Biography

Pernis’ egg was found just before the annual earth festival started and since no one came to ask about it the clan decided to hatch it along with a water egg once the Night of the Nocturne ended. Pernis got along with the water dragon Itameri and they decided to sneak out of the hatchery with help from older hatchlings. Pernis was excited to explore the lair and was very curious about how the earth seemed to rise towards the sky and about all the craters that created pools of water across the lair. He flew back and forth the lair trying to see all it had to offer before being ordered back to Kaamos when Itameri had a stroke.

Pernis was bored in the hatchery with others having their parents to play with while Itameri was not in there keeping him company and he didn’t like being in one place all the time. The following night he again sneaked out with some help and continued exploring the lair this time checking the borders of the lair. While he was doing so he came across some miniature stone buildings. Pernis was fascinated by them and came closer only to be scared by an angry snapper causing him to break the nearest one. Breaking one of his, Gneiss’, creations didn’t make the snapper happier and he drove Pernis away making it clear he did not want to see him again.

Pernis though did not let that discourage him and he sneaked to watch Gneiss' creations often getting so excited that he didn’t notice modifying them, or Gneiss coming back, and was hit by rocks many times because of that. The stone structures the snapper made though were so great that Pernis couldn’t help but wonder how they would look if they actually existed. The lair had very few building, only an observatory, a workshop and a smithy in a cave, and Pernis started to imagine Gneiss’ stone buildings in the lair making it more city looking with all of them having some kind of purpose like one being a library and so on.

One night Pernis had once again sneaked to admire Gneiss’ newest stone buildings when he was startled by Rosalin. She didn’t seem to notice that and asked rhetorical question about him wanting to make them reality. Pernis could barely answer when Gneiss came back having heard the structure breaking when Rosalin had scared Pernis and was very mad. He though didn’t rage for long as Rosalin soon silenced him telling that if he stopped whining like a little brat every time something didn't go like he wanted she might let him help design a temple she had been planing. That came very out of the blue for Pernis and he couldn’t quite understand what she was saying but almost passed out due to excitement when she explained wanting to build something that would make the Arcanist proud, and she wanted them to help.

They started designing almost immediately Pernis being ten times as excited as Gneiss who didn’t seem like wanting to help them. His stone miniatures though were very important for designing the temple Rosalin wanted to build and she let him stay despite barely standing him. Eventually their design was ready and Rosalin proposed it to the clan leaders while Pernis tried to let out his excitement about building something great with Gneiss who didn’t seem to care. Eventually Rosalin came back looking a bit disappointed and Pernis flied to ask if the leaders had shot down their project. That had not happened but they thought it was a bit too large for their clan as of now but whether or not they were able to accomplish their goal was up to rest of the clan.

The clan decided that the temple as the trio had designed it was too large and suggested they’d make a smaller one for time being. Rosalin was not that happy with the results but Pernis was excited to get to build something. They started working with the temple Pernis still willing to make the best they could while both snappers seemingly sulked. Once the foundation and few walls were done Rosalin suddenly suggested that they’d visit the earth dragons at the Pillar of the World to get some tips. Pernis was super excited to visit his elemental home but Gneiss was anything but willing to go and Pernis left with Rosalin while the other snapper stayed to look after the temple project.

They eventually reached the Pillar after Pernis had admired all the monuments they passed by and though in ruin Pernis still found the Pillar beautiful. There they were taught some stuff about designing structures, architecture and some earth manipulation spells and returned the clan ten days later Pernis having been promoted to be clan’s earth ambassador. Their clan mates were happy about Pernis’ new status but Gneiss was clearly jealous and while they had been gone he had changed their blueprints of the temple ending up with end result conflicting badly with Rosalin’s vision.

Rosalin and Gneiss argued a lot trying to get upper hand in temple project with Pernis getting used to his new status while that was going on. It got very bad and eventually Rosalin drove Gneiss out of the clan altogether with rest of the clan agreeing with the decision. With Gneiss gone Rosalin and Pernis fixed the ”damage” he had done causing the project to fall behind the schedule but soon they were back on track.

