Biography

This Bio is mostly an incomplete collection of odds and ends.

This dragon was won as a grand prize in a Brightshine Bakery (BSJ 2018) writing and dragon scry/outfitting/lore contest centered around him. The lore/story parts of those entries have been formatted as his bio.

Also of note: My entire top row nests together - the two boys from the stories below pairing off over one nest and the girl and enby one pairing off over the other. All four function as a found family though and treat all of the hatchlings as their own (to the point sometimes they may not realize who nested which eggs between them). Basically all hatchlings on Minuialrin, Oronte, Solarys, and Amaurea's lists have four loving and doting queer parents (assuming you want to use their actual hatchling lore which I will format some day for bios).

Finally, I did not create the Dawnlight Corona subspecies and their lore, I just couldn't resist using it when I realized he could be turned into a Light flight subspecies gen1.

Prompt: "Choose up to five pieces of apparel for the dragon and describe how the apparel reflects their personality and/or clan role!"

*Minuialrin…*

That’s how it started. Instead of a usual afternoon of soaking up every story Glittermom sent on sunshafts and in warm sunshine, she spoke directly. To him.

“Lightweaver?” He asked aloud, because, well...maybe it wasn’t her? Minuialrin didn’t feel important enough for it to be her.

Gentle laughter answered him, possibly imagined. *Your kind have been enjoying my stories for so long,* said the disembodied voice. *It’s a gift, being able to read the tales I weave within the light. Even the seeing is a gift. One all Dawnlight Coronas must temper with wisdom, and in that you’ve all done well. Perhaps too well. Wisdom is also in choosing which stories to tell and when, not in hiding them all away lest you make a mistake.*

Minuialrin ducked his head shyly. He’d always said much the same in his private thoughts, wondered about the unspoken rule among his subspecies kin to keep to themselves lest they spoil the future of others accidentally. It was so very hard sometimes to tell what was fiction among these stories, and what was prophecy that might cause troubles and bad blood.

*Yes,* the Lightweaver responded, as if eavesdropping on his thoughts. *You are one of those uniquely suited to taking on this task I’ve set you. But first, you need to look the part.*

Bright sunlight shot from the sky, so blinding Minuialrin had to close his already-glowing eyes against it. It swirled around him, soothing hot, not enough to burn, then gentle warmth. He could feel it easing his mind, heating his third eye, spreading up his wings and curling in his belly, twining over his tail.

*All of my chosen, bear the mark,
An emblem of light.

My little dawnlight corona, Minuialrin.
For one so aptly named,
A halo of light.

Stories are woven for sharing,
Connecting.
For my officiator,
Vestments made of pure light.

The very angels add their voices,
Inspiring song,
And their adornments flow through you,
Twining to the very tip of your tail,
A seraph’s bangle of light.

Until at last, the citrine,
Gem of the solar plexus,
Energy of will, intellect, clarity, and discipline,
Condensed in a gem of personal power,
Creativity and manifestation,
Belted, balanced with a flourish of the light.

And now you are ready.
Embrace the storytellers,
Share what you learn.*

The warmth of the Lightweaver enveloped him once more with an infusion of maternal love. Minuialrin was ready for his destiny now, ready to be one of the first Dawnlight Corona to seek beyond his own kind, to share in the companionship beyond, and learn, by trial and error, the appropriate time and place for every truth and every story.

And everyone had a story, didn’t they? Some had endless stories like the Lightweaver herself. The promise of those stories filled him with excitement as much as the sharing of his own, of the Lightweaver’s. With new confidence, he took to the skies, flying head-on toward his destiny.

The Book

Ensorcelled Volume

Wham!

As it turns out, destiny hurts sometimes. That's what Minuialrin would later reflect upon, at any rate. Right now...well, right now he was a little too busy tailspinning to the ground with whatever had flown straight into him out of nowhere. A bird, he thought, as it flapped in a wild struggle,
apparently more confused than he, since he wasn't trying to hold it captive.

A book, he finally realized. A winged book, how extraordinary! Books so often told stories as well as people. Reverently, he tried to right them both as well as truly hold the book in his claws, if only to prevent it from doing further harm to those beautiful wings or the splendid binding.

