POPPY

"This is a home to all children of wanderlust.
May less suffer the same fates as you all, my dear friends.”

Water splashed the bank, tiny droplets of lake splattering onto her teal claws and dripping away almost immediately, glimmering like fireflies in the warm afternoon sun. Pink and purple flowers were beginning to bloom like fireworks all around, and suddenly, a sadness overtook her heart. There would be little time before she lost sight of this glorious phenomenon forever. That is, until death. She took off from the grass, wings flaring and started to dance in the air, oblivious of a large pair of pink eyes gazing down at her. “Hello, Poppy, dear.” A large rumbling voice called out, reminding her of the old windmill that creaked in the nearby village. Poppy whirled around to face the grand figure of the Arcanist, whose large horns were glimmering in the sunshine.

“Father.” She said, surprised, and bowed, landing onto the grassy green field with a small thump. The Arcanist chuckled in approval.

“I have good news, my dear. You have finally received a call from the outside world.” The outside world! Poppy shot up, blinking her eyes in surprise. A gasp caught in her tiny throat and everything seemed to slow.

“From whom, Father?” She asked, her tongue dry. The Arcanist’s large glowing eyes closed peacefully, as if deep in thought.

“You’ll be meeting with it soon; then, you’ll know.” He replied, his deep voice rumbling the entirety of the sacred garden. Poppy remained silent. Her destiny had finally begun.

Deep beneath the bustling, glowing, and beautifully advanced city within the Astrolodome, a sacred garden thrives, blossoming once every century. The Arcanist is the sole caretaker of the Starlit Sanctuary, a beautiful home to hundreds of species of arcane flora and nurturing several other hundreds of his possible successors. Poppy succeeded in receiving a fraction of the Arcanist's tremendous power and held the Father's gift close to her as she set foot outside what used to be her eternal home and into the outside world.

During her time in the moral realm, Poppy was an avid explorer and cared deeply about the company she kept. Her first journey was to the Southern Icefield, an easy trek from the Starfall Isles, where she met her first mate, Odys, who, at the time, was in desperate need of work after leaving his mercenary days behind him. Poppy hired him as a bodyguard and the two continued to traverse across Sornieth. Along the way, the party continued to expand: they picked up Fret, a professional messenger and well-spoken native of Cloudsong; Swirls, a surprisingly talented market healer from the docks of Lanternlea Port; and lastly, Myra, an outcast seer and witch living alone in the shadows of the Thorndark Altar, skillfully using its century-old magical energy. Together, their travels together formed inseparable bonds - all were once excluded from their homes, now found new ones within each other.

Poppy brought her band of renegades back to the Starfall Isles and together, began construction on an enormous project atop Hoverview Vale. This would come to be known as Poppy Castle, a home to weary travellers, curious peculiars, and those who had lost sight of their futures. The Founding Council, proud of their work, celebrated daily, enjoying their days in their very own haven, but Queen Poppy knew her time in this realm was limited. She was no regular dragon, after all; she had set out on a life given to her by the Father and she would eventually need to return it.

After hearing of this heartbreaking news, the Founding Council worked together to, somehow, retain Poppy's spirit so that she would continue to be able to communicate from the Outer Realms, whatever that was. And thus, the Arcane Mask was created using bits of Poppy's soul and flesh. Whoever should wear this shall bear the burden of speaking for the eternal Queen Poppy after her passing.

Queen Poppy's body now rests deep within the vaults of the North Wing, heavily protected by spells cast by Ginger's own claws, covered in the same clothes that she wore during her mortal time, although now tattered. Every once in a while, her eyes would glow a brilliant violet, and that's how you'd know she had something to say to her beloved castle.