The temple was going along nicely and they were able to work faster after the inn was finished. Some time later Pernis heard rumors about his orphan coeval Itameri having become clan’s water ambassador after having learned to control his visions that had caused his stroke during their first time exploring the lair. Though having barely seen the pearlcatcher after the incident Pernis found it quite funny that the two orphans having hatched almost at the same time got similar statuses.

Pernis asked Rosalin if they could make Itameri a room where he could use his gift safely and after doing some changes to the blueprints they included it in. It slowed down the project a little bit but they were already a bit late without real deadline so it wasn’t a big deal. Eventually the temple was finished and with that done Rosalin started to rework with her original temple design while Pernis started to plan how to use clan’s environment.

Small pile of brown petals.

Rosalin kept fighting with her dream while Pernis helped if he had time but more often he was either planning how to use clan’s territory or doing his duties as earth ambassador. The two had basically become a couple but Rosalin barely helped Pernis with his work instead focusing all of her time to her project that had been in dead end for a long time now. He had asked her to take a break but she was so dead set with making the best temple she could that she seemed to take all suggestions of breaks as offences.

Eventually Rosalin’s sister Theia was planning to fly to one of the Moons with a rocket her parents were doing and Pernis helped with making the launch pad. Rosalin though didn’t seem interested trying to get her temple ready. Pernis was sure that if she had not been able to solve her problem by now it probably would not get solved by staring the papers for nights to end and asked her to help. For some reason Rosalin was offended by that asking if he didn’t care about her dream to which Pernis answered that he did but also suggested her to get some fresh air to help her thoughts. Still sounding offended Rosalin repeated that she should get some fresh air and went out Pernis hoping that would make her less tense.

That though didn’t happen and still refusing to lay down her project she decided to start travel across the continent hoping architecture from other regions would inspire her. Pernis could not understand the snapper and asked her to rethink her decision but Rosalin had made up her mind and told Pernis either come with her or stay home. Pernis had no choice with his job as ambassador and he stayed home as Rosalin left the clan a mirror named Utu as her companion.

Pernis stayed in the lair designing what kind of buildings the clan should have and what kind of town it should become with it growing bigger and bigger. Rosalin had left her temple plans home but Pernis was too scared to touch them in case Rosalin came back and she might not be happy if he had altered her holy work. He though kept them in mind when planning the rest of the lair and kept all the planned sites ready to be build on if needed. Occasionally he though traveled to the Pillar to maintain the ties and one time he happened to be there when Rosalin arrived. They had an awkward meeting both being unsure if they should address the fights they had before departing. Neither of them liked the situation and they just quickly informed others how they were doing and when the two were coming back before going their ways.

Rosalin and Utu eventually returned to the lair soon after Nova had discovered a new constellation. Pernis told Rosalin what he had planned while she had been gone and she told what she had seen during her journey. Rosalin was a bit tired but she still wanted to get back to work and while she was trying to get into the flow she glanced to Pernis’ plans about step architecture and had an idea. She asked to see the star map about Nova’s discovery and after being deep in her thoughts for some time she asked if Pernis could manipulate islands and steps so they could make the same shape as the constellation. Rosalin was thinking the same thing as Pernis and the two started to flesh out their idea of a temple that would truly make the Arcanist proud.

Rosalin wanted to avoid the humiliation of the last time and after having their ideas fleshed out the duo visited the most important dragons, aka the dragons who would get their own offices, for feedback on their idea to make sure at least they were on board when the leaders would no doubt vote about the new temple, and full lair revamp. They then changed the plans to take into count the feedback they got and finished the blueprints once everyone was somewhat pleased with what they would get and suggested the temple revamp to the leaders including Pernis' lair architecture plan with it. It lead to the voting and thanks to the preparations the plan was accepted the way it was. The clan being excited about the constellation Nova had found even changed its name to fit the upcoming constellation shaped temple.

The clan started to work with the lair architecture starting with the inn to be able to home potential outside help if needed. However, it soon became clear that the project had started too well with some space creatures arriving to the clan driving its familiars mad not even sparing beastclans. They were usually very willing to help with large project they usually not having other jobs and having them become hostile out of the blue was a huge problem for the project. The clan had not enough free dragons to work with the project at least with decent pace and hiring help was out of questions with familiars acting aggressive. To add to that even some dragons started to behave hostile the clan needing to halt the project due to threat of a war it caused.