He hummed at it in coatl, finding the sound often comforted panicked creatures, all soothing words. Eventually, it seemed to resign itself to the capture and let him land in some pretty ruins, sun-dappled by the gold trees overgrowing the old structures.

Lovingly, he stroked the spine and gave it a little praise, asked if he could look at its pages.

The book...hesitated.

Minuialrin wasn't sure how he knew without any speech or even a facial expression, but he sensed it didn't want to open. It didn't want to be read.

It's embarrassed, he somehow knew.

"Come now, what's a gorgeous tome like you have to be embarrassed about? I've read all kinds of stories, some from the Lightweaver herself," he coaxed it. Was that his imagination, or had the cover around the embellished golden emblem turned faintly pink? "I love every story."

A few more moments of hesitation and finally, more shy than any dawnlight corona, it opened its pages to him.

He blinked at the title. A Comprehensive Guide to Preparing Liver and Onions.

So...not a story. "Oh," he said.

The pages fluttered as if in a sad sigh. As if it'd done this all before, it leafed through itself to show him, all 300 pages. All liver and onions. Poor little book.

As it began to close in reverse, something on page 195 caught his eye, flashing under the sunmotes. Golden script, ghosting under the mundane recipes.

"Wait!" He gasped the word. Then, remembering his manners he added, "Please? May I look closer?"

After a considering pause, the book left its pages wide open and waiting, allowing him to scoop it back up and carry it into a full shaft of sun.

"Why, you're bespelled, you poor thing! This isn't about liver and onions at all!" Only through the practice of reading Light's stories, did he see beyond the mundane facade. And the tales.... "Oh, your tales are breathtaking!"

The pages fluttered again, this time with excitement.

"You...you can read me!?" New words glowed on to the page. "No one...prove it, read these words out loud!" The bespelled tome could barely contain its own excitement as the dragon studied its pages. It dared to hope. Too long had it practically wasted away in silence, every word hidden in a most undignified fashion. Oh the stories it longed to tell!

"How fascinating," Minuialrin hummed as the book not only talked to him, but also told its own story, complete with third-person narration. He read the words aloud to it.

The book was so happy it had to dance and flutter about in obvious excitement before flying back into his short coatl arms, just long enough to hug it back. For it was, indeed, hugging him, wings draped gently over his shoulders.

It was the start of a beautiful friendship for them both and a fast bond. He hadn't even found a clan, but he'd already discovered the first of stories so desperate to be heard, and he, just as eager to discover every mystery and adventure within the pages.

15282.png

Writer's notes: I've always loved this companion and the Dawnlight Corona's ability to read light itself presented a perfect opportunity to undo the whole liver and onions thing, which is funny, but always kept me from using it for several lore-heavy, not-obsessed-with-liver-and-onions dragons. I also feel like the undignified curse is why it's so desperate to get away from potential readers.

Also, page 195 is signifcant. As of this post, the Ensorcelled Volume is #195 in the bestiary, unless I miscounted.

Brightshine Bakery's Coffeeshop AU

39570548_350.png
Oronte danced in the skies above the Brightshine Jubilee festival with its many stands of baked goods and collection of quaint little restaurants and coffeeshops. His was a rehearsed display, one of many for the festival goers to enjoy as they strolled and flew about.

His dance was just winding down when a wandering glint of gold caught his eye and a steady flap of six feathered wings. My book! He just barely kept to his flight patterns, having missed the old friend, but also, the book quite obviously followed someone new….

What a gorgeous coatl, he thought, just as the decorated creature looked up and yeah...Oronte probably showed off a little more under that gaze.

It must have worked, because the coatl was so busy staring he flew straight into an ivory column of the ruins spotted all over the festival. Oops. He seemed alright though and Oronte couldn’t help but smile amusedly as the coatl tossed him a panicked (panicked, but not pained) glance, cheeks a bright orange (obvious from even this height), and ducked into the nearest building.

Adorable. And he has my book. What a perfect excuse to make his acquaintance. Oronte finished out his aerial display and swooped into the same building, a coffee shop as it turned out, only fifteen minutes later. To his astonishment, he saw the slightly larger, gorgeous coatl pouring over the tome while munching on seafood pastries with some type of coffee off to the side.

