Biography

IRIDIS

It/he/his/him
An android that longs to be dragon.
Mistral Glove Volt Wiring Black Iron Segment Construction Armor Steelhound Core Chrome Laser Head Titanium Wrench

Iridis is the unfortunate product of Cyscade's skill in mechanics and Nuit's untamed imagination. This android is physically perfect; every joint bends perfectly, every feather is completely realistic, and the eyes glow with just the right amount of life. However, mentally, its state is less than ideal.

It used to be completely draconic in every way: physically, mentally, morally. However, there was...an incident. Iridis was attacked, and it was damaged. Nuit and Cyscade did their best to fix it; they completely dismantled it and inspected every piece, painstakingly correcting their creation. But when they put it back together, though you couldn't tell by looking at it, the poor machine had a small circuitry error that made it impossible for it to really grasp morality.

Nuit and Cyscade were heartbroken. They reviewed their notes and desperately attempted to see what they missed, but they never could. Despite Blister and Sleet's urging to the contrary, they refused to dismantle it. Instead, they have dedicated their time to discovering the flaw and repairing it. In the meantime, they keep a close eye on Iridis and guide it down the right path as best they can.

Thankfully, Nuit programed some basic ethics into the very core of its being.
  • Iridis cannot take the life of another sentient creature (making him useless in the coliseum).
  • Iridis cannot allow a dragon to come to harm via inaction.
  • Iridis cannot disobey a direct order from Nuit, Cyscade, Sleet, or Blister, UNLESS this order contradicts the previous rules.
  • Iridis must protect its own existence in accordance with its own morals.
If this code doesn't work, none of the animatronic works. Nuit was careful to limit her precious creation's abilities according to the Laws of Robotics. She couldn't bear to completely follow them, though. She couldn't bear to completely take away the free will of her creature, her child. She modified them a bit: a tweaked word here, added a clause or two, eliminated a few broad strokes. Still, this was as close to an organic dragon as they could get.
Multi-Lens Magnifier Borer Scrapmetal

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
