It is known that Sandsharks start fighting among their siblings as soon as they hatch from their eggs. Machado wasn't the strongest in his pack, and was left behind by his siblings once they started growing up. A sandshark who isn't strong enough to defend itself is as good as meat and when they left Machado behing they strongly believed he was done for.

But the deserts of Dragonhome proved to be resourceful enough for Machado to endure and survive on his own. He scavenged and fought until he arrived at an ancient and abandoned tomb, where he made his first home. The tomb would sink into the shifting sands of Dragonhome and emerge once again during nighttime. Within it, Machado learned to move like shadows, lying out of sight of all the tomb raiders who were unlucky enough to break into his home.

Once old enough, he thought for a long while about returning to his pack and eat the flesh out of his siblings face's but the tomb surrounding him fascinated and entertained him more than the wish for revenge. The inscriptions, reliefs and statues fascinated him and it didn't take very long for him to learn it's long lost language.