It wasn’t that he was reading her words on liver and onions that struck him, but that he wore that cozy, distant expression people got while reading stories, not recipes.

Oronte put in his own order for a few fruit-filled pastries and a latte and then helped himself to the seat across from the other dragon.

The coatl looked up at his intrusion and froze adorably, blush creeping into his cheeks as he took Oronte in.

The skydancer's empathic sense kicked in, and he couldn’t help but smile at both the adorable shyness of the coatl and the note of mutual attraction.
Most adorable still, the coatl tried speaking first and only stuttered out some kind of nonsense hum. Granted, coatl spoke their own humming tongue, but Oronte was fairly certain that hadn’t actually been a word.

“Can you read that book?” He asked. “I mean, what it really says?”

The question clealry took the coatl off-guard, thoughts visibly flitting through his expression before he finally spoke. “Yes. I...how do you know--is it yours?”

15282.png

Oronte was too busy grinning at the confirmation. “She’s an old friend of mine, I knew she said something more than I could see. I could even sense her frustration, but I never could figure out the secret and then...she disappeared on me.”

The coatl’s expression shifted into guilt and Oronte hastily reassured him that he was overjoyed to find the little book so thoroughly content, elated even. “Would you...tell me what she says? Read me one of her stories?”

The coatl blushed again, nodding and Oronte grinned. They spent the afternoon like that, eventually retreating to one of the fluffy couches. Feeling brave, Oronte curled close, cozy. Ostensibly, to get a better look at the pages, and listened to Minuialrin voice the book, though that almost-snuggling move had caused the coatl to falter noticeably, heat in his cheeks again.

Oronte's smile only grew, knowing through his empathic sense that the other dragon didn’t at all mind it, despite the butterflies. Their shared reading turned into shared personal stories. Oronte learned about Dawnlight Coronas and in exchange told Minuialrin about his own subspecies, the Brightwings.

When the coatl began talking about his quest, Oronte perked up. “You should come home with me - I mean, to my clan not...well...both, if you like? I think it’s fate," he said, giving the other dragon another warm smile.

minuialrin-skinny-book-post.png
Minuialrin looked as if he basked in it, which only delighted Oronte all the more.

“Not just because I like you and I’d miss my book, my entire clan is filled with entertainers, particularly of the storytelling variety. I mean most light clans are filled with scholars and book collectors, scroll hoarders, but stories are really what we love most in Delari Sylvae. You’re talking about sharing, hearing and telling, we have at least six storycatchers alone, our leader is a writer. We’re obsessed,” he finished with a sideways smile.

“I think…” the coatl hummed, “You had me at your clan,” and then ducked his head shyly.

Oronte’s heart fluttered a little, not the first time since they’d gotten cozy together. He really could fly another round if he wasn’t so comfortable.

Empathically picking up on some unspoken desire, the excitement slipped into an all-over warmth. Not wasting another moment, Oronte leaned in and nuzzled, tentative, in case it was too much for Minuialrin.

With a heart-singing little hum, the coatl nuzzled back. “I never dreamed….” he said, but didn’t finish, only curled in closer as they both turned their attention back on the happily ruffling book. After only a short pause, Minuilarin took her back in hand and began reading yet another of her stories to Oronte and he drifted on that soft-spoken hum and the daydreams it conjured. Perhaps it was sudden, but it felt more like fate, played out in that romantic little coffee shop.

Writer's notes: The coffee shop AU, it was totally necessary. Also, I decided it would be gay because pride month. Also also, I'm secretly pretending Soulmate AU/First word/name written on skin is hidden away in their runes as well.

Two other actual subspecies are mentioned here. Brightwings and Storycatchers, linked for credit. The little Dawnlight Corona will be right at home in my clan and the his ability to read stories in the light, prophetic or no, will make him valuable, as perhaps only Eydís has a similar ability and she listens more than she speaks. Delari Sylvae will be most pleased for a new, unique source of storytelling.

Brightshine Bakery: The Deja AU

9OZT2Vl.png
minuialrin-skinny-book-post.png

Despite knowing the light sometimes showed him true, future stories, rather than legends and mere fictions, somehow, as Minuialrin wandered into the Brightshine festivities, he really hadn’t expected he'd already foreseen his own Friday’s events. It looked different from this vantage point. In yesterday’s tale, he’d flown high with Oronte and now he looked up. There he is! He’s real….

