The wind was warm the day they were born. Hot and hearty as it blew into the Respite from the north; the welcome and longed-for touch of a loved one as they return from a long voyage at sea. Winter was more than half done, though this was the first of the warm northerlies to make it this far south. The Respite and the Hold both were in a state of movement, an eagerness that grew in urgency with every lengthening day.

Zymen and Corsa had planned this clutch carefully, not wanting to raise fledglings in the unforgiving winter of the south, when hunting was scarce and food yet scarcer. Barbary, having just returned from a scouting mission, arrived just as the eggs started to move in their nest. She nuzzled each of her mates and retreated from the den, knowing that her part in the lives of these young ones would come later.

Three sons were born, mewling and blinking in the warm light of the fires set by their parents. So tiny now, and yet Corsa beamed with pride as she inspected their tiny forms. "They will grow into fine pirates," she'd murmured, and Zymen found he quite agreed.

In a clan built of crews and bonds of family that run deeper than blood, Otto was strangely content to run alone. He was quick and quiet in contrast to his boisterous brothers, the young imperial making a game of hiding in unexpected places aboard the many ships of Clan Windfall.

As he grew, his games were honed into purpose, and he would travel far from the Southern Icefield, seeking intelligence for hunts and prizes ripe for the taking. Occasionally he found other work as well - a quiet assassination here, the strategic removal of items there. All in all, he made himself quite the successful living from these clandestine activities, and made himself a valuable asset to not only the crews but the Windfall Trading Company as well.

In the end, nobody was surprised when his work called him away from Clan Windfall; his restless heart chasing leads until he finally found a place he truly called home.

Notes: "Otto" refers to the Ottoman Empire.
