When the night burns and the day chills, there is something wrong in the world, so they say. Flamecaller’s fires are quelled, and the Shadowbinder’s darkness dispelled. They always say that something must be wrong.
Lothair didn’t think so. Must a Shadow dragon love the dark? Must the wounded never heal? Must a warrior always fight? Not always. Lothair’s family, both immediate and extended, know him as a wisecrack and he’s fine with that, but like the chilling day and burning night, he wasn’t so simple. Not that they needed to know that. No, he was a simple dragon hatched into a small clan with wounds still healing. He was another born into the great progeny of the Night Warriors, and more importantly - born to Laelia. Laelia was an incredibly skilled dragon, a soul brave enough to strike her own path and find her own way to fight, and of course, she was the one he could blame for the witty remarks he made that everyone so complained about. She was also the subject of far more scorn than he thought necessary. His mother took her family’s disapproval with a stride, but it struck a chord with him. Was it so wrong to go against the grain and to put oneself and one’s clan before the Night Warriors? He didn’t think so, but he was biased. She taught him that it wasn’t wrong, after all. So he made a deal with himself, he would kill two birds with one stone. He wanted to know more about the family anyway, so who was to stop him from proving their judgement on his mother wrong? Being none the wiser, his parents agreed to contact other members of the family to see about finding a more traditional clan for him to visit for a time. In the meantime, he asked her to train him in her own way of fighting. It was unarmed combat completely centered on defense. She didn’t throw a single strike, though it wasn’t so when she needed to teach it to others. Blocks, parries, throws, anything and everything to redirect enemies in close combat. His blood pounded through him just to try and keep up. The adrenaline was unlike the more basic training others could receive - gained from ones not from the clan itself, as it were. The residents were another matter. It was a good start, at the very least. ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ Eventually, Lothair found himself in a skewed and damaged clan. While indeed a more traditional clan compared to his birth clan, this clan was in shambles. A new leader had risen above the wreckage, A Water Imperial by the name of Azla. Azla had saved the broken former Arcane clan from a secret inner working cult attack. An attack brought on by a Plague Guardian named Mother and a Plague Pearlcatcher named Merric. She had brought them to the Tidelord and to her mother, Meraki. Lothair admired Azla, and he admired Xena, who was a fellow Shadow dragon. A Guardian. Both were strong, capable leaders. Xena was one of the more seasoned warriors among the clan, alongside the old leaders, Zechalis and Mangle. So it was her, who he wished to train under. When all the introductions and greetings were over, Lothair asked Xena in private, if the elder dragon would train him. Much to Lothair's delight, the old dragon accepted. It was around the same time that Lothair met Elenora. She was an elusive one, scarcely present unless Azla called on her. Xena had personally vouched him to Azla for the Queensglaive as she saw great potential in him. And as it'd be, Elenora was already in the Queensglaive herself. They got on well, once he managed to align his schedules with her and finally talk to her. They got on well enough, in fact, that after a couple months of them knowing each other - Elenora let him in a little 'secret'. She was an Assassin. But not your normal sneaky and silent killer kind of assassin, no. She was rather a cog in a great machine and ideology called the Creed. He was skeptical at first, admittedly. Was this some cult? He was wary of anything sounding similar to a cult, all things considered. He was fiercely loyal to Azla, and any whispers of a cult needed stamping out. But the more he listened to her, the more he felt his worries seem to fade. She was making sense. She didn't sound like a lunatic. And then she told him, "Lothair, you're special. You were born to do great things. You're to be a Night Warrior. But you can also be a part of something more. Something just as important. Only if you wish it. Only if you trust me." ...Of course he trusted her. And as Xena had once pledged for him, so to did Elenora. He joined her Brotherhood. He became an Assassin, under her mentorship. ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ ︶꒷꒦⋆✿⋆꒦꒷︶ He felt strong. He felt capable. He felt wiser than he did before. And he cared for his clan. Oh, he did. He always will. This clan is his home. Forever so. And so much so, he had actually neglected his Night Warrior duties for several years in favor of being a dedicated Queensglaive. Was it shameful? Maybe to most, but no, not in his eyes. It'd been an accident, but not one he regretted. But finally, finally, he joined his mother and his siblings among the ranks of the Night Warriors. He felt pride, sure. But he also felt a sense of.. accomplishment. He'd done both. He'd cared for his clan - and he became a Night Warrior. What more could anyone ask of him? He knew Elenora was proud of him, too. She supported his endeavors one hundred and ten percent. Had she been of an older generation, she may have scolded him for his non-Brotherhood goals as she had been by older Assassins - as he'd been told by her, in jest. But.. no. She whole-heartedly believed him to be an honorable man. And really, that was all he could ask for from her. She was already mentoring him, that was enough too. He was an Assassin. Just like her. And just like her, he wanted to protect dragonkind. He wanted to protect his family. His home. |
