Menodora's name means "gift of the moon", and that is exactly what she is. Here is a quick version of her tale:
The moon, which watches over and protects the clan Moonlight Densetsu, noticed that the clan was in need of more warriors to help gather resources to sustain the now growing number of dragons. Thus, the moon decided to gift a warrior dragon to the clan for such a purpose. However, the moon was unable to just uproot a warrior who was already fully trained and established in protecting their own friends and family, and so the moon asked the famed Night Warriors if it could have a newborn dragon to gift to a clan in need.
This exchange could only take place during the power of a total eclipse, though, during the festival that the Moonlight Densetsu clan would be holding in honor of their princess, whose powers comes from the moon. One dragon in particular, Maelstrom, was due to have a nest hatch on the day of the solar eclipse, and agreed to let the moon take one of his children on the promise that the child would go to a clan that would raise his child with the same love and care he would have received being raised at home with his blood relatives. The moon, knowing the kindess of the clan's princess, made this promise and thus whisked away Menodora to gift her upon her new home.
