Dragon Log

She is having so much fun playing, she hasn't even thought of a name. Something with "spell," perhaps, or "dream". Or maybe "weaver"? Oh, well, she'll think of one. In the meantime, look at that sparkly magic!

7-7-14: The advent of fast-approaching motherhood has caused her to realize she needs to grow up a little...she can not, after all, expect her hatchlings to call her "hey, you!" After careful thought, chasing arcane energy, a weighing of all options, chasing arcane energy, an examination of her favorite parts of her "job," and of course, chasing arcane energy, she decided on a name that just seemed to fit.

9-15-14: Her Runic Bat familiar has Awakened! She is thrilled at his newfound enthusiasm for playing with magic--er, contributing to the lair--and looks forward to many nights of happy experiments...

9-25-14: The Starfall Celebration is always her favorite holiday, and this year she has come home with something extra special: Her very own ball of Arcane energy to play with! The Companion Comet is an excellent addition to her collection, and her Runic Bat seems to think so, too.

11-23-14: As a reward for good behavior--they hadn't managed to blow anything up for an entire week, after all--Spellweaver and Runemaster were allowed to attend the Rockbreaker's Ceremony this year. This...might have been a mistake...

Spellweaver darted through the Festival Grounds, trying to keep up with her mate, who was wandering towards a tent that looked like it contained odd looking rocks... as she moved, she caught sight of something sparkling. Forgetting all about Runemaster and the odd rocks, Spell switched directions for the glittering objects. A few minutes later she found herself in front of a stall containing a bucket with bobbing gems--GEMS?! Spellweaver gave a cry of glee, tossed her friendly--and resigned--comet into the air and dove into the bucket, looking for as many gems as she could find. A few minutes later she bobbed back up with her discovery....

Or perhaps it will be an unexpected boon?

[(From EclipseDragon:
(You rolled 39)

10 gems

"Not bad, don't spend it all in one place!")]

[…]She was clutching several gems in her paws, and looked quite pleased with herself. Her comet friend was whizzing a little faster than normal--no doubt happy that [she] was grasping something besides him....

11-25-14: After her success at the Bobbing Game, Spellweaver moved off to rejoin her mate at the Rockbreaking Stall, taking his missing Golem--which had joined her there for some reason--with her...

"RUNE!" An excited female Spiral--Runemaster's mate, Speallweaver--came zooming around a corner, waving several precious gems excitedly. She was followed by Rune's missing golem--which was beeping even more loudly than before--and her own Friendly Comet, which looked like he was trying to decide whether to be amused, alarmed, or relieved.... if, of course, living balls of energy could be said to have emotions.

"Rune, look what I got! I can add them to the hoard--oh are those the rocks to smash?" Spell shoved the gems somewhere--Rune couldn't see where--and moved closer to the stall, catching herself from banging into it at the last minute. "Tre said there was some really neat magic in these and you were trying to get it out--is that a Fox Rat? He's cute!"

Rune grinned, petting his new friend. "Yes, he is. And the rocks are right over there, if you want to try... sense for the magic, Spell, you can't go wrong--"

But Spellweaver wasn't listening. She had grabbed up a hammer, and started to swing it. Pausing at the last second, remembering the manners her Clan Mother had tried to teach her, she looked at the Imperial who ran the stall.

"May I?"

As the Imperial nodded, and the hammer came down, Runemaster slipped away. There were some other energy readings further on--and he knew that Spellweaver would find him when she was finished. She never minded his wanderings--after all, she was the same way.

Spellweaver didn't even look up at her mate's departure. He wouldn't go far, and there were much more interesting things to investigate... like the widening crack in her chosen rock.

Hmmm...This could be good or bad...

..And it turned out to be...somewhat good. Maybe...

[(From Renessa47:
(Roll: 57)
The rock came apart piece by piece, and the encouraging flash of purple in the interior got it apart faster. Eventually, the Spiral found herself with a necklace of eternal purple flowers.)]

Spellweaver squealed with glee, and scooped up the flowers, draping them over her body. She couldn't wait to show Rune! Grabbing her comet out of the air, she waved happily with the other hand at Sing.

"Thanks! Just what I needed..."

