. He also derives a weird amount of satisfaction from mock fights with Daeddrin. Something about the showy nature of sparring with the ridgeback makes him smile.

Dislikes / Wearing armour, rodents, actually having to fight. Weirdly, Ravelin is very good in a tussle but as a rule prefers to talk his way out rather than actually get violent.

Interests / Exploring, there are some beautiful secret places between the trees and he loves finding them. They feel special. While he's officially a hunter/warrior for the Reliquary, Ravelin is very interested in political developments and in the finer points of mediation. He often acts as an assistant for Denara in sorting out disputes in the lair. He and Aora generally work together quite a bit. He likes that she's more open about discussing socio-economic and political events with him too. Daeddrin doesn't.
