Fame should have been enough for Garmites, but he was not satisfied with it. He had come to wide renown for his magic tricks - making things disappear, levitation, illusions - and it was all great fun, certainly. Yet it was not enough. He did not want to simply be another showman. He wanted real magic, real power.

So he took to collecting curiosities, convinced that somewhere amongst the taxidermy gaffs and glass balls there would be some key to unlocking the magic within himself. He amassed a small museum's worth of oddities, spending much of his time pouring over dusty tomes.

Slowly, his powers began to grow. Levitation no longer relied on wires, illusions were not just smoke and mirrors. And as his powers grew, so did his thirst. He relished in his magic, and delved deeper and deeper into his studies.

Then, one day, he came across an item. A prosthetic arm made of gleaming polished stone. It was worth a fortune. And the shifty merchant selling it spoke of some magical powers. Garmites took the arm, but was not content to let it just sit in his collection. Shortly after the purchase, he found a doctor willing to perform an amputation.

The merchant had been correct in that the arm did possess powers - but not the kind Garmites had wanted. No, the arm had a mind of its own, and, like him, it was thirsty for power.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the rock grew, enveloping Garmites by centimeters, with a goal towards controlling his entire body.
