Cackilina, The One who Laughs

...She found jester’s motley, starkly black and white, and garbed herself in it. Once the mask settled over her face, she managed to smile. Life was a joke — and in jester’s garb, she was well-dressed to deliver the punchline.

The war came to an end. Dragons celebrated the reign of the Eleven once more, but Cackilina turned instead towards the darker voids where Death lurked, waiting to bear away more hapless souls.

She stands at the border, waiting for the day she can ensnare Death. Until then, she contents herself with thwarting their goals: rescuing a should-have died...or disposing of a should-have-lived. Anything to disrupt what Death so tritely referred to as their work.

So if, while visiting Mortem’s Hall, you are waylaid by an “invisible” jester, be wary. Do not be taken in by her innocent explanation: “I’m a jester, friend! This invisibility of mine is a trick I’m playing....Would you like to be in on it?”

Be careful how you answer. Death and Ruune are the target of her “pranks”, and their “punchlines” could well result in your death. “Anything for that perfect reaction!” Cackilina protests cheerfully. “Them being Death, they’ve seen it all.”

She reaches with invisible claws.

“But they won’t see this coming.”

And neither, unfortunately, will you.
