I can see your whole history in your eyes. You were born with nothing. So you've had to struggle and connive and claw your way to power. But true power, the divine right to rule, is something you're born with. The truth is: they don't know which one of us is going to be sitting down on that throne, and which of us is going to be bowing down. But I know, and you know.

Azula is a dragon with a chip on her shoulder. Azula was born in a different clan, but ended up stuck in the same old tavern, drinking foul ale after foul ale. Interested dragons get sent away with a swipe and a hiss before she settles back into staring at the dregs of her alcohol. Every day she trains, trying to get stronger. She learns ways of cheating, dirty tactics meant to drive the opponent to the ground. She learns about the poisons perfect for driving a foe insane. She hunts in the jungle around the swamp, training against some of the most dangerous foes in the Viridian Labyrinth. She learns how to navigate the mazes and avoid getting captured by beastclan and dragon traps. Every night she drinks, to wash the pain off from the day’s exercises. But she isn’t training to improve herself. She isn’t training for a mercenary’s hit. She’s training herself, so she can kill the leader, Pyre. Pyre is her ancestor; many many many lines separate the two dragons. She is old, and becoming frail, yet she is still unbeatable. This leaves Azula in a permanent foul mood. She doesn’t make friends, for they are useless to her. She doesn’t realise the dragons she are making enemies of, will be the same dragons she commands if she ever takes over Pyre’s role. Ursa, the other leader, knows this, and while she trains Azula, she silently sabotages her. Azula’s poisons are weaker than the tavern-keeper’s drinks, and her traps catch little more than rabbits. Ursa cannot control Azula’s strength, but she can control the outcomes of the constant squabbles. Without Ursa’s help, Pyre may just fail. But the two wildclaw’s don’t know or realise this, and so they continue to fight.

An abandoned daughter. Her Ancestor, blessed be her name, was a legendary figure. And yet she had no children. Her firstborn, heir of a forgotten legacy, had been sent far away, erased from the clan. That daughter had even less of a claim. Another child, another mother, another daughter. Soon the last carrier of a legendary legacy was born to a sanguine clan. Known for their ability to use hidden words, the jaded mercenary remembered the stories passed down, of an ancient dragon named Pyre, conqurer of the plaguelands. Rumours had it that she was still alive. Decrepid, jaded, and weak, but still alive. It was time she took back her legacy.

A wildclaw stares at a grinning pearlcatcher. Bones peek through the pearlcatcher's skin, as blood drips down the windclaw's palm. Dripping onto a slip of paper, the pearlcatcher spits on it, before tucking it into a hidden pocket. The wildclaw waits, suspicious, but the pearlcatcher beckons her to go. The process was simple, devastatingly so. And yet, with the donation of a few drops of blood and a whispered name, the wildclaw had given over her most precious possession.... her name.

Sheathing her sword, the wildclaw turned to face the elder. Staring into a familiar, yet distant face, Azula had finally met her ancestor. Pyre, the legendary Pyre. Staring back at her diluted bloodline, Pyre sneered, pulling her wings tighter, as if to turn away. There was a time when the very mention of her name caused forced a chilled reverence, but it seemed her name no longer had that spell upon its vitims. Another had come to try and make her claim, but as old and frail as Pyre had become, she was not so weak as to rely on an exiled daughter's spawn. And yet the wildclaw moved to match her. The threat to her position riled the dusty wildclaw up; old blood began to flow through her veins again. The child wanted to fight. Oh, how misfortunate she was. At the back stood a pearlcatcher, bones peeking out of her skin.a coin danced between her hands; the heads side revealed an old red wildclaw, a queen. In front of her, an old queen, defeated by none, gained the upper hand. A slice to the throat, quickly avoided and retaliated with a slash. A tackle, with the wildclaw's powerful legs gouging out muscle. The coin turned in her hands, revealing a scarred brown dragon. Azula, the mercenary. Diluted blood of the queen, and a nasty opponent. Extra-long claws reached further, catching the skin around the eyes an ripping. Blood filled the queen's vision, causing her to careen. A flip, and the queen was on top again. A roll across the knuckles, and the mercenary had pushed the queen off. A glint, and they were fighting again. A wave, and they had seperated, circling each other. The queen was powerful, but years of council attendance had made her skin frail, and it split easily. The loss of blood was causing her to stagger. The mercenary was equally as hurt, with deep wounds resulting in loss of limb function. She favoured one leg. The queen saw this, and jumped straight into the mercenary's trap. As the two left together, Ursa tossed the coin.
