Biography
Cyclone the Shade Hunter love your enemy Theme: Ivar’s Revenge |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Some would say that the Shade was older than the gods themselves, only drawn to Sornieth for its power and life in a universe full of death from its earliest wink of existence. Unfortunately, that was about all that was known about it. And known was still only used in the loosest definition. But Derecho, like Cyclone, was doing her best, and it felt like today they were closer than ever to real progress. If progress was something like devouring cakes topped with syrup and sprinkled bits of a sweet beetle. “You said she just stepped out of a shadow?” Derecho sighed for what seemed like the hundredth time. “It’s impossible━she’s not even a Shadow dragon.” “Just telling you what I saw. What I heard.” Cyclone turned away from the dragon Skydancer and dropped her voice to a whisper. “She said I know him.” “Who’s him?” Derecho whispered back, also turning away. Cyclone took a deep breath and lowered her head even more than it was already. Facing her fears, that was what her job was about. It was for everyone, for the whole world when it really came down to it. They couldn’t depend on the gods, but she also wondered if the world couldn’t depend on her, either. “I think she was talking about the Shade.” “What?” Derecho almost squeaked, and Cyclone hushed her too late. “You think she knows? How would she know? You don’t even know!” “I don’t know, but she knows things.” Cyclone turned to get another peek at their strange visitor. Cyclone had a feeling that was rarely wrong when it came to things like this. If anyone could tell them more about the Shade, it would be this Skydancer. |

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
|
Cyclone is Lightning’s daughter, taking after her mother and sisters in their pursuit of the Shade. She’s never known another life, and never known another enemy. Though the whole of Sornieth is mostly unsure what the Shade is, what it does, or what it wants━assuming it really wants anything━Cyclone knows beyond a doubt that it is the single most powerful entity known to dragonkind. One might say it’s worthy, in some ways, of the utmost respect and fear. And that scares Cyclone more than anything. Cyclone never felt the call to Search for her Charge, and Derecho sincerely believes it’s because she already has one: the Shade. After all, she can’t help her admiration of it. It took all eleven gods to chase it away, and that only barely. The very idea that dragons could do anything about it is laughable. But they’re going to try anyway… if they can. Cyclone figures she may be the only Guardian in Sornieth who has been plotting since day one to rid the world of her Charge if it kills her. It’s likely that it will, and she can’t help but hope, a little, that it does. The Shade entire has not been seen on Sornieth for ages now, but vestiges of its power remain nonetheless. Cyclone doesn’t feel much remorse ridding the world of the tendrils seeping through, controlling unwitting beastclans and touching dragons with its mind-warping influence. As a Wind dragon, Cyclone’s heart pulls her to explore the furthest reaches of Sornieth and beyond, but she doesn’t think her heritage in that way is anywhere near as important as her Charge. As a Guardian, she is called to know her Charge. One day, she hopes know it well enough to understand its weaknesses and use them. She has little sympathy for other Guardians who blindly protect their Charges, no matter how vile. Just as it’s impossible to really love something without knowing it, it may be impossible to really know something without loving it. And in that moment when she truly loves the Shade━in that moment, she’ll try her best to destroy it. |
━━ familiar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Even though Cyclone’s not one for magic, especially the dark kind that animates things that shouldn’t be, she found herself caring for such a statue. Found in the same place as the sword and shield that follows Soren around incessantly, this statue appears to have been brought to life with the same magic. The statue was kind enough to introduce itself as Meeker. It offers some good advice sometimes, but a pessimistic outlook often changes the paths forward. Meeker tends to see all of life and its struggles as a game, the strings pulled by some greater beings who aren’t necessarily looking to their best interest. Cyclone can’t agree. |
━━ clan ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Even though Cyclone’s half-sister Derecho doesn’t fight the Shade herself, she does a great service in the support role of research. |
It took a while for Cyclone to consider Five a friend. After all, she’s a little odd. She doesn’t often speak in full sentences like other dragons do, and she’s often quite upset. It must come from seeing the Shade, from being in its place. Cyclone constantly prods Five to teach her how she sees the Shade, how she walks through the tears to the Other Side like the Shade does. Five assures her she doesn’t want to know: it’s empty, cold, without life. Cyclone knows it won’t be what she wants to see, but she has to know anyway. |
━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Cyclone Shadechaser made her surname from her mother’s and her own interests. » » Even though Cyclone is quite important to the Tempest Chase (some think she’s destined to take over leadership when her mother retires) Cyclone also comes from another famous family in Sornieth. She is six generations removed from the great Night Warrior, Pulchrior. |
