SERAPHEIM !!
P E R S O N A L I T Y
While not immediately apparent at first glance, Serapheim is a gentle and considerate nocturne. Many tend to assume that he is cold and unfeeling simply due to the lack of inflection in his tone when he speaks and his stoic gaze. Truth be told, he experiences his emotions quietly and with reservation. What may seem like a cold glare to another may very well be merely the watchful eye of a concerned acquaintance.

This expression deficiency is due in part to the fact that he possesses certain...powers. He isn't gifted like those of the Dreamshine Cult, but his affinity lies more in the mental realm. The long and short of it is that he is able to read minds. To a degree, that is. Oftentimes he can't control what thoughts he hears or when; they simply invade his mind at random. Well, perhaps not at "random", per se, but he can never predict when he'll hear someone else's voice in his head. He has yet to reveal this power to anyone. He can't fathom the reactions he would receive, the distrust he would gain simply for existing. He knows no one would be able to trust him again and for that reason that he keeps it a secret.

A strange traveler from a faraway land, Serapheim stumbled upon the Starbound Clan completely by chance. He was met at the edge of the valley by a peculiar fellow named Emerson who, upon seeing him, immediately attempted to befriend him. Serapheim remembers that the first few words out of this odd dragon's mouth were that of praise for the "mighty and majestic Arcanist". He'll admit that he found Emerson quite amusing and accepted his offer to visit the clan. When his next offer was to join a mysterious cult called "Dreamshine", however, Serapheim politely declined. Quite the odd fellow indeed.

The moment he stepped foot within the floating isles the clan called their home, Serapheim could almost feel the collective warmth and kindness that the dragons there possessed. It seemed to radiate off of everyone he passed and he wasn't spared a single greeting from any of them. When he met the clan's (now former) matriarch, Glaide, however, something felt the slightest bit different. She was kind and generous, offering him a place to stay while he was in the area, but even so, Serapheim couldn't help but feel that something was off about her. Her eyes were distant, as if seeing something far beyond this realm even though she was looking right at him. It was offputting, to say the least.

As if he had predicted it, she disappeared within the days that followed. He hadn't felt the desire to continue his travels and remained with the clan, basking in the sense of a tight-knit family even though he was practically a stranger to all of them. He was there for the outcry of worry and confusion when Glaide was found missing and, even though he was under no obligation, he joined the party that went in search of her. When night fell upon the valley and she was still yet to be found, Serapheim witnessed a gathering of broken hearts so full of sorrow that it brought tears to his own eyes. He barely knew this strange fae, yet his soul wept for her as if she were his own mother. It was at that moment that he made his decision to stay with the clan indefinitely. He could never forgive himself if he left these despairing dragons on their own after such a great loss.

When the new matriarch was elected—a young but compassionate noc named Desdemonia—Serapheim was wary. He didn't quite understand how the clan had moved on so quickly; just a few nights ago they had been so seized by grief that they could barely breathe, and yet now they simply put someone else on the throne and went about their lives. It was only after another nocturne (a rather lovely dragon named Eurielle) approached him that he began to understand. The valley clan had far from moved on; in reality, they were honouring their cherished and beloved matriarch by ensuring that the Starbound Clan was not left without proper guidance and authority.

The presence of a new matriarch was essential to the wellbeing of the entire clan. These dragons, Serapheim came to realize, really were even closer than blood. Many hailed from different flights, some of which opposed the very existence of the Arcanist and his flight, yet not a single member of the clan cared an ounce for the colour of their brethren's eyes. It was truly amazing to him that a clan of dragons could be so purely loving.

However, the wave of changes within the clan hadn't passed them by yet. Along with Glaide, several other clan members took their leave without notice, including the heir and heiress. The clan had been reduced to almost half its former glory and, without royal blood to wait in line for the throne, there came the issue of electing a new heir and heiress. Not for the first time, Serapheim was confused. Since the bloodline had already been cut off, why wouldn't they simply adopt a new practice of electing a new matriarch or patriarch when the time came? He supposed old habits were hard to break, though, so he kept his maw shut.

Similarly, he chose not to get involved while the clan was discussing whom these candidates would be. Therefore, it came as quite the surprise when he was brought before the makeshift election council and informed that he was to be the new heir. When he asked if he had a say in the matter, he received the answer he expected. Of course, that left the question of whom would be the heiress. Lo and behold, the one to appear before the council next was none other than Eurielle.
