Sclerenchyma
Professor of Entomology

Sclerenchyma (or Scleren for short!) teaches Entomology along with her husband Axon. She has a PhD which she earned at the University of the Behemoth, deep within the Viridian Labyrinth. Axon does not have a PhD (or any qualifications at all) so they divide the workload - she lectures on the in-depth stuff, such as plant systematics, microbiology etc, while Axon has fun going on fieldtrips with the students and showing them how to ID species in the field.

Turns out Autumn was wrong, and Sclerenchyma was not responsible for the surge in endemic wind magic. Instead, her arrival coincided with the new elemental expressions produced in hatchlings, and elemental magic is undergoing random surges that is happening all over Sornieth. This a huge relief for Xylem and Autumn, for now they won't have to turn Sclerenchyma out of the lair. Axon would've followed her, and the clan would've lost their best insect catcher. Both Faes are here to stay, spreading mischief as usual when they're not out hunting those bugs.

There's a change in the air, with Sclerenchyma's arrival, that has become more noticeable the longer she's stayed here. Xylem can't pinpoint the difference, but maybe Axon, the only other Fae, has become more serious, less dogged in his pursuit of chaos...? Sclerenchyma and Axon are incubating a nest together now - so maybe parenthood is finally changing him? But it's not that. The lair feels wetter, greener, when this new Fae flutters past. The wind drops, briefly. But in other places the wind has picked up, a roaring dance of air that makes the Zooclan dragons want to fly, and keep flying, far away to new landscapes and strange faces... Cortex has an itch in his wings, the hunter/fisher teams take longer to travel home, the teachers are more interested in Geography than ever before...

Autumn has a theory, in discussion with Xylem. Is Sclerenchyma's nature magic so acute that their Wind Flight environment is fighting back, perhaps? Are the wind dragons of Zooclan being more affected by their element due to a local imbalance? Autumn finds this particularly worrying. Should they turn Sclerenchyma out? Axon is clearly in love with her. Autumn and Xylem don't yet have an ideal solution, but they have both agreed that soon, something will change. The clan is rapidly approaching a crossroads, and it's probably caused by Sclerenchyma.

Her sense of smell is tuned to chaos, and she has an excellent mind for pranks, despite her vibrant, elegant appearance. She's the perfect friend for Axon...
