Damocles Damocles: named for "The Sword of Damocles" in which the story describes how with great power and fortune also comes great peril. Humility | Honest | Spiritual | Cautious What does it mean to be a Night Warrior? To properly answer this question, it needs to be broken down slightly. First, one must know what a Night Warrior is: A Night Warrior is an individual that is descended from Pulchior that resembles the night so that they may protect what is precious to them and to their respective clans. These dragons hold a fair amount of power in many instances such as fame, strength, respect, and sheer size of the family. This is a Night Warrior. So back to the original question, what does it be to be one? Well, that is best answered by telling Damocles's story. Like most Night Warriors, Damocles had been excited to know he qualified to be one. It was a legacy he had been very eager to live on. Through his training, the coatl had started to become a bit full of himself, but never vain. He just wasn't aware of what it means to become that which he desired. He believed himself to be the best as he is of the 10th generation, so he has 9 generations of wisdom and strength flowing through him. Yes, there are other generation 10s, but Damocles had felt himself special. On the eve of when he was to ascend to Night Warrior status, a message came to his home clan, a plea for help. Some rather, ah, enthusiastic shadow dragons had started a fire whist playing a game of hide and seek. Damocles, eager to prove his true worth, volunteered to go and help rescue the dragons and put out the flames. So along with a warrior adept in water magic, the two set off in a hurry. They arrived in a mere matter of hours and saw that the damage had spread and continued to quickly. Each warrior knew what needed to be done and set off to do it. Damocles's companion quickly went off to put the fires out with the use of their magic while Damocles himself went to go rescue any stranglers left behind. He found several hatchlings, all huddled together and using their wings to beat back the flames. The Night Warrior swooped in and picked them up in his arms. Just before he took off, an explosion went off to his left, sending flaming debris toward him and the hatchlings. He acted swiftly and shielded them with his wings. Ignoring the pain he felt, he forced himself to take flight and bring the hatchlings to safety. He continued on like this, the burns only getting worse as he continued to push himself to his limits and beyond. It had been a hard fought battle, but the Night Warriors won in the end without a single casualty. However, Damocles's wings had been burned beyond what magic could heal. The dragons from the clan he had just rescued helped to fly him home. He spent several weeks in intensive care. During this time, Damocles was able to properly assess himself and his situation. He said goodbye to his Home Clan as being there had become much too painful. All the pitiful looks he received hurt much more than his wings. Damocles wanted time to really think about what his next move would be. He visited other Night Warrior clans to see what they're respective heads had to say about his dilemma and for the first time in his life, he truly listened to what they had to say. He became wiser with each piece of advice and soon came to the conclusion that he would not give up on being a Night Warrior. After some time and through some rather odd occurrences that always seemed to pair with a crackle of laughter, Damocles came to CrestHaven where very few of his kin lived. Here, he realized he could truly become of use. He aides and guides not only his Night Warrior kin with all the knowledge and wisdom the generations before him have provided, he also sits in on CrestHaven's Council. Here, the coalt felt like he could make a difference, even if it was only on a few others. So, to finally answer the question, What it means to be a Night Warrior: It means sacrifice and doing what is right regardless of the consequences. |