Both Pernis and Rosalin were annoyed by the sudden turn of events their long time project having finally taken steps to actually becoming reality only to stop like hitting a wall. With the situation being what it was the duo couldn't really do much and spent their time wondering if they should do some redesigning in Starwood lair two dragons living there though it was otherwise abandoned. They even considered the Peak, the first lair, that had no residents to be also remade because it still belonged to the clan.

One evening the duo had returned to their main project discussing about spells that would protect the lair, keep the temple in shape, connect some hidden portals and all that stuff. While doing that Sapny came to see them Rosalin not being pleased how she entered the room without knocking interrupting their discussion. Before the snapper though managed to finish her sentence, or even turn fully, Sapny turned her into stone telling Pernis they could do it easy or hard way.

Pernis was confused by the sudden turn of events and just turned his head between the stone snapper and earth nocturne trying to figure out what she meant with "it". She asked him to give her his magic which Pernis was not going to do it probably killing him trying to calm down with Rosalin somehow taking threatening steps towards him he asking either of them to stop. Pernis had still no idea what was going o he backing away from stone Rosalin slowly when Sapny said time was up and he fell to the ground weak as she pulled the magic out of him. He barely saw anything when the nocturne moved Rosalin to stand on his wings, like he had power to move in the first place, and left the building blocking the door by lifting the earth in front of it.

Even without Rosalin standing on him Pernis could not move at all and just lied hoping someone would find him. The following evening Pernis felt an earthquake in his half asleep state hearing the ground rising and he was sure Sapny was using the spells he had stolen from him. After that he just slept in silent darkness for days starting to feel both hungry and thirsty. Eventually something woke him up that something trying to move his body but being prevented due to Rosalin still remaining on her spot. After that someone contacted Pernis through telepathy asking him to submit to Them. Pernis was tired and confused and asked who that was but never got reply.

Pernis was not sure how long it had been since the weird telepathic message which he had started to assume was just hallucination when he heard the earth blocking the door make sound. It lowered itself behind it being group of dragons, mostly earth mages from the Pillar among them Pernis' ambassador familiar Vuohi who never left Dragonhome. Pernis assumed they had gotten mad because he had not contacted the Pillar which he should have done during the past days, just an update of the situation the clan had had with the plague clan, and was slightly confused when none of them showed hint of anger even before seeing Pernis under Rosalin.

Pernis had no power to reply to any of them and due to lack of magic telepathic connection between him and Vuohi was very intermittent. They were able to tell somewhat what had happened and the Pillar mages decided to take him to the Pillar to recover one taking him there while rest stayed to fix what Sapny had done. At the heart of the earth domain Pernis started to recover the earth magic being strong there and he was eventually able to talk and move. Storm visited him occasionally reporting what was going in the lair and told that the mages had been able to revert spell casted on Rosalin she waiting him to return.

After a month Pernis was finally able to make it back to the lair where Sapny's spell had done a lot to the lair layout. Rosalin having barely suffered from the spell had tried to modify their plans to adapt to the new layout in case Pernis could not restore it. Pernis took a look at the plans and suggested they kept the layout the way it was now using Rosalin's new plans and only changed what was needed. It was easier for all of them and the new plan was actually pretty neat. They informed about the change of plan to the lair and continued working the clan having recovered enough from whatever happened while Pernis was locked inside his office even familiars having gotten back to their senses. The project was going forward and step by step in neared finishing.

Small pile of brown petals.

Months after the incident the clan started to look like Pernis and Rosalin's vision and by the looks of it the whole project would be finished for the House Cup. The clan would no doubt be excited to celebrate the event in just finished lair but before they reached July June held its own event. The Dragonhome Preservation Guild was doing an expedition and they had requested volunteers. Pernis wasn't sure how many in the clan was interested about that when they had their own project nearing finishing but he still delivered the request. From the entire clan only Kolari was excited to join and the two left to join the digging Rosalin staying to supervise the lair project.

