The wind was warm the day they were born. Hot and hearty as it blew into the Respite from the north; the welcome and longed-for touch of a loved one as they return from a long voyage at sea. Winter was more than half done, though this was the first of the warm northerlies to make it this far south. The Respite and the Hold both were in a state of movement, an eagerness that grew in urgency with every lengthening day.

Zymen and Corsa had planned this clutch carefully, not wanting to raise fledglings in the unforgiving winter of the south, when hunting was scarce and food yet scarcer. Barbary, having just returned from a scouting mission, arrived just as the eggs started to move in their nest. She nuzzled each of her mates and retreated from the den, knowing that her part in the lives of these young ones would come later.

Three sons were born, mewling and blinking in the warm light of the fires set by their parents. So tiny now, and yet Corsa beamed with pride as she inspected their tiny forms. "They will grow into fine pirates," she'd murmured, and Zymen found he quite agreed.

From the moment of his birth, Razzia was beautiful. His gaudy colours announce him long before he joins any conversation, and the praise for his looks soon set the seeds of pride in his heart to blooming.

It did not take him long to tire of the chain of command that so comforted his eldest brother, and Razz was simply not built for the quiet, secret work that stirred the blood of Otto, his other brother. No, Razzia was more like his father than either of them, filled with a desperate yearning to write his name upon the very fabric of the world. He burns to lead, to captain a crew bold and terrible, to be known and feared in every port. And of course, he longs for admiration, adulation, love of the mental and physical kind.

He earned a reputation as an incorrigible rake almost as quickly as he did for his courage and beauty - drawn to every and any beautiful dragon it seemed his eyes could find. He loved them all, in his way, and there seemed no limit to his hunger for love, though his heart was ever flighty and changeable as the seas. He was not the marrying type, nor one for fidelity, often holding several flames at once.

If one looks closely, they'd see that these trysts were not entirely without design - each time he learned a skill. The first was a captain, who taught Razz how to lead a crew before the dazzling youth left him for a trade Queen and broke his heart. The merchant was wiser to dragons like him, however; she put him out the moment she learned of the captain Razzia had left heartbroken in his wake. And so his list of lovers stretches ever on.

There is no malice in it, though - he simply thought that they all knew his first love would always be glory.

It was the search for this that finally called him away from the Clan of his birth, and across the sea to the place he would finally call his own.

Notes: "Razzia" is for the word Razzias, an Anglicisation of the Arabic word "Ghazi," originally meaning an individual who participates in raiding. It also references "razzamatazz," meaning noisy, showy, exciting, intended to attract and impress.
