Biography

Vessel of Vitality

Victoria was stolen as a hatchling from a clan in the Sunbeam Ruins. During her early life, she was formally trained as a healer and nurse at several academies, both in the Starfall Isle and in the Sunbeam Ruins, as well as being trained in science and medicine by Sovri. During this same period, she was the subject of numerous experiments by Sahko.

She was bound to be the King's Nurse and Assistant and trained for it. Her light magic would mesh well with the king's own powers, and Sahko made alterations to her body and her magic to make her even more suited to her tasks. She became a vessel for healing powers, her belly filled with a reservoir of vital fluids which she could use in her spellwork and healing potions.

Heart

Victoria has always been kind. Love and compassion come easily to her, and she has always been generous with it. She is not so prideful that she cannot seek comfort in others, no matter what her hurt, and she gives comfort just as easily, even and especially when it is not sought.

This kind, loving nature may seem suitable for a healer but it hid a hardiness and resilience much favored by plague dragons. Her work for the king would have quickly worn down a softer dragon, for he was a creature of untold horrors. She worked to undo the most terrible workings of the Scarred Wasteland on dragon and beast alike. It was not a task for the faint of heart.

Loyalty

Victoria was one of the king's most loyal and valuable servants. The very nature of her work meant that he had to trust her completely, and for a long time, he did. This trust became a target. Sahko, who was desperate to learn all he could about the king's powers, began to try and sway Victoria. Others had tried in the past but were all unsuccessful. She was loyal to the king.

Sahko was different. He had the king's favor already, even though Sovri hid much from him, and he knew more about him than most other dragons. It was not hard to suggest things, make careful indirect observations, or ask seemingly innocuous questions to gain a great deal of information. Besides, Victoria had been one of Sahko's subjects, so what did it matter if he wanted to follow up on his research regarding her? Surely that was his right. Over time Sahko convinced her to be more and more open with her about her work for the king.

When the king discovered her unwitting betrayal of his secrets he was incensed and angry. He and Sahko had been long playing this game, but the use of Victoria as a pawn was infuriating. He could not trust her as he thought he could. He knew he could have no such assistant beholden in any way at all to Sahko.

Removal

Sovri called Victoria to his chamber one final time and had her sit before him. He then reached into her head and plucked out all his secrets, so that by the end of his work she knew very little about him. He left her with her mastery of healing magic, and the knowledge that she had worked for him, though she could never again recall any of the details of that work. He thanked her for her service, paid her handsomely, and ended her contract with him. He provided glowing praise and recommendations in writing, to ease her in finding new work wherever it was she would go next.

When she left she did so in a kind of confused daze, aware that she had done something wrong, but unable to pinpoint what it was. Without the knowledge of the king's secrets, she could not remember sharing those secrets. Still, the King had made it very clear that she was dismissed, and he had not been terribly unkind about it. He paid her a considerable severance and with her scholarly contacts, it shouldn't be too much trouble to find a new home.

But that hurt. This place was her home. It had always been her home. She had long traveled the world to places of learning in other realms, but to these fetid stone halls, she had always returned. She couldn't imagine leaving the place, not being able to call it her home. She had not merely been fired from her job, but evicted. She would leave behind many friends and loved ones whom she had come to know here.

Her departure was full of tearful farewells. Otreus, and Putridus, and Susan had been among her best friends, and they set her off with many parting gifts. Her many former mates as well- the ones who were still in the clan- for she was well known and loved, gave her gifts when she departed. Not Sahko, though. He avoided her.

The keenest members of the clan had some idea that Sahko was to blame for her dismissal, and rumors to that effect circulated quickly. Sahko was already not terribly well-liked, and this new development only eroded his favor in the clan even further, making him hated by some of Victoria's friends. This only served for him to be more reliant than ever on the king's and queen's favor to remain in the clan and continue his work, which was well in the king's opinion, and near enough to suitable punishment for the loss of Victoria.