Kolari was very excited to join the digging event known as Dustcarve Dig. Pernis knew she had wanted to join the one Dragonhome had had the previous Rockbreaker's but she had been busy digging tunnels in the clan. The ridgeback had been a massive help with the lair project and Pernis hoped she enjoyed the Dustcarve. The event had attracted a lot of volunteers the excavation site being filled with tents housing more dragons than what they could hold. Pernis as the ambassador acted as the head of the duo reporting them as volunteers to excavation supervisors who booked them to one tent with diurnal dragon. That was their way to combat the lack of tents.

There were many dragons working when the Sun was up and the nocturnal duo often waited till sunset before starting to work. While they waited they chatted with their tent mates they telling what had happened during day and what they did for their work. One of those dragons was Lief, a young soon-to-be gemologist from the Pillar. He seemed interested about the gems that grew in Pernis' current home and Pernis invited him to visit one day. The young pearlcatcher promised to consider that.

Though Pernis had nicely high status he was still lesser worker at the site, not that his architect skills were much use there. Because of that Pernis and Kolari did mostly tunnel maintaining near the surface or just accepted donations from other nocturnal dragons. They never went too deep in the tunnels because they lacked authorization but both were fine with that Pernis having heard horror stories of the deep underground and he wasn't exactly excited to check if they were true or not.

The dragonkind dug for days until finally they found something exciting, a new dragon breed. Pernis was very excited but knew he had to maintain himself he making sure Kolari did the same. The two weren't allowed to the tunnels, not that they tried, but both really wanted to see what the new dragons looked like. Eventually the new dragons arrived to the surface both Pernis and Kolari barely holding together as they saw the obelisks being escorted out. They saw the new dragons leave with the dragons that had escorted them out and Kolari wondered if they were allowed to adopt one too. Pernis asked a higher-up who said there were probably enough for them too, but not yet.

During the following nights Kolari helped to keep the tunnels stable with the amount of dragons that walked back and forth, and the obelisks weren't small. Pernis was also there helping Kolari to notice parts that needed fixing and he also made sure she remembered to behave. They greeted every dragon that walked past them every obelisk asking them to be careful down there Kolari being sure they were fine. Pernis was more nervous. Eventually, days after the first obelisks had awoken, the supervisor came to inform that Pernis and Kolari were allowed to go to the cavern down below to look after the obelisks that had yet to awake. Kolari was excited, Pernis excited and nervous.

The cavern in which the obelisks had been created was massive, Pernis could barely see the other end. There were few other dragons looking after the few statues that remained Pernis barely able to understand how the statues turned to dragons. Eventually they heard an obelisk cracking their stone shell open Kolari rushing to meet the new dragon. Pernis hoped the young dragon didn't mind Kolari's teasing she being on fire. She had introduced both herself and Pernis to the new dragon before Pernis even reached them. The obelisk introduced himself as Pascal following that with the warning every obelisk had said: get out of the caves. Kolari didn't seem nervous and suggested they got to the surface since more dragons had come to look after the remaining stone obelisks.

Kolari was talking non-stop as they walked to the surface where the Sun was yet to rise. At the surface Pernis flew to report what the situation in the cavern had been and told they would probably return home soon enough. The supervisor noted what Pernis told and gave them permission to leave. Dragons had been leaving since the obelisks had came to be and in the tent in which Pernis and Kolari had lived only one other dragon remained when there had originally been three diurnal dragons. Pernis and Kolari decided to take a short nap before heading back home Pascal promising to wake them up by midday.

Pascal woke the two up around midday Pernis starting to gather their few tools in now totally empty tent while Kolari asked how Pascal's first morning had been. They left the tent where it had been Pernis informing that they were no longer using it the supervisor marking the tent empty and ready to be packed. Pernis then flew after the two bigger dragons and they started to make their way towards the Isles. However, Kolari noticed something bothering Pascal he eventually saying he wanted to do some exploring. Kolari was immediately supporting the idea but Pascal seemed conflicted as his duty was to protect the clan Kolari assuring their clan would be fine.

