LINDARIL

They say that there's a story - one that starts with "Once Upon A Time". It is beautifully written, with heartbreak on every line.
For it recalls a time when the sun and moon were friends, before the two warred over their light.
It recalls a time of peace and friendship, before all their hard work came to slight.

The story starts with two friends competing to shine.
It ends with a twist - the most tragic of their time.
For as radiant as the sun shone, it was just as brilliant as the moon - and second place was simply something both refused.

And so they began a race, one to light up the sky -
neither knew the carnage in their wake, nor the shadows they left behind.
But the world suffered, the tides and days were turned awry.
And the dragons that tread the earth fell ill, languished, died.
To their deities they cried, praying that the sun and moon be apart - for as much as they respected the two's friendship, they were tearing the world apart.

So the deities bent space to their will, separated the sun from the silvery moon.
They set the sun in the azure sky, and the moon in the night's gloom.
And the sun cried out, every day, to see the friend he loved.
And the moon, though accompanied by the stars, cried out to him, too.

It is said on those days of pining, once awhile the moon would catch up to the sun.
They would come face to face, whisper their greetings, before magic forced them to run.
There is special magic born between them then, one of friendship, of love.
And the dragons this heartfelt blessing bestowed upon were sharp as an eagle, soft as a dove.

Lindaril is no exception, with a voice gentle but strong. Though not born with the strong magic of her ancestors, there is magic in her songs. She can put others to sleep with her voice, heal them with the same. It could hurt as much as it healed, for it was warrior at heart, not a healer, and it fought all that came its way.

Thus they called her the Singer, the Warrior of the Healing Voice. And its legacy is a memory - a memory of friends not separated by choice.

-MythicalViper

As a young Celestial Runner, Lindaril couldn't quite understand why the older dragons were in awe of her songs. Until one day, she was upset at one of the other young dragons in the clan and sang her anger out.

It was a miracle that the young dragon hadn't died from the wounds he suffered. Horrified by the power in her songs, Lindaril stopped singing, choosing to seclude herself in the darkest corners of the Labyrinth. Not even the words and presence of her beloved teacher and foster mother, Astra, could make her reveal herself. In time, the young dragon healed from his wounds and came to seek her out.

He wasn't of any noble lineage. He was just a playmate of hers. They had grown up together and he was the only one that she had confided to. She had a crush on him, though she never spoke of it.

But he spoke, cajoled her from where he was, giving his forgiveness readily and confessing his love for her. She was too ashamed to reply him. He understood that she was not ready to speak to him and promised to return the next day.

He never returned. Even though she waited until the moon rose in the night sky, he never showed up.

She knew that he was gone before Astra even showed up.

"His patrol was ambushed by the Beast clans when they were returning." Astra told her in a low voice.

"When we reached, he was still breathing- just barely. But without a powerful healer, there wasn't anything much we could do." She placed a pair of wing cuffs on the stone between them. "He said to leave this to you. And that he loves you."

Lindaril was devastated. The first love of her life... was gone. "Would he have lived... if I had been there?" She forced out between her sobs.

Astra regarded her solemnly. It was not in her to tell lies.

"Yes."

That night, a song of sorrow rippled out over the tree tops of the Viridian Labyrinth. And this was the start of the Singer's legacy.
