"I know I have a heart because I feel it beating."

The cards were splayed out in front of her. Her destiny, laying before her as she has told others before- and she ignored it completely. Mistral may have been a dedicated teller of prophecies, hell, more than the most devout of the Tidelord's oracles, but even she was afraid of the future. Her future, to be precise.

She was a child, and one only capable of the smallest feats; her ice-encased egg had drifted from the main nest and towards a group of two others, who had found themselves in the same situation and had lived travelling from group to group. Chisel and Petrichor- their names, which she held in her heart as fondly as her own- had taught her what they knew about Sornieth and its distinct arts, of how dragons devoted to each flight were normally held to certain standards that in her childish mindset were deemed arbitrary. Mistral hadn't seen the future then, and hadn't observed the ways of the world in a way that would change that view.

The way that seemingly irredeemable, despicable folk could genuinely be forgiven and change their lives for the better; the way that even the kindest held the darkest secrets, and live their lives falling into the despair which so often made villains out of heroes. That was what inspired her to take up the art of fortune telling, for one temporary member of their little company had learned it from her home clan's dear leader, though, she doubted the legitimacy of this claim often- who would actually have a connection to a god who abandoned their dragons? Regardless, as she took lessons and observed the street-tellers, she gradually grew to become comfortable with the concept, and found herself at the mercy of the fates as she described to others the most beautiful and the most dire highlights of their lives.

It earned her quite a few nicknames- All-Knowing, Destiny, and Illusionary, just to name a few- but the one that stuck the most was 'heartless'. She was hardly heartless for telling the truth, but that was what others thought of her blunt mannerisms when it came to such a drastic thing as a fortune, and while she barely even entertained the thought, it did bring her to another teller who wanted to see if she really was fated to be as awful as the stories she occasionally found necessary to tell potentially dangerous dragons. Mistral looked upon the shining gold cards with fear and anger, tapping her claws on the small wooden table and sighing.

When she glanced back, she found her two best friends looking back, with a reassuring smile. No matter what happened, no matter what destiny they had in store, they would be at her side, and maybe that was all she needed in the end. Not a dubious tale of the unknown, not others' doubts of her work, her art- but a helping hand in life.

The Wildclaw stood up from the table and turned towards her friends without looking back. They were free from fate, and there would be no one who could hurt them, as long as they were friends. Mistral smiled, a toothy grin, and walked with her two best friends, laughing the way away while the sun rained down its warmth.