Without waiting for an answer, the excitable Spiral whipped around and headed for where she could clearly feel her mate's energy pulsing somewhere ahead...

11-26-14: It seems that Spell's energy is not spent yet...

A bright golden Spiral was darting towards the digging stall, clutching a resigned looking comet in her hands, and proudly wearing a wreath of flowers around her long neck. At the last moment, however, she veered off--apparently attracted by something else in the Festival grounds--and narrowly avoided colliding into the head of a stately looking Imperial, who had been studying a scroll.

"Oops! Sorry Merlin!". The Spiral waved her free hand distractedly, "just looking for Rune--his magic was coming from over here, but now it's not--have you seen him?"

"Over that way," the Imperial waved his paw without looking up from his scroll. "He was pursuing that golem of his...something about carrying a new foc--". Abruptly, the Imperial looked up, looking slightly alarmed. "I mean a new rock--yes, just a boring rock. Not a foci..oh noooo....I didn't say that. I didn't!"

Too late. Spellweaver's eyes lit up. "A new foci! Oh goody! I need something new to channel the energy around our campground.... and Rune's foci are always the best... even if they do explode sometimes....over there, you said?" Without waiting for an answer, she zipped away, grinning madly....

Merlin stared after her for a moment, pondering the advisability of chasing her down. After remembering how wildly that jasper Runemaster had been waving had been pulsing, he decided against it. Maybe Spell's energy could, er, balance the stone?

Oh this does not look good...

11-27-14: And it wasn't good. At all. Unfortunately, when they found each other, Spell and Rune managed to snatch Merlin's own prize (an Earth Runestone) while the Imperial dragon was too busy studying his equations to notice, and very quickly ended their "no explosions" streak with quite a spectacular blast..

A slightly singed female dragon headed into the Festival Grounds, looking--resigned. Considering the scorch marks on her wings, and the odd twist to her tail, this expression was a bit odd for anyone who didn't know her, but the truth was Duskcloud knew she had only herself to blame... after all, she was the one who had agreed to assist Spellweaver and Runemaster in their latest project... though she would dearly like to throttle Merlin for letting Spell have that runestone....where had he gotten it, anyway? And why, oh why, did he give that pair a stone that channeled Earth energy while they were in Earth Flight lands? It was a good thing the Pearlcatchers had been able to contain the fallout...

Apparently, combining several foci together, including Jasper, Violet Flowers, an Ice Crystal and an Earth Runsetone to channel it all, makes for quite an interesting experiment...and a decimated camp. Oh boy...

11-28-14: Fortunately, the Clan Mages were able to fix things before the Clan was barred from the Festival Grounds. For Spellweaver and Runemaster, however, the Festival has ended, as Duskshadow used a containment spell to confine them to the camp--without their new toys. Oddly, the pair don't seem too bothered by this. They are spending all their time with their heads together, excitedly discussing the results of their latest experiment--and how the runes on the Jasper need to be tweaked to better contain the magical energy--and don't even seem to have noticed the Clan's ire...

2-4-15: After a long, fruitful relationship, the Runic Bat has finally grown bored--or is it Spell who is in need of a change? Whatever the reason, the Bat is beginning to explore other areas of the cave, and Spellweaver is not at all upset by this apparent desertion.....which may be fueled by the fact that a new interest has caught her attention: Shortly after Runemaster's new friend the Fawn Fox Rat began bonding with him in earnest, a Downy Fox Rat moved into the Clan area.... and why should Rune have all the fun?
2-14-15: Spell decided to visit the Trickmurk Circus this year, and stopped off at the Trickmurk Parade, as a favor to the Clan Mother...

"Oh, pretty!"

Spellweaver stared at the dancing illusions being spun by the Imperials in the parade, wondering if she could reproduce any of them in her experiments. She was very glad she had agreed to volunteer and try and seek out the other members of the Clan. This was fun! Although she wasn't haven't much luck finding Duskcloud and the other dragon in the crowds... should she keep looking?

Just then, an illusion of the Shadowbinder herself appeared, rearing over the crowd. Spell grinned appreciatively as she watched. Now there was a fascinating idea... but this one she knew she could never duplicate. The magic was too intricate, too detailed, and too powerful... why, it was almost like it was the Shadowbinder herself!

