Biography
● Zahkrii ●
'Sword'
Name-Giver: Vedsahnir
Master Assassin
'Sword'
Name-Giver: Vedsahnir
Master Assassin
Many years ago, Zahkrii was a lieutenant in the forces of the Shadowbinder, specializing in espionage and assassinations. He was known for his clever tactics and charm under pressure, always able to fight or flirt his way out of any situation. His captain and closest friend was Vedsahnir, whom he had trained with since they were very young. No matter the mission, high command knew that if they assigned the pair of them to a mission it would be carried out flawlessly. Unfortunately, a pivotal mission in the Light domain failed catastrophically, and Zahkrii’s company was surrounded by hundreds of enemy warriors. Ved wanted to stand and fight, determined not to let him or his men become prisoners, but Zahkrii tried desperately to convince him that surrendering and being able to fight again another day was a much better course of action. Ved refused to listen, so when the fighting lulled for the night Zahkrii snuck away, easily able to disguise himself with his rogue skills and Light heritage. It was a few days later that he learned the entire company had been executed, and though he grieved his dozens of lost brothers, he couldn’t forgive Ved for leading them to their deaths. For many years Zahkrii lived in Light territory, knowing full well he would not escape arrest or worse if he returned to Shadow. As far as they knew, he had died with the rest of the company, so if he returned unscathed he would be branded a deserter and coward. Instead, he made a life in the Light domain, brewing poisons and making blades for local thief and assassin guilds. His heart remained heavy, though, and he knew he could never truly heal from that fateful battle until he talked to Ved again. Thinking this was impossible, Zahkrii began to travel aimlessly, searching desperately for anything (mostly vices) that could make him feel whole again. One night he found himself on the doorstep of the Tavern, unexpectedly wandering into the limbo between worlds while traveling near the Lightning domain. He learned that Ved had come to the Tavern after his death, and Zahkrii was fondly pleased to learn he had risen in the ranks to become Paladin Captain. Ved insisted on ignoring him for months after he arrived at the Tavern, but their simmering frustration finally culminated in a bloody fight in the training arena. The skirmish was a welcome catharsis, and they actually started speaking again - though with plenty of mean-spirited sniping. Nowadays, Zahkrii can be found training his apprentices Sosdothur and Zaan, who both share his delight for the macabre. They're both a bit preoccupied with interests outside of becoming assassins, but he’s happy to have a task to distract him. He also occasionally goes with Lovaas and Kunzii on diplomatic missions, protecting them from bandits and providing a level-headed, tactical opinion whenever needed. He can also be found training with Agvokun and Ved, though they both have little patience for his theatrics in battle and incessant grinning - “This isn’t a game, Zahkrii”. |
