Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this Shade-born husk has come far from his home lair (Volrin, #261879), and now he's off to spread the darkness further. If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, drop him off at the Traveler's Hub, or send him back to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Travel Log:

Volrin: As a son of The Nameless One, Vemraz exists for the sole purpose of spreading his parent's corruption to new victims. He thinks and feels nothing, only a primal urge to spread the Shade amongst dragonkind and the sinister glee that comes from shapeshifting and manipulating others. Unlike his brother and sister, Kintra and Agul, who left their birthplace almost immediately after hatching, Vemraz stayed behind to await his mother's reawakening as a child of the Void.

As Fractal twitched one of her twisted, crumpled wings, she soon became aware of a small body huddled into the membrane the Shade creatures had shredded. She turned her weary snout towards it and was met with the eyeless face of her loyal Spiral son. His orchid-purple head flipped up to look at her, and his face split open with a razor-sharp grin; she felt no fear at the gruesome display this time, and rather, she grinned right back at him with fangs to rival his own.

Having inherited his father's ability to mold and change, Vemraz took on the appearance of an infant Fae. "In the next clan, you will be Flicker," Fractal commanded as she took him into her arms, and the "innocent baby Fae" looked up at her with wide, buttercup-yellow eyes that hadn't existed a moment before.

Unidra: This clan was difficult to corrupt. BotE seemed to shake some of the Shade's influence on Fractal, so much that she warned the next clan about the Shade. The clan had powerful mages, strengthened by BotE, and Vemraz could not extend the Shade's influence.

But - he could influence the Beastclans nearby.

Once the Beastclans were infected, they attacked the clan, scattering them. Fractal left before Vemraz could watch the clan being torn apart.

Caroo
After his mother's traitorous ways in the last clan, Vemraz made sure to stay right by her side. They flew for a few days before they came across a lightning lair. His mother acted like she hadn't noticed it and tried to keep going, but he was already on his way to the lair. His claws itched to get his hands on this small clan, yet he knew he couldn't corrupt it completely with his mother still in such an odd state of mind.

A few dragons passed by them on the way in, yet none seemed to question it. It was almost funny the way that they were so naive to share their food with them and tell them their stories so blindly. He acted interested for a few days, until it got boring. He was so tired of hearing them talk about all these great things they had done. His mother however couldn't get enough of it, and he got tired of that too. So one night he snuck out of the lair, flew until he found what he wanted, a birds nest that held three large eggs, and he carried it in his claws all the way back. He then replaced one of the eggs in the lair with the birds egg, and he couldn't stop grinning when he nudged his mother awake, showing his new trophy. She didn't say a word, she just frowned as she got up, shaking her wings as she got ready to leave. After a while of flying, he put the egg a few miles away, close enough so it might still be found.

Nuciferyne: Vemraz and his mother eventually crossed paths with the Nocte clan, a clan that had taken root in the shadows of firefox bramble. The clan welcomed new faces, for it had been long since any ventured so deep into this darkness. The elders could sense a struggle within the pair, noticing the rift between mother and son. Isis welcomed Fractal to join her, while leaving Vemraz in the company of some of the more youthful. However, intrigued by his dark aura, Meliora took notice of the sharp fanged spiral almost immediately. She invited him into her den and soon the mischievous Maleficent was born. The birth of their daughter stirred emotions inside Vemraz that he'd not known before. His thoughts, once filled only with desire for the shade, had begun to expand. He began to notice the delight in the shenanigans of his offspring, the little trickster she had become. She had become a new obsession for him. So much so, that he'd barely noticed the disappearance of his mother.

One night, he awoke to find Maleficent had vanished. He followed what little trail she had left, wandering angrily through the brambles. Had someone taken her? Was she trying to leave him? Thoughts of malice consumed the corrupted noodle, until he eventually crossed paths with his daughter once again, far from the clan of Nocte.

airemarshal: Vemras was full of conflicting emotions as he rejoined his daughter in a small Sunbeam Ruins town. Still struggling with his own identity: was he really a son of the shade? Could shadeborn dragons ever really become more? And yet, in wondering, he became further from his origins, and it confused and frustrated him. When he rejoined his daughter, he was silent, but the overwhelming emotions broiled within. He was lost, not in the world but in his own mind.

And what of Maleficent, the troublemaker? Would she be like him, feel the call of the shade just above the atmosphere?

Moonyen:
Vemraz was tired. So tired. He was exhausted from always being on the move. From trying to wreck havoc. From trying to fulfill the evil purpose bred into him. He had lost interest in almost everything, and it seemed the dark pit he was falling in was worse than anything he'd ever done to another dragon. A small voice inside him started telling him he'd be better off if he just fell asleep and never woke up. Even Maleficent seemed to be held down by him, and the voice said she's grown now and would be fine, (no, she'd be free) without him.

Then he sensed something.

Vemraz and Maleficent had wandered into Earth lands. Flying over the dust and rocks, Vemraz had been darkly considering folding his wings and crashing down into the sharp stones...when something tickled his intuition. At first he ignored it, but as they continued flying over the next few hours, it became an annoying buzz. It felt similar to the shady voice in his head telling him to end himself, yet different and more sinister. He spiraled down to perch on a huge petrified stump. Maleficent, scraping ungracefully to a stop, looked at him with curiosity. Vemraz closed his eyes, tuned out the physical, took a deep breath, and allowed himself to tap into a mysterious, finely-honed inner sense that could track Darkness.

West. Something foul was radiating from rocky hills to the west. Not like any Shade-touched evil he'd ever encountered. This was Plague and Arcane and Earth, and it was alive like cancer and ancient like the crystallized tree he was perching on.

Frankly, it scared him. But it also thrilled him and sent his curiosity soaring to heights unachieved since he was a hatchling.

"We're going over there," Vemraz told his daughter, and pointed with a wing. Maleficent looked with annoyance and doubt toward the tan hills, then she shrugged.

As they took flight, the small voice inside Vemraz whispered, You'll meet your end there if you're lucky. But Vemraz felt a surge of newfound power within: hope, anger, and excitement rolled together. No. I'll meet a new beginning, here in Earth lands.
