FACETED

EARLY YEARS: Alessan, the Sun King, gleamed and glimmered like precious gold. He surrounded himself with representations of the sun like sunflowers, marigolds, golden lanterns, silks, etc. He wore a great halo of sunlight. He valued all things that were tributes to the sun, but most precious to him was his mate, the Moon Goddess, Lyanna.

They first met during the great solar eclipse ball last year. Lyanna stood on the balcony, surrounded by silver moonlight with an aura of solitude and tranquility about her. He thought if he blinked, she might dissolve into the moonlight she appeared so ephemeral.

She was Alessan's opposite in many ways, but that's one of the things that attracted him to her. She spoke in soft, melodic tones and moved with the grace of a ghost. Although she looked delicate, he suspected Lyanna had an inner strength, like a deadly panther. Alessan himself burned with a quiet intensity and fortitude. He moved as he spoke, with purpose and presence.

He remembered how they danced, intuiting each other's movements perfectly. They had an engaging conversation and kept coming back to each other over the course of the night. He'd never met anyone who he connected with so much. Towards the closing of the event, he confessed this to her, and she was astonished as she felt the same way. They promised to see each other again the next day and eventually became lovers.

LATER YEARS: A Sun God came spoke to Alessan in a dream. There was an opportunity for him to become a Sun God as well, if he went into space to the Sun Palace and completed the ceremony. This was his reward, as Alessan had been a fine Sun King. The only catch was that he had to find a way into space to the palace to attend and that the ceremony would permanently change his genes and he would be infused with the power of the sun. When Alessan awoke, he told Lyanna all about what had happened and his feelings of conflict.

He'd always wanted to be Sun God to be on the same level as her, a Moon Goddess, but he didn't think that was ever attainable for him and was concerned what kind of changes might happen to him physically since he imagined himself to be very beautiful already. She told him to follow his heart and that she supported him no matter what he chose.

After mulling it over for a few weeks, Alessan decided to go for it. He consulted the clan's first rate space planner, the mysterious Quaisoir, and with her spooky space magic, he was ready to fly. It was terribly cold and he was glad the invisible magic suit surrounding him kept him warm and full of oxygen. He was given no directions to the Sun Palace, and so he set his trajectory towards the sun in hopes of spotting the palace along the way.

Towards the edge of the sun's reach, the great gas flames shooting out wildly, he saw the palace floating on a kind of gaseous sunlit cloud. He'd been worried before that he would get too close and feel the sun's wrath, but he survived and made it into the palace. It appeared empty until he saw the great hall he saw in his dreams. There were a council of Sun Gods present and they shone with mini-suns all over their bodies. He stood in awe and was escorted towards the center where there was no ceiling, just a straight hole that let the sun's rays in.

As he sat, they began to chant in what he could only assume was the sun's language due to the strange hissing and crackling he heard, and suddenly one of the flames came through the roof. He was instructed to stay seated no matter what, and although he wanted to run as the flame shot down towards him, he forced himself to stay calm and closed his eyes in case this didn't go as planned. He pictured Lyanna on the first night he met her and then the night of their declaration of love.

The flame engulfed him and instead of burning up, he heard a voice from the flame. It said to him that it was pleased to finally talk with him in its true form, not muddled down as sunlight, and that he was to become a god now. Alessan felt a zap through his body and when it left, the flame had gone and he felt a tingling. When he opened his eyes, the other Sun Gods bowed before him and welcomed him as a new Sun God. Alessan looked down and found his body much changed, but somehow he seemed more beautiful than before. He was indeed infused with the sun's rays.

After a great celebration feast, he flew back to Sornieth and dove into the Sea to Lyanna and the rest of the clan. They marveled at his sun-infused body and congratulated him on his new role as a Sun God. Lyanna gave him a tender kiss when he arrived and let him mingle with the clan before going back to their area of the lair together for quiet reflection on what he had experienced. They fell asleep in each other's arms and have continued to have a strong bond to this day.