And so beautiful, even more beautiful in person.

Wham! He really should have remembered that column. Ow. His cheeks burned thoroughly as he cast an embarrassed glance upward, saw the amused smile, and ducked inside the Brightshine Bakery for a breather.

He ordered his seafood sweets and waited, nervous despite the vision, but also eager for what they’d ended with. This was when discipline and timing came into play, he couldn’t just blurt what he’d seen and immediately snuggle in like they’d done by the time the vision had blurred into a lovely nap.

How had it started? What they said? He dwelled on it while he waited, a little nervous to make a mistake and throw everything off.

Then Oronte sat across from him. Quite unfairly glowing from the exertion of his recent aerial displays. Lightweaver help me he’s much better in person.

Minuialrin opened his mouth and hummed nonsense. He spoke first, not me.

Oronte gave him an amused smile that melted his heart, almost affectionate already, even though surely he hadn’t also foreseen this?

He somehow stumbled through something close enough to what they’d done before, he thought. The stories he read Oronte were even better this time around. Done in real time, they stretched out a few hours where the vision had only glossed over this part before.

“Do you see your own future sometimes?” Oronte asked lazily after they’d again settled on a little couch in the bakery café. Ironically, yesterday’s vision had ended before that question.

Judging it safe enough to admit now that they were once again cozy, Minuialrin nonetheless blushed as he nodded. “I dreamt of today while watching sunmotes. You’re even prettier in person.” He ducked his head shyly. “I was afraid to say in case it put you off, or messed it all up, that kind of foresight and how knowing can change it is why my kind tend to keep to themselves.”

Oronte laughed, gentle and warm. “I somehow doubt you could have chased me off by accident, but I guess that explains why I sensed such familiarity from you, and perhaps even this immediate connection. Is there anything else you know about us?”

Shyly, Minuialrin nodded. “I can read my name in your runes...using the Corona gift.”

“Truly?” Oronte lifted his head from Minuialrin’s shoulder enough to glance at his runes. “Which ones?”

With a little maneuvering around each other, repositioning, Minuialrin was finally able to trace his name in the runes. “And this symbol,” he traced another after, “Means fate. I hadn’t noticed it in the vision, only after we curled up today.”

“And do you suppose mine is written on yours?”

Minuialrin shrugged a little. “I can’t see all of them, but I’ve heard stories, I can only assume it’s true. The light has told me stories about soulmate runes, people fated in love with their names written on each other. I actually can’t decode all the runes yet, I’m still working on that, it’s not quite the same as reading the light itself.”
788OsA4.png
“It certainly explains our fast connection.” Oronte ruffled a wing and then nuzzled Minuialrin’s claw affectionately where it still traced the runes of his name. “I feel like I’m having the best dream I’ve ever had.”

With a hum of agreement, Minuialrin picked up his mug from the nearby table and took a sip.

The action prompted Oronte to wiggle around and begin tracing Minuialrin’s runes.

It tickled. So much so Minuialrin almost spilled his coffee when he squirmed.

“Sorry,” Oronte gave him a guilty smile, “But I think these are it.” He pressed a little more firmly, just so it wouldn’t tickle, along the back of Minuialrin’s right shoulder blade. The soft vestments of pure light had nearly hidden it until now. “It looks familiar somehow, stands out more.”

Minuialrin gave him a soft smile. “Then it probably is.”

Oronte’s own smile quirked in one corner as if up to secret mischief, but he only nuzzled comfortably back in.

“I can’t believe I’ve already found a clan and the perfect companions,” Minuilarin mused. “I’ve longed for someone, anyone for so long now - a family. I’d say I never dreamed I’d find someone like you, except I did,” he laughed. “Yesterday.”
39570548_350.png

Oronte laughed too. “Timing is everything.”

By way of agreement, Minuialrin stole another affectionate nuzzle. Festivals were supposed to be moments of busy entertainment and events. He found the relaxed, romantic pacing of this one suited him just fine. More than fine.

Love in a coffeeshop.

The book fluttered happily, nestled in Minuialrin’s warm and airy-soft vestments. Perfect. Minuialrin hummed, more content than he’d ever been.

