Quote:
Zelra was born in a Wind clan in what feels like a very long time ago. She had doting parents and grew up among love and plenty. She left her original clan and joined one in the Light region soon after. She stayed there for the majority of her life, laying many nests. Most of those with a Wind Skydancer named Chomth, though she also laid one nest with a Wind Guardian named Stith. Her life felt rather fulfilled for a long time. But then one day, her clan fell into an unexpected hibernation and she fell asleep for much longer than she meant. When she awoke, the world was different and she felt very out of place. Even her clan didn't feel the same. It felt empty or at least missing something. Although her former mates were still of the clan, she somehow felt like she wasn't wanted anymore. So she left.

She wandered the marketplace and trading posts, trying to find a place to belong among dragons she identified with. But everything was so different--there were so many genes and breeds of dragon she'd never seen before! Even dragons' eyes looked different and there were colors she couldn't remember seeing. It unnerved her and made her feel even more alone. Even more so, she got wind of what made dragons likable for finding new clans, and she knew with her genes and offspring list she'd never be popular or sought after. So she kept her head down and hurried through the busy streets. But just as she'd lost all hope and promise, she heard a dragon calling out through the crowds. She didn't recognize his voice but had a feeling he was calling her, so she turned. A Water Pearlcatcher strode towards her. She'd never met him before, she was sure, but she noted that he looked and smelled like he was from her time. No new colors, genes, or eyes. She relaxed a little and wondered why he was trying to catch up to her.
"You there, wait! Oh my, you must think I'm a madman, I'm so sorry."
"No, it's alright. What do you need?" She asked kindly.
"This seems like an odd out-of-the-blue question and I apologize, but who are your parents?" She furrowed her eyebrows at the random question but answered as she had nothing to lose.
"Hyacinth and Cornflower, a Light Fae and Nature Guardian." His face lit up.
"I KNEW IT! I thought you looked too much like him for it to be a coincidence! What with your age and looks it just had to be!!" She cocked her head to the side, confused. He quickly explained. "I'm sorry again for the weirdness. I am Pebblewater, Scribe to Vixen's Clan of The Observatory. Your brother, Bellflower, is in our clan. He's been a longtime member who joined not long after myself. As a scribe I keep track of everyone in the clan and their relations and parents, etc. It sounds ridiculous I know, but I saw you in the crowds and you look so much like him I just had to check." Zelra paused for a minute, remembering.
"Bellflower?" She knew that name sounded familiar, like a name her parents had mentioned once or twice before. Was he...their firstborn?
"He might be from a different clutch from yours, but still--that's amazing! That you're still around! And that I ran into you in the markets!" She smiled, nodding.
"Yes, it is actually. I had no idea I'd still have family around. I've been asleep for too long. I don't remember the world like this. It's nice to know there's still some familiarity somewhere." Pebblewater noted the longing and sadness in her voice.
"Are you...I mean, do you have somewhere you're living? Do you have your own clan? Or is that why you're in the markets...?" She looked down in slight embarrassment.
"You got me. I'm in between clans right now. I thought I'd look around but I was getting a little intimidated by all the change, honestly."
"That's understandable. Sornieth keeps growing and evolving. There are even Ancient breeds that have awoken now!"
"...Ancient...breeds?" Her eyebrows furrowed again. Pebblewater smiled at her warmly.
"Not to worry. You'll catch up. If you want, you can join our clan. We live in the Arcane region; we're an ancient lair now. So there's lots of dragons but if that seems too formidable not to worry. There are different subregions of our clan. In fact, your brother, Bellflower, lives in one of the subregions--the smallest one. It's among the tidepools and by the ocean. It's really just one big family over there."
"That sounds really nice." She'd never met this brother but the idea of him sounded lovely enough. Pebblewater nodded at her and motioned her to follow him.
"Come along, and welcome to Vixen's Clan."

When they arrived upon clan ground, her guide first met up with an aged Ice Pearlcatcher called Lavi who apparently was in charge of connecting families with each other. After a quick introduction he flew off apparently to report her arrival to Vixen, the Matriarch. Before even meeting the clan leader, Zelra was escorted by Pebblewater to the Ocean Community which was apparently the subregion where her family lived. She took one step into the tidepools when she saw a Wind Guardian in the distance. She'd never seen him for sure but one look and she knew it was her brother. He apparently knew it too as he ran through the pools to meet her. They stood across from each other in silence for several beats, looking the other over. Finally, he spoke.
"Are you my sister?" He asked hopefully. She nodded, eyes welling with tears.
"Yes, I'm Zelra. Daughter of Hyacinth and Cornflower."
"It's so nice to meet you!" He said genuinely, tearing up as well. They wrapped their necks in an embrace as the other dragons of the region flocked to them. "I didn't know I still had family out there somewhere. It's been so long since I'd seen anyone from my past." She smiled broadly.
"I know. I thought I'd be all alone, but Pebblewater found me and told me about you." Her brother looked past her toward the Pearlcatcher who also was tearing up.
"Thank you, thank you so much."
"Of course, Bellflower. It's my honor. I'll leave you all to it." He nodded to her and the others and flew away, back to his region. Bellflower turned back to his sister.
"I'm so glad you came! You can live here with us if you like. Or a different region if you prefer, it's up to you."
"I appreciate the offer but I don't have anything to offer your clan. I don't have any trade or really know anything about the current time. I'm really behind...I don't want to take up space here." She admitted honestly. He shook his head vehemently.
"Not an issue. You are family. Family is always welcome here. Vixen, our Matriarch, decreed it so. If you want to join us, it doesn't matter what you have or don't have to offer--you already have a place here. Okay?" She nodded with more tears in her eyes. "Okay, so let me introduce you to your family! Right here is Aquarius, Mojito, Kaleido, and Cascada. And then here's Seasalt and Fruity. Seasalt is my daughter so I guess that makes her your niece! And then Seaturtle and Seagrass live over there a bit, they're very sweet. And Charbydis is in the ocean somewhere. She's a bit eccentric but I'm sure you'll like her." Before she could be overwhelmed, her apparent niece stepped forward and embraced her warmly.
"I'm so excited to get to know you! Welcome to our family, Aunt Zelra!"

And with that, Zelra was one of them. She had never heard of polyamory before and although she realized it wasn't really for her, she still loved her community so much. They all felt like family to her. And over time, she became very close with Aquarius, specifically. Perhaps it was due to all the vacations she took with her niece, many of which the Lightning Spiral accommodated, as he had a more brotherly-bond with the Arcane Guardian. But he was an older dragon like she and they found they had a lot in common. They eventually regarded one another as primaries, although she didn't have any secondaries or other. She's a monogamous sort after all. But she loves and supports her family with how and who they are.
So now this once lonely dragon lives with love and plenty once more, relaxing in the sun and sea with her brother, niece, mate, and bestest friends she could ever ask for.

After a while in the clan, she decided what role to take on. She noticed that though they had a couple healers, there was no basic nurse in the clan. Someone to go to if you scrape your arm, stub your foot, or if your eyes are crusty. Although she wasn't trained in the medical sciences, she'd been around for a long while and had learned how to patch things up correctly by herself. She asked Vixen if she could attend some training to be the Clan Nurse, and the Matriarch was more than glad to allow her. So now if a hatchling falls out of a tree or if a verbal fight turns into a physical one, the dragons come to her and she sees to their wounds.
