Experimental Art

Evalix is the first Pureblood Construct created beyond the secluded and secret workshop in the Clan of Singing Blood. He is something of an anomaly in that way. His father could recall little about the details of his own creation, he had been stolen away when very new by a rival artisan. He managed to glean some information from the notes of his Tormentor, and from slipped details in letters sent to and from the Scarred Wasteland where he had been from.

Pythagoras had wanted to explore himself, and understand his own contentious origins, so with his mate's help he made a few experimental attempts at recreating Kupokana's artistry. These were, for the most part, merely expressive sculptures of various bony eggshells. Until one hatched...

Pureblood Construct

Evalix's egg was created by filling a shell of specially treated bone with Pythagoras's blood. This shell had been carved with patterns of wild creatures from the deep oceans. The shell was then sealed and invigorated with a spark of energy taken from Haraholdara, channeled through her Pearl. Pythagoras had taken to crafting these eggs with a sense of ritual and had never expected one to hatch.
When the egg did hatch, the bone shell was incorporated into the new dragon's body, becoming the heavy defensive plates which fortify his back, legs, and skull, as well as his claws and teeth. The result was the stunning sanguine guardian, Evalix. A dragon of animated blood with impenetrable bony plates to protect his graceful, flowing body.

Singing Blood

There was some brief panic and concern, as the dragons of the Noli Timere Carnival had an alliance with the Clan of Singing Blood, and there was some fear that they might be accused of stealing secrets from their Queen. Besides that, Evalix was a dragon like no other they had reared, besides Pythagoras, whose situation and condition was far from ideal.

Eventually, they sent word to their allies of the occurrence and Evalix's birth. The Queen agreed to offer forgiveness for the accident if they returned Evalix to the care of his grandparents so that they and her own artisans could improve their understanding of the strange vital constructs and strive for greater perfection.

Evalix was an astonishingly perfect specimen, far beyond that which had been before crafted or encountered by the Queen's artisans. When he was returned to his new home, he was loved and cared for and educated, and in turn, provided the necessary insights for even greater creations and the perfection Wahydra, Kupokana and Egeria's final project for their Queen. He was proud of all which he had been able to create and satisfied with all he had done in the Clan of Singing Blood.

Wanderer from Tjugo Clan

Evalix still had more he wished to see and do and find. There was greater learning and inspiration to be found beyond the ancient stone walls of the Scarwind Keep, which were wound around by great tendril roots which rose from around the Wyrmwound, coiled around the crumbling towers, and then meandered like rivers across the Plaguebringer's territory. He determined that he would follow these to whatever ends they might lead him.

He followed this path to a fledgling plague clan on the edge of the Wandering Contagion. Here he was welcomed as a warrior and protector, but it wasn't long before Evalix knew that his stay was only to be a short one. Though he lent them his strength and even the favor of two nestfuls of strong guardians, he stayed behind when the clan left for the Southern Icefields.

He then resumed his journey, traveling far and long across Sornieth. He stayed for awhile with a clan in Ashfall, but left before they migrated to Shadow's darkened forest. His true home was not with them. He has had many mates along his journey. Banshee, Seco, and Lillyana, though found lasting love with none of them. So he will keep up his search, for a home and a purpose.

On his previous journeys, he had traversed the Sea of A Thousand Currents en route to the Ashfall Wastes from the Scarred Wasteland. Though strongly tied to the water through his means of creation, as well as the carvings adorning his armor, he found directly interacting with the water a tad uncomfortable. Not to the extent of the shattered constructs from the Clan of Singing Blood, but enough to plan a different route when he planned to return to the lands of his youth. The shortest route was directly through the Windswept Plateau.

And so he found himself having crossed the channel into Wind Territory, and among the myriad of travelers doing the same. Immediately across the border was a sprawling port city, Caesura by name. While he would be reluctant to admit it, the sheer complexity of the city itself was alluring. Pennants tied between buildings snapped in the breeze, depicting the various flight symbols. Hatchlings laughed as they ran through parks, kites flying above them or pinwheels whirring. Sailors heaved crates from massive air ships, and merchants displayed their wares. The amount of stimulus continued to bombard his senses, to distraction of his original journey and destination. He padded numbly down streets, soaking in all of the new experiences…. Until a door very sharply smacked him in the face! Both stunned and startled, he ended up in a tangled heap as his feet attempted to move faster than his mind. He slowly shook his head, trying to clear away the stars that swam there... only to feel something out of place!

“Oh my goodness, I am so sorry! I didn’t see you there friend! I hope I didn- Oh my gosh, your face! I didn’t mean- I mean, I will get you help!” A very flustered tundra quickly darted off down a side alley, as Evalix sat recovering. Within moments it seemed (or maybe his sense of time was skewed by the crack to the head?), she had returned, a large pink guardian with her. “Please, is there anything you can do for him? I didn’t mean to- I guess I should have known to be more careful with the door, but- Oh! I am sorry!” The guardian gave a deep sigh.