Hmmm... wouldn't that be funny? The young Spiral twitched her tail, studying the illusion more closely. Could it be? She shook her head, amused at herself. No, probably not. Just a very powerful illusion being spun by that large royal Imperial over there. But what a thought! Cocking her head, Spellweaver turned to follow the illusion, when she thought she saw something... was that Duskcloud?

Quickly, the Spiral dated forward, heading towards what may--or may not--be her elusive Clanmate, dodging favors as she went....

[(From becky2112:

This float wheels along under its own power, its path drunkenly wandering. It doesn't stick to the same route the other floats use, nor does it indulge in the artful swoops some of the flying floats used. It even spooks one of the guardians keeping the parade route clear as it almost runs over his tail.

Stone columns in the style of the temple surrounding the Forum of the Obscured Crescent decorate the float. The upper parts of most are broken off; two have crashed to the 'ground'. Like, the columns, the rest of the float looks time-worn and broken. There are cracks in the spokes of its wheels. Chips come off the standing columns. Broken-open casks spill favors onto the floor of the float, some of which fall off every now and then. The central dais where the eerie wildclaw stands sways dangerously as the float moves, the creaking sound audible over the crowd.

You're almost sure it's going to collapse before the end of the parade, until you realize this has to be part of the show. After that, it's almost fun to try to figure out how it's done. Maybe, with the right equipment...? Or maybe it's magic? Or both?

A whirl of colorful nocturnes touch down suddenly, making the whole float wobble and groan. They quickly snatch up favors, then dart up and over the crowd, tossing them out indiscriminately. Mania just grins, until he suddenly joins them in flight. The scream of metal and groan of cracking wood as he takes off is more than a little terrifying. Even knowing it's supposed to do that, there's still a nagging doubt...

[…]

The large royal Imperial would be quite pleased to hear how people appreciate the skill of his illusions.)]

Spell did, eventually, find Duskcloud--after accidentally crashing into Twilight--and brought the message that they needed to leave. Duskcloud was not entirely appreciative of Spell's efforts, since she had been trying to watch a bunch of flying Nocturnes at the time, but she cheered up when Spellweaver pointed out that they might catch sight of the Float again later on. So the two headed off together, with Spell scooping up her favor along the way...and then wandering off to find Titania and indulge in some food, far away form Twilight...

2-25-15: In the midst of the Trickmurk Circus, the Clan has been swept into a Prank War with Teeka's Clan. After Beeblebrox received an itching scarf from that Clan, Duskcloud decided to enlist Spellwevaer's help in striking back...

Duskcloud gathered up her materials, and had a quick chat with Spellweaver. The excitable Spiral mage was only too happy to join in some harmless fun. A few minutes with the scarf gave Spell the aura of the one who had made it, and a few more minutes with the materials Duskcloud had given her and one of her own experiments set the prank. She helped her daughter-in-law track down one of the Clan’s Clouddancers, and asked him for a favor. The Sunspot Clouddancer wasn’t happy at first, but once he had been assured that the ball wouldn’t do anything until it met its target, he agreed to carry it to the other Clan.

Arriving at the Clan, the Clouddancer deposited the ball where he had been told to and rolled it carefully forward, then flew to a safe distance. As soon as the two Nocturnes who had made the scarfs came out of the cave, and Spellweaver’s trigger sensed the correct aura, the ball burst open in a shower of glittering multi-colored dust and inert slime that clung to Feldspar and Tourmaline’s body and wings, clashing horribly with their natural coloring. Though it didn’t itch, wasn’t dangerous, and would dry and flake off in a matter of hours if left alone, the slime was annoying—and Spell’s second gift meant that attempting to wash it off would make it last longer—a fact which they would probably soon discover….

Oh dear. Perhaps Spell and Dusk need to re-examine the meaning of the words "harmless fun"...

