RiverRage enjoyed his time in the Flame clan from the first day. The smells and sounds of crackling fires stirred his soul. Food wasn't plentiful but it was delicious. The clan leaders welcomed him and supported his decisions - to stay a while and learn their ways, to observe his clanmates' battles, and finally to leave in search of more adventure.

RiverRage was welcomed into the Silentflame sanctuary after being found by Farstrider and the gathering party. He was found on the outskirts of the Ashfall waste parched and smelling like rot. The gatherers thought he was dead at first, but managed to wake him enough and lead him back to the sanctuary for water and a bath. After spending a week in the sanctuary regaining his strength he felt it was time to move on.

One does not simply fly into the mighty lair known as the clan of CloudChasing - unless your a demigod, but not even the demigod managed it without harm. However, that is a story for another time.
What we are here today to observe is the miraculous journey and incredible luck of a dragon known to those of his clan as RiverRage and known to others as... well he wasn't known to others.
Perhaps it would be more accurate to say we are chronologizing, more simply recording, the journeys of an amateur explorer who may or may not have intended to wander so far but through a series of let us say... lucky events ended up in the Reedcliff Ascent - somehow crossing the buffetting breezes and sharp blades of wind that many a more experienced explorer had fallen prey to, without harm.

The clan was a relaxed one. It was akin to a vacation - of sorts. Birds and animal of all colours, some of them not native to the area, flew around constantly. Occasionally, there would be the rare cloud or wind nymph that would flutter to RiverRage then retreat with giggles just before they touched him, lacking the courage but having curiosity in abundance.

It was a paradise although not of the tropical sort. More like a place where time sat still, or maybe it ran fast. Time did not matter.

For a time RiverRage resided in that clan. It was a timeless sort of place. Every day he would catch his food, share experiences with the other weary travellers that had approached the clan but then never left, bringing news of the outside.

But it could not last. On a still afternoon, the sun cast a halo around its light. The light travelled down, but it did not penetrate the shade. The shadows seemed darker. As night approached, the shadows came out to play. They were gentle at first, like shy wisps of wind but as the light left and they gained substance, they became darker. Instead of being the daylight fantasies, they became dark twisted nightmares. Every dragon native to the clan suffered. Not all survived and when morning came, some carcasses had areas eaten away and had the appearance of a corpse long dead and not freshly killed.

A heavy air lay over the place, one of death and sorrow. The grass was withered, the previous charming shrubs now adopted a twisted appearance as if reflecting what had happened just so recently. With a heavy heart, RiverRage left the hollow and ran, tears dripping down against his will as he grieved in his own way for the brothers and sisters he had lost all because of one night where he lay paralyzed with fear, unable to save those he had called family. He felt like a coward and vowed to himself,

Never Again

He flew far, not paying attention to the passing scenery. Days, months, possibly years went by; he couldn't tell. Never staying in one place for long, never getting too attached to anyone, he had suffered too much pain to develop friends. Fear of the people he loved dying, he continuously ran like a child.

There was a small gust of wind one morning. He had assumed it would just be a windy day, but he was incredibly wrong. The small gusts of wind turned to chaotic, swirling, and biting wind creating a vicious vortex. He was whisked into the tornado, and spat out somewhere he had never seen in his life.

Large crystal pillars grew out of the dusty ground, forming a large barrier. They were too tall for a regular dragon to fly over, which made him curious as to what could be living behind those walls. He soon got his answer.

A large Imperial, almost twice the size of a usual one, flew overhead. She saw him, and flew down with a small look of anger. He panicked, and quickly flew away, but even his abnormally big wings could not escape the large beats of the Imperial. She flew ahead of him and then turned in midair, opening her mouth to speak. He ran straight into her, collapsed, and hit his head on the ground terrified.

He was awake for only a minute, but through his blurry vision he could see shelves filled with herbs and pastes. He could also smell the sour stench of medicine, which for some odd reason made him feel safe. He quickly fell back to sleep.

He had finally awoke, back where he had started 24 hours ago, in perfect condition. Perhaps it had been a dream?

Though his stay was brief, RiverRage enjoyed being around the dragons in the Purring winds. The food was good, the mood was jolly, and RiverRage was happy. Still, he quickly moved on, not quite at home with the peaceful clan.
