The ice had always been a comfort. Even from her fifth day of age, sticking out against the snow like coal, Kittyhawk had found refuge in the least likely of environments; huddled underneath the guidance of the Icewarden. Without her parents, the cold made her strong. It made her hard. And it helped her to endure against all odds - a true child of her element.

As an adult, she draws to her those dragons who have found themselves lost among the frigid dunes. Although a quiet soul, her sheer size and strength commands a sense of subservience to those in her clan without it ever being fought for or discussed.

Her first mate, Deimos, to whom she will always be truly devoted was the only one to ever fully support her. Their children grew strong and left to explore Sornieth for their own improvement, and she feels a warmth of pride whenever they enter her thoughts. The day that Deimos was exalted was both a day of darkness and light, a dichotomy of emotion from which she has never completely recovered.
"Remember always that I love you. Remember always that this was my choice."
Words seared into her mind forever.

She grew colder after that. She grew harder.

When Ieremi came along, full of the wisdom and curiosity of his element, she seemed only to tolerate him. Truth be told, tolerance is all she has ever felt for the dragon who so cruelly resembles Deimos. And for this lack of love, this lack of distraction, she became the finest leader she could have ever hoped to become.
"They do not fear you." Ieremi sneered one cool morning, referring to the dragons of the Flying Legends clan. "How can you hope to lead if they do not fear you?"
Kittyhawk glared fiercely back at her spouse.
"You cannot rule through fear. You cannot even control through fear. The only way to lead is by example, and that is precisely how I intend to lead." Her disgust was palpable. "And for the record, Ieremi, they do not fear you either. Were it not for the children I have borne with your blood, they would tear you apart."

That much was true.

After that, Kittyhawk and her mate spoke very rarely, and bore no more young. Having devoted her life now to the protection and advancement of her clan, she will not breed again.

She is a devoted matriarch, utterly beloved by her clan and a formidable opponent to those who would threaten its safety. From now until her own call to the Icewarden, she will bear this mantel with pride.