XLuYPiZ.png

Writer’s notes: Yeah, turns out yesterday’s story was more suitable for today’s prompt and someone gave me a heads up, which I appreciate, but I was way too tired to write something new in just a few hours and submit the yesterday's coffeeshop story today.

I wracked my brain for a bit for today’s as a result because I didn’t want to interrupt the overall narrative. A friend suggested I just write the same scene from the grand prize dragon’s pov this time.

Then, with a flash of amusement I realized how appropriate it was that I wrote the Brightshine Bakery entry a day early, starring a prophetic subspecies. I decided to put that into play for today’s version of the scene. Then, for the halibut, I threw in the soulmate AU I mentioned at the end of yesterday’s scene.

And finally, I’ve been trying to only use my own work or official site art, but I decided to fudge that for actual Bakery graphics, credit for those goes to the awesome Lichtdrache and they all link to the main hub.

"Minuialrin I have booped before. So luminous! I love the look. Didn't realize he was a Gen1, as it isn't something that matters to me, but bonus points for that, since it means you probably did ALL the work making him look so good, not only the outfit! "Gave Pathenia and Remi a boop, had already booped Minuialrin in a previous crawl, but I expect to see him again with brightshine upcoming! :D Such a lovely bright aesthetic on Parthenia, beautiful art, an excellent outfit, perfect for her theme! "!!!! Okay I love Minuialrin. It's kind of late in my timezone and I was going to apologise for not having time to read his bio buuuuut I started and then I was sucked in. (Please don't apologise, I enjoyed every word immensely!) I adore soulmate stories, you have no idea how much, and Minuialrin's meeting with Oronte hits all the right cute-and-funny buttons for me ^-^ Using the runes for the Soulmate's-Name-On-You trope is an excellent and inspired thought, I 100% approve. (And I love that you told it twice!!) However, my favourite thing is how you've handled the Ensorcelled Volume - that is so clever, and such a great use of a subspecies power, and I just love it. The book hug at the endddd! :D Also to compliment your actual dragon (lol) he is so bright and cheerful-looking, I can imagine he has a really soothing voice and I wish I could listen to him reading one of Octavo's stories."

- Lundlaeva

"I really enjoy Minuialrin, even his name is so unique! I love the expansion you did with his lore and found family, I think that it is such a cute and endearing fact about him! And his personality really shines throughout his bio, when he is meeting his little companion familiar and him meeting Oronte, AND having Oronte's point of view when they meet.. I really loved it! It was soooo cute and sweet and it played out so wonderfully. There is so much depth and cleverness in your writing that I really enjoy, it certainly holds your voice and your dragons' personalities shine through so well!! The idea that they're soulmates and it's written in their runes that they were born with... Ahh I am so soft for soulmates, romantically, platonically, any kind, it's such an amazingly beautiful troupe. Truly lovely writing, Minuialrin and Oronte have a lovely story together, thank you for sharing!"

- MiniPandaBuns

"I simply adore all three of yours this week, and all three of them are doing something with their look that I tend to be a bit finicky about!!

Minuialrin is SO striking—truly a miniature sun of a dragon. The "Dawnbreaker" festival accent is one I've got in my own collection but have struggled to use; I kept feeling like it was looking too flat on my dragons (maybe because of how universally bright the colors are?). Clearly that accent just needs a dragon who can keep up with its glow, and Minuialrin's glowing eyes and emblem are so perfect for that. He's just a really great example of a dragon managing to wear really high-impact outfit components without getting overwhelmed!"
(From Saronai's Star Exchange Themes)
- Tuberose

"The gold and the whites!!!! The lore is so cool!!!!!!!! Even the orange accents!!!! Hes so cool and well put together!!!! The light theming is so well done!!!"
(From Star Lighting Raffle 2024)
- CANTDANCEFLYNN

"Okay I might be biased because he reminds me of my own light rep, but what a glorious and stunning Coatl! I love Metals but I feel like I rarely see Metals Iridescent, and the way that the glowing eyes work with the Light fest apparel makes me want to take notes for dressing my own bright dragons. I didn't even realize he was a gen 1 but those were some gems well-spent!"