“Please just leave it to me. I will get him shaped up in a moment.” She gently stepped forward to the now-curious Evalix. “I am an emergency medical practitioner. Can you please tell me your name?”

“Ee-a-lick.” He was startled by the sound of his own voice. He played with his jaw, not feeling anything particularly painful, but dismayed to feel pieces shifting. The look on the guardian’s face was enough to tell him all he needed.

“That jaw is most definitely broken, in at least one if not two or more places. It will need set immediately.” She gently approached him, her claws gingerly reaching for his face. Almost instantly, he could feel his body condensing, moving away from her touch. He wasn’t afraid of intimacy, and he didn’t really feel pain; the sudden closeness of her just startled him. She pulled back, perplexed by his body structure as it returned to its normal draconic shape. “Well…. It seems we may need a little more special care in this regard.” She cocked her head to the side. “I admittedly haven’t ever seen anyone like you before, but I may have an idea of who can help.”

She stood up, and started to walk a few paces before looking back over her shoulder. “Can you walk?” Evalix merely nodded, not sure his broken jaw would allow him to properly say the words. She led him down several streets, past an inn, a pub, a few small parks and gardens, lots of colorful stands, and a post office. Eventually, she stopped outside a small, cheerful-looking shop. The sign proclaimed it as ‘Curated Curiosities- Enchantments and Items for Ease of Life’. His brow furrowed at the thought. Did this guardian just see him as a thing to be repaired? She didn’t leave him much time to grouse at the idea, as she stepped into the shop. Inside was just as well-lit and neat as the exterior led you to believe. Tea sets covered the walls, along with dishes and serving utensils of all types. Smooth, polished river rocks sat on a display.

Evalix wasn’t given long to soak it all in before a- dare he even think it?- beautiful, graceful fae entered from a back doorway. “Why, hello! What can I do for you today?” Her frills sparkled in chips of amethyst and garnet as they rippled out in a welcoming way. He attempted to say that he loved her shop, but it came out in a garbled mess, embarrassingly. The guardian glanced at him in concern, before turning back to their crystalline hostess.

“I know that it isn’t your normal area of specialty, but he has a broken jaw, and it looks more akin to your school of magic than to my traditional bone setting. Would you mind taking a look?” The fae smiled gently, and if Evalix’s heart wasn’t already made of blood, he is darn well sure it would have melted. She fluttered over to sit on the river rock display, just below his head. He strained, trying to see her expression as she gently reached up for his face. He felt his entire being quiver as her claws gently traced the carvings on his carapace, and was dismayed when the guardian piped up with, “He seems to have an aversion to touching. Just a bystander’s observation.” The fae respectfully dipped her head, taking a step back.

“My apologies for the intrusion. The breaks look clean. I agree, it is not something I am accustomed to seeing or working with, but I may be able to help.” She fluttered back through the doorway, and returned with a small pot and brush. Her shimmering purple eyes looked up into his own, and he felt like he never wanted to see anything else for the rest of his life. “I will need to touch the affected areas to repair them, unfortunately. Do I have your permission?” Evalix was all too enthusiastic to nod, and the slight touch of the fae was all that was required to make his great head grow still. “Easy now. Just a moment please.” She disappeared beneath his chin once more, and after a few moments, he heard her murmuring under her breath, and a warmth filled his head. As it faded, she reappeared, brush still in her claws. “The break has been sealed, but unfortunately, I was unable to save a few of the lovely carvings. I am afraid that I am not an expert in such things. Hopefully, any pain should be gone and full mobility of your jaw should be restored.

“Th-thank you.” His tongue tripped a small bit over the slight ridge in his armor plates, but otherwise, it felt fine. “I appreciate your work.” He dipped his head to her, and her smile set off fireworks in his heart.

“Well, it seems the emergency is past now. Thank you for your help, Erinys.” The pink guardian laid a small bit of gold on the counter, and then looked expectantly at Evalix. He startled, realizing she expected him to pay for the help. But he didn’t have any treasure! He looked sheepishly at the pink guardian, who rolled her eyes. “Erinys, I don’t suppose that you have need of an assistant at your shop? It seems this traveler is short on funds.”

She gave a laugh that made his knees week. “I would be happy to have him stay on to work off the enchantment fee.” She looked up at him, and he instantly knew that there was nowhere in Sornieth he would rather be, than working here with her. Who would have thought that ever in his life, he would be silently thanking the gods that he had been hit in the face, and so couldn’t go back to the Plaguelands?