Pernis did listen the conversation closely mostly because he had no time to reply. He though eventually managed to say he supported Kolari with that Pascal should follow his heart. He suggested that he followed the holiday cycle which would lead him the their clan soon enough. That would cause him to miss the House Cup but it would come back next year. After some back and forth Pascal decided to do as the two older dragons suggested Pernis sharing some travel tips with the younger dragon while Kolari gave him some money. The two told they'd be waiting Pascal in September after which they went their separated ways.

Back at home the clan had heard about the obelisks and asked why the duo had not brought one with them. Kolari, who still had energy left, was fast to explain what the situation was and the clan seemed to understand. Pernis flew to Rosalin who explained what the clan had managed to do while the two had been gone. They were in schedule and Pernis went to sleep he feeling tired for having been awake since midday. After that he joined the lair project it eventually being finished over a year after it started just before the House Cup thanks to the help they got from outside.

Traits

Pernis is an earth spiral with brownish red body with darker lines covering his back and sides and paler redish stripes decorating sides of his belly, purple wings with darker and paler stripes covering them from base to tip and pale brown lines going down his back and sides, decorating edges of his wings and filling bottoms of his hands and legs. He has forked horns that are paler when going behind his head and darker, a bit reddish when turning back front like ram horns. He also has brown stone like tattoos all across his body and wings as vague style statement. He has very small ears and thick and dry skin on his arms and legs. Pernis' eyes were originally generic dark brown but after having had his magic drained they turned into paler tan color seemingly never returning to their original shade.

Pernis is an earth ambassador and because of that he often carries the emblem, tome and halo he earned thanks to his dedications for building but excluding the emblem he doesn’t wear those unless needed. Along with those he wears a lot of brown leather including coat, boots, gloves, tail and wing covers all used to protect him from flying sand in Dragonhome when he travels there. Along with those he had brown leather satchel where he carries his snacks and other stuff, brown fedora and amber shades which protect his sensitive eyes from bright light or sand. He also has ivory scarf to keep him warm if it happens to get cold out in the open.

Pernis has very bright and clear femininely kind of voice and when he is calm he is easy to understand. However, when he gets excited he starts to rapid fire words out of his mouth having barely figured out what he is trying to say which makes him very hard dragon to understand. He has strong Danish accent.

Small pile of brown petals.

Pernis is pretty much an earth dragon with a great love for building and designing monuments. He loves all kinds of buildings and considers well designed structures with great architecture to be way more beautiful than scenery without any monuments. He though also has eye for coexistence of nature and dragonmade structures and would find environment without anything natural as bland as environment without any structures. He enjoys that balance and puts a lot of effort into making sure that his environment plans accomplish that.

Pernis is kind and polite dragon who is easy to get along with but his focus isn’t the best. If he noticed something interesting or new he may drop everything and go examine that. When something steals his attention it is near impossible to get it back as when Pernis reaches flow state he stops hearing and seeing anything else than the target of his attention. That is quite funny when taken into count that he enjoys projects with a lot of dragons joining yet he doesn’t notice them majority of the time being more into the work than his companions.

Pernis has two familiar assistants, a renegade aviar Buzzard and spirit of earth Vuohi. With Vuohi Pernis has a bit like master-servant relationship the spirit demanding Pernis’ dedication through telepathy acting as his mount when travelling through Dragonhome while turning into assistant when at the Pillar. Vuohi never exits the earth domain if there is no dire emergency and in that sense is similar to Buzzard who always remains in the lair helping Pernis with his work. He is less demanding than Vuohi and talks broken Dragonian instead of using telepathy to communicate. His relationship with Pernis is more student or assistant like and Pernis likes to talk with him if he has something he needs to get out of his chest. Vuohi is a bit too serious for that.

Small pile of brown petals.

Pernis is more of an architect than a mage but he has learned spells to manipulate earth and has specialized to manipulate magical rising and floating plains of the Focal Point. He can create those as well as infuse separated islands back into the ground and lower steps. He doesn’t use that magic that much knowing it to be very tiring with the ground fighting back but if needed he can pull that off with very little setbacks otherwise. He could probably learn other earth manipulating spells but haven’t seen them needed and has focused on designing the clan environment. He does that by drawing and is decent with that.