2-26-15: [(From Teeka:
Feldspar and Tourmaline were caught off guard by the slime ball and quickly tried to wash the mess off, only making it worse in the process. They went from using water to rolling in the mud to try and scrape it off and then tried rolling in dust to try and make the mess dry faster. After this they sought out the nearest source of rags and towels to try and finish cleaning off, or at least they assumed it to be a collection of towels and rags. Unknown to them they had found the day's wash, hung out by Marigold to dry and when the skydancer returned the pair was long gone and she found all her work in a filthy pile of the ground...)]

Oh boy, this does not bode well for the Clan, if Marigold should figure out who to blame...

5-5-15: The Downy Fox rat has finally Awakened! Spell is celebrating by throwing a large bunch of confetti into the air and watching it sparkle.... and the rest of the Clan has rather hastily found somewhere else to be. For some reason, they seem to take exception to the fact that some of the confetti is actually sparking....

5-12-15: Another day, another adventure in magical energies.... and another odd familiar. Is it the energy output required to destroy the sun that attracts Spell to Skoll...or is it just the mayhem this new companion can cause? Either way, he--and his brother--have made themselves right at home....

8-10-15: Skoll has Awakened--and the Sun still has not been destroyed. Perhaps now that he is more aware of things he will refrain from trying--or perhaps being aware of this potential will enable his attempts to be that much more successful.....

11-6-15: After some odd occurrences in the Clan lately, Spellweaver offered to check things out. Unfortunately, giving this particular Spiral something responsible to do is always a gamble...

Spellweaver darted through the mists, searching for the rest of her Clan. They had been disappearing over the last week, using various magical methods to travel to the Tangled Woods, and then returning with an odd assortment of objects and tickets--and vanishing again. The Clan Mother was getting a bit....frustrated. Spell had offered to find them, but she was having a bit of trouble....wait a minute, was that...apples? Throwing her Companion Comet in the air--and throwing her self-imposed mission right after it--the excitable Spiral dove right into the cauldron without waiting for any direction....

Well, it can't be said that Spell didn't find out what was happening to the Clan...

1-12-16: There is no surprise from the Clan this time at the choice of a familiar bond. The only shock is how long it took Spellweaver to find the Unlikely Alliance in the caves.....

1-26-16: Spellweaver and Runemaster have entered the Sornieth 2016 Winter Games at the Ice Festival! They have an interesting set planned....

...Spell and Rune waited patiently for their turn at the Ice Skating competition. Spellweaver's faithful comet whizzed around her, whistling encouragement, while Runemaster's Golem buzzed in quiet anticipation. Usually known as pyromaniacs and magical inventors, the Spiral pair delighted in causing mayhem--and had developed a (completely non-magical) routine to take full advantage of that.

At the sound of the whistle, both Spirals skated out onto the ice, their bodies undulating around each other seamlessly. The looked almost like a perfect whole, rather than two separate dragons. One entity complete in itself, their movements perfectly timed with each other. In the background a quiet piece of music had begun, providing a beautiful counterpoint to their antics.

As the skating continued, however, both the graceful movements and the music became more wild, and Spell and Rune began to twist into figure-eights and combinations that accented their differences, rather than showed off their seamless cooperation. It took only a few minutes for the dragons of their Clan to realize what the athletic pair were doing: They were using their own bodies and the music to simulate one of the explosions they loved so much. The music built to a crescendo as the two Spirals twirled around each other...and then broke apart, skating to opposite ends of the rink, where they performed two perfect quarter-axles at the same exact moment in time. With a flip of their wings both dragons landed perfectly, just as the music stopped. The watching dragons seemed a little stunned at this display, so different from the gentle movements that everyone else had done...

1-27-16: To the shock of everyone--including some of the commentators--Spell and Rune walked away with first place in the Ice Skating competition! The Clan is still reeling from this development....

4-13-16: The Unlikely Alliance has Awakened! And is now whizzing around even faster than ever. Oh dear.....

1-29-17: During the 2016 Crystalline Gala last year, the Clan had acquired a number of odd pets, some of whom immediately attracted dragons to them, and others of whom... did not. One, which insisted on being called "Electrode," has been fascinating Spellweaver for some time, but she was unsure whether or not it would be a good idea to take him in. However, Spell's mate has been eyeing a new pet captured during this year's 2017 Crystalline Gala, "Unown O," and this has made up Spell's mind. If Rune can have one, then so can she! Electrode does not seem that upset by her choice, though that may change the first time she asks him to participate in an experiment with her....

