Biography

Serendir
______________________________________________________________________________

There is nothing too unusual about the way Serendir grew up—he was born to a pretty average family in the Sunbeam Ruins, in a pretty average part of the region, with a pretty average life and a pretty average upbringing. It wasn’t until he was older, however, when he found himself struck by tragedy after tragedy; threats from Emperors causing his entire family to flee their home and lose almost everything, being abandoned by his closest friends, being robbed by odd criminals and losing what little he had left for himself, the list goes on. And without too much of a care in the world left, Serendir eventually got in contact with some local criminals and proved his physical prowess until he could be granted the greatest and most prosperous title a criminal could hope for—an assassin.

As an assassin, Serendir traveled all across Sornieth taking any job his clients asked for. His natural stealth and strength was enough help with his profession as is, but his outstanding skill with his bow-and-arrow only excelled that professionalism. He took out target after target, and there was not a dragon Serendir could ever fall to; that is, until he was assigned to take out a Coatl named Eucalyptus. Upon firing his first arrow, Eucalyptus was the only dragon even to this day he ever came across to not only take the arrow, but survive, and then fire a magical attack back at him that caught him so off guard he fell out of the tree he was sniping in. Him and Eucalyptus would trade attacks back and forth until they mutually surrendered, realizing they had met each other’s matches, and then realizing they were both assassins.

Instead, Serendir apologized for his attack and they decided to become a duo (and Serendir disappeared on the client who asked for Eucalyptus’s demise in the first place). Working as assassins together, he and Eucalyptus were able to enjoy many more years of success after success, acquiring more treasure than they ever had before, and the two of them entered a relationship and later a very not legally recognized marriage over time as well. Serendir is a cold, peculiar character of few words and many mysteries: Eucalyptus is probably the only dragon he ever has been honest and truly comfortable with.

Yet at the end of the day, nothing good lasts forever. Evidence relating to countless dragons’ disappearances and murders began adding up until the two were arrested and given a trial right in the heart of the Sunbeam Ruins. The verdict ruled that Serendir was to be forcibly exalted to the ranks of the Lightweaver, Eucalyptus to the ranks of the Shadowbinder, and neither of them were to leave their new positions nor speak to each other for the rest of their lives. Serendir and Eucalyptus’s time imprisoned where they discussed how to get out of this situation was cut short, however, when they were approached in the dead of night, in secret, by three massive, imposing Gaolers.

These Gaolers were members of the Overseers Order. They had heard about what Serendir and Eucalyptus had done, and their outstanding skill, stealth, and mystique: and they came to them with an offer. The Gaolers proposed that they could bring the two of them to somewhere where they could stay together for the rest of their lives—though, they would never be allowed to leave, and they would have to obey the Gaoler’s orders. It was a significantly better option than what was planned for them now, so they agreed. Serendir, Eucalyptus, and the Gaolers incapacitated the prison guards escaped in the night, where they sailed all the way to the Southern Icefield. A cavern in the Southern Icefield, deep below the ground of one of the Icefields’ most prosperous clans: the clan of Gelida.

The prisons rumored to be under Gelida's land exist. As ordered by the Gaolers, Serendir and Eucalyptus’s new job was to aid in their guarding of the horrorterrors that have been kept secret in these caverns for centuries. Whether the Gaolers truly want to just keep these eldritch beings imprisoned here, or if they are a rebel order that aims to release them one day, remains unknown. They still keep secrets even from those who serve under them, Serendir and Eucalyptus certainly included. And since the two former assassins took the job, living completely within the freezing, lonesome caverns, Serendir and Eucalyptus have simply tried to do their job the best they can, and get as far onto the Gaolers’ good side as possible. They must guard the horrorterrors, withstand rigorous training and teaching from the Gaolers in the cavern, and even study the cosmic beasts.

Serendir sees the horrorterrors with his own eyes, every single day of his life. He once thought he would be prepared for them: he was an assassin for years, after all, he had seen everything and was the one to cause most of those sights in the first place. Yet, seeing such eldritch monstrosities has ruined a part of him he can’t identify. His modern blood simply was not built for such a thing, although he will never admit it. Whether he likes it or not, this existence deep within Sornieth’s core is simply Serendir’s day to day life now, and he most likely will continue this way until the day he dies. And on the outside, all across the continent, in every flight there is, certain curious souls still investigate the total disappearances of Sornieth’s deadliest assassins.
