Biography

sword_1_by_rexcaliburr-dbedyub.png Strider
I am coming after you.

Strider flicked his tong. There was the scent again. His prey was close. And it was wounded. Which meant it would be at least twice as dangerous. But if it can bleed, it can die, he thought and a menacing smile curled his lips. It was time to leave the past behind him once and for all. Though he carried the scars of the unnatural beast which had almost ended his life as a constant reminder of his failure, he wasn’t that scared young dragon anymore. He had survived, trained hard to fight his enemies and fought even harder to overcome the demons of his own fear. Tonight was the night he would prove himself worthy of the ancient bloodline of Night Warriors he was descended from. He would not disappoint his family again.

The creature was running in circles, crossing streams and retracing its own steps probably hoping it would confuse him until it was strong enough to shift between the planes again. But its efforts also made it weaker. The trickle of silvery blood on the ground became more pronounced with every minute that passed. Strider hastened his steps. He was shivering slightly with anticipation as he closed in on his prey. A twig snapped to his left and Strider crouched down, swiftly changing directions to head towards the treacherous noise. After a few hundred meters he finally spotted the creature crossing a clearing. It was limping and moving forward obviously caused it pain. It wasn’t nearly as swift and agile as it had been when it attacked the rangers’ outpost. Strider narrowed his eyes, watching the beast carefully. The wound was on its left thigh which meant this was its weak side. But it was still a formidable opponent, standing at almost 15 feet tall with sharp several inch-long claws and teeth as weapons. Its red eyes were gleaming with malice while it scanned the area. It knows that I’m close, Strider thought. No point trying to catch it by surprise. He took a deep breath and unsheathed his metallic claws. Time to end the hunt.

As he stepped out of the forest onto the clearing, the beast flung around snarling. Strider bared his teeth in response, fighting back the urge to throw himself right at the creature’s neck. Instead he began circling his opponent, trying to lure it into attacking him by exposing his flank. The stupid beast took the bait. Strider dodged the attack, whirled around swiftly and scratched its back, leaving deep scratches in its hide. The creature screamed with anguish and rage. Strider smiled while dancing out of reach, tantalizing and teasing his opponent into attacking him over and over again. Eventually, the creature was bleeding from numerous cuts and small scratches, weakening it slowly but inevitably. Its movement became sluggish, unfocused and when it stumbled, Strider made his final move.

He flung himself high into the air with a single powerful beat of his wings. The creature seemed baffled by his sudden disappearance and hesitated. It hesitated a second too long. Strider aimed for the creature’s neck, plunging down from above. He could feel his claws ripping through flesh and muscles and the beast howled in agony. Snarling, Strider drove the steel deeper into the beast’s flesh. It tossed and turned, trying to throw the dragon off but Strider clung to it, bearing it down with the weight of his body and finally nailing it to the ground. As the creature took its last breaths, Strider leaned close to watch the red glow in its eyes faint away slowly. “Yeah, that’s right.” he hissed softly. “You go back to where you came from and tell your filthy brethren to stay on the other side. There is nothing here for you except death. Trust me, we will find a way to put you and your kind down for good.” When the beast lay still, Strider rolled off its back and onto the ground. He was breathing heavily, wrestling down the creature after their deadly dance had taken its toll. But he was alive and that thing was dead.

It had been a good hunt.

Information
Name // Strider
-- Origin of name // His mother named him after the first thing she saw after he cracked the shell of his egg, a water strider. And although these small creatures seem quite humble at first glance, they are fast and agile predators. Thus, his mother chose well.

Role // Warrior & Hunter

Personality // Personality: Strider’s personality was shaped by his near-death experience and the loss of his best friend early in life. His body was badly scarred by the foul creature but worse was the damage it inflicted on his soul. Seeing his best friend being torn apart while lying helplessly on the ground left a mark that will never go away. At first, he froze whenever he was confronted with “real” combat action. This humiliation was almost worse than losing his friend. But Stormlight was a patient teacher, he knew that the bloodline of Pulchrior and Kidara was strong, stronger than the trauma the young dragon had suffered. When Strider eventually overcame his state of shock, he turned into an aggressive and fierce fighter. He loves to hunt down and taunt the enemy, beast and dragon alike. Once he is on his prey’s trail he will not quit until he captures and kills it. He never shows mercy. Though he is loyal to his family and Clan, he has never become close to any dragon again. Others often describe him as cold and distant, a loner with a rather short temper. They keep their distance and Strider likes it that way.

Familiar // Stalker
-- Role of familiar // Stalker was given to him by the Beastmaster Neacal. Strider has asked for a familiar that would not talk back, be too intelligent for its own good and most importantly, small and inconspicuous. Nothing fancy or fluffy. The firebug was the perfect companion. Though its eyesight is indeed pretty abysmal, it always pays off to have a second pair of eyes on your prey.
