 strange, exuberant, and oddly ferocious, Proteus lived most of his life in the wilds of Sornieth. Found as a lost egg by a Lightning clan, he was taken in and raised but was 'accidentally' left behind when, as he grew up, his odd personality came to light. His knowledge of other dragons is uncanny, and he tells those who question it that he's just very good at reading the behaviour of others, He went through Lightning clans like water, always slipping in, learning, and then leaving. He formed no serious bonds, and though he found he had a number of children, none ever reached out to him . In one such Lightning clan, making his way as a fighter-for-hire, he met Uli- the serious but non-judgmental Mirror who Proteus immediately attached himself to. Although he has loved her far longer than she's even been friends with him, he knows that one day she'll turn to him and he won't just be her friend anymore. he's become an integral part of the clan in his time here - Uli is, naturally, his closest companion, but he has grown himself a social circle that includes he and Uli's trainee/protege/partner Sonvlek, and his new other confidants, Mulder, Scully, Filbert, Halloweve, and Nightmarch (the only dragons Proteus has ever told about his....extra ability aside from Uli). The group is growing faster than Proteus has ever believed, and he's become more open about his abilities in an effort to continue discovering others (Halloweve and Nightmarch's abilities and bond are a point of deep interest to him, as are Mulder and Scully and their familiars' telepathic connections.)