1-29-18: Exactly one year to the day from her bonding with Electrode, Spellweaver has found some new excitement at this year's Crystalline Gala. First, she heard about Rune trying to blow up food with charged runes--the Explosive Snowshoe Rabbit Feet sounded very intriguing--and then on the second day of the Festival she got a chance to indulge gathering energy from snow, and in investigating a new magic...and now the Clan has to figure out what to do with all these energetic plushies that are cluttering up the lair....

7-25-18: Spell and Rune are once again enjoying themselves at a Festival. Fortunately, however, since they dragged Duskshadow along to a Beauty Contest, they do have SOME supervision....

The tent had been quiet for a little while, as the dragons entering Mainframe's beauty contests milled around, waiting to see what would happen. No one seemed to be paying attention to the machine that was usually the center of the action, and it was easy for a certain two Spirals to slip quietly out of the crowd and move to get a closer look...

Spellweaver wove around herself, happily studying the Metamorpher. It was even better than she had been lead to believe by Mystery's tale. So much power sparking around it, so much energy to be felt, so much wonderful magic in the air...laughing in sheer delight, the excitable Spiral shot forward towards this marvelous machine, expertly dodging her mate's tail as she did, and completely ignoring the frightened shaking of her Compamion Comet as the pulsing energy started to build around her....

Runemaster snorted in amusement at his mate's antics, slipping easily past her as she began to undulate in the air near the odd machine. Directing Tre to examine the other side, he nodded to himself. He could not deny that Spell's excitement was warranted. He could feel the runes powering this device pulsing with energy. Oh, what he would give to have full access to the schematic for those runes....Flicking his tongue out, Rune darted even closer to the device, studying it intently, dancing a pattern around his mate as he did so, and absently noting that the air appeared to becoming more charged the longer they moved...

It is fortunate that Dusksahdow was paying attention, and was able to prevent disaster, reminding the two of their need to provide items to enable the machine to work. This interruption to their concentration stopped the budding storm, and thus stopped the possibility of an unplanned metamorphing in the middle of the tent....

10-1-18: It came as no real surprise to anyone in the Clan that Spellweaver and her mate, Runemaster, should develop Spellwrought and Voltaic Halos in the wake of the Starfall Celebration this year. The only real surprise was that it took so long for them to appear....

12-21-18: Recently, Spell's magical aura has been changing, fluctuating through a variety of different reflections. Some of the dragons think that this might be a visual commentary on Spellweaver’s own magic, while others think Spell is actually expereimenting with her own aura. Whatever the reason, the varying haloes have garnered a great deal of interest in the Clan, while everyone tries to guess what will come next. The latest permutation has the experimenting Spiral with both a Spellwrought and a Conflagrant Halo, while the Voltaic Halo appears to have vanished for the moment. It is anybody's guess, however, whether this image will stay stable, or shift again without warning...

3-1-20: Spell has moved on in her experiments, and seems to be focused, at the moment, on using more natural ingredients in her work. At least, that seems to be the most reasonable explanation for why she decided to gather some leaves from the hoard—though why she also gathered up the Clan’s Petal Jumper is unknown. Still, the insect, who apparently calls himself “Flutter” seems happy enough with his new friend…

5-27-20: Flutter has Awakened! And the question of why Spellweaver decided to bond with him has finally been given: it seems that Spellweaver's experiments have begun to lean towards summoning techniques, and the Petalmane Jumper is apparently needed for the last step. Minutes after Flutter reached his full maturity, there was an odd glow, and another, strangely colored Jumper appeared right next to him. This new creature, which is calling itself a Swallowtail Jumper, is already making a home for itself in the hoard. The Clan is rather apprehensive at the thought of what Spell and Flutter might summon next...

5-30-20: Spell took some time off on her experiments to head to the Greenskeeper Gathering Gaming Convention with her mate. What, exactly, Runemaster and Spellweaver want to do at a Gaming Convention isn’t certain, but at the moment they seem absolutely fascinated by a certain Window in the wall. Looking at it is reminding them of all the lovely creative chaos they have caused over the years… ( )
