Biography
IMPERIA The Chosen One |
The memories of her past were blurry, like the smear of a sunrise on some faraway horizon. She watched the sun reverently, each and every morning. Its daily return was a blessed sight after so many years in darkness. If a dragon knew where to look, the slender figure of a metallic-winged dragoness could be seen on the edge of a cliff, facing east, gazing at the brilliant sun. After each sunrise, Imperia returned to the dimmer light of the cave she resided in. She ventured deeper and deeper into the mountain, her path lit by the luminescent crystals that had long ago embedded themselves in the walls and ceiling. Some of the yellow crystals hung down, like stalactites, casting a glow even in the darkest crevices of the tunnel. She came to the end of a long hallway, as she did every morning. In front of her was a curious sight: a stone altar. A simple slab of stone guarded by the skeleton of an enormous dragon. Imperia knelt in front of the altar and whispered, for the thousandth time, of the shadows she had seen. She spoke of fear and stars and ebony midnight. She told of hopelessness, of war, of the faded flashes she sometimes saw. She recounted the searing pain of the dark scar being carved over her eye, a scar given to her by someone she knew, yet couldn't remember. She poured her heart out to the Lightweaver. She begged to be set free. She prayed, once again, to a goddess who would never answer. |
