--Protector of The World's Most Beautiful Lullaby--
--He Who Travels Beyond Death--

Loneliness. A deep, sinking pang that rocked him to the core of his being. That is Shesh's earliest memory. Alone, afraid, and unsure of who he was or what to do. Why did he exist? Where had he come from? Questions he was unaware to ask, or that he should have known the answers to. He had been fortunate to be taken in by Myura's clan- given a home, an education, a family. And then he had found Love. A hatchling, just like himself, alone, afraid, in a strange land that she knew nothing about. He defended her from Myura's wrath and prejudice, opening her eyes to how one-sided they were.

Together, they grew up in this clan, softening hearts and old ways with their refreshing wonder and acceptance. But as with all dragons, growing up meant more responsibilities. They took on the mantles of their heritages. In Love's case, she prepared for when she would follow in her mother's footsteps- spreading unconditional love across Sornieth. But Shesh did not know his past before Myura and her clan had found him. So he was unprepared for when his Charge took center stage in his life. It was so sudden, so unexpected. One night, he heard Love humming a gentle tune under her breath. Instantly intrigued, he had her sing it louder; explain it. "It was the lullaby that my mother used to sing to us before she continued on her journey to spread love across Sornieth. I did not want to forget her or her love, so I decided to sing it every single night." His smile had been just as bright and happy as her own was gentle and affectionate. Because something had clicked deep within his being- within his very soul. This song- it was the most beautiful thing in the entire world. And thus he found his charge.

A charge needs protection, but how to protect a song? While Love drifted off to sleep, Shush had continued to hum the tune to himself, considering. Before the first rays of the sun touched upon the ruins, he was gone- decided that he must share this melody with the world. For that was how to protect it- keep the tune alive, and in the minds of any who would hear it. Let it be shared, and not become forgotten by the passage of time.

He traveled to several small clans, teaching the lullaby to any who would listen. He had a lovely discussion with a young pearlcatcher musician while at another lair in the Sunbeam Ruins. But it was when he decided to leave the safety of the Lightweaver's domain that he was led astray.

Within the Plaguebringer's domain, the world was twisted and strange. He had hoped his song could bring some comfort and light into this sickly landscape, but his hopeful ideal only brought sorrow. As he lay on the ground, the last he saw of Plague lands were the heaving jaws and pitch black eyes of a shade-stricken mirror.

He woke up in a calm, quiet garden. He blinked again, thinking to clear the mirage from before him, but no such transformation occured. The gently swaying trees and twilight-kissed flowers remained right where they were. He stood up, his frills scraping on the smooth cobblestone path beneath him. Slowly, he trotted between the manicured flowerbeds until a mirror approached him from within a hedge. He explained that Shesh was in a place called the Tangledwood Tenements- a sort of waypoint for those who had lost their way or had unfinished business elsewhere. He led the guardian up to the front steps of a beautiful antiquated mansion, where he was greeted by a small but friendly staff. Here he stayed for a short while, wiling away the hours and thinking of his home back with Myura and Love. He wondered what they could possibly be doing now. He missed them terribly....

His head shot up, straining to hear something at the edge of his consciousness. Gingerly, he padded over to a door that he hadn't noticed previously. It was just slightly ajar, and he nosed it open, feeling warmth and sunlight on the other side. The more the opening widened, the louder the sound became. Straining towards it, he finally stepped close enough to put his entire head and shoulders through the doorway, and with a sudden recognition, he leapt through.

The lullaby- Love's lullaby; his lullaby. It was warm, and comforting, and a promise of growth and safety. As his eyes ajusted to the harsh sunlight, he became more aware of the area around him. He was once more out in the Plague lands- though this time, he was far from the area where shade-touched dragons roamed. Glancing about eagerly, his view settled on a small conglomeration of tents, where milling about where a number of tundras. He waded into their midst, scanning until- Hah! - he found the source of the lullaby. He respectfully approached the colorful tundra, who himself was caring for a number of small hatchlings, happily humming the tune under his breath as he tucked them in for a midday nap. Once the young ones were settled down, Shesh struck up a conversation with the tundra, interested in where he had heard the lullaby.

He was quickly rewarded with a straightforward and satisfying answer- this dragon was Love's father! Happily surprised, they spent the next few days discussing events and old history. Shesh learned of this clan's hardships, and how even in the worst of times, this lullaby could soothe hatchlings and adults alike. Thrilled to see first hand how his song could help others, Shesh decided it was time to follow his heart once more- and his heart was telling him that for now it was time to head home. Home to Myura. To Love. To the cozy lair in the Sunbeam Ruins.

And so he went, head held high, and a song on the wind to carry him.
