Donned head-to-toe in layers of heavy clothing, Crypt is a dragon few would expect to see in the roaring inferno of the Molten Scar. Once a zealous Necromancer, he came to foreign lands with the aim of spreading the Plaguemother’s will – and Her disease. His worldview was carved from an early age into a warped cognition where strength equals status, and plague equals life. Such was how it should be for all realms.

He followed the Plaguebringer’s left hand mantra in earnest, becoming one of the few to survive Her trials and attain Necromancer status. His younger life was sheltered, his knowledge of the world limited to The Scarred Wasteland and its festering sickness, his body forced to adapt to the conditions of the fetid gorge. The disease felt natural to him – after all, Crypt knew only of the Mother and Her plague. To him, becoming a harbinger of Her will was his sole objective and reason for being. It was not that other paths were incomprehensible; rather, they were never within his realm of consideration to begin with. At no point did he think to stray from his Mother’s path: the only thing that existed was Her will.

His unusual eyes gifted him considerable ease in passing the first and second trials, and his flesh became a sanctum of contagion. He endured the affliction with single-minded verve, his primary concern lying with his worthiness in the eyes of the Mother, not with the continuation of his life. Days felt like weeks, and weeks stretched to eternity. At the dawning of the twenty-fourth day, he proved his mastery over the canker, demonstrating in earnest the Necromancers’ calling: dominion over the disease festering in his blood. With the destruction of the plague he inflicted on another, he proved his mettle and attained the title of Necromancer.

However, such ideals are rooted firmly in his past. Though his arrival to the Molten Scar came with the intention to spread his way of life like the virus in his veins, exposure to the outside realms – and their lives without the ever-present anguish of disease – shook his rigid perceptions, which proved brittle enough to shatter once challenged. His transition to life outside of The Scarred Wasteland was harsh and demanding; his responses to misfortunes were colored by a cynical tint, struggling with basic concepts of empathy over antipathy. The weak were scorned in the Plaguemother’s lands; surely all realms mirrored his own, and surely the unworthy should be left to die.

But they were not, and time after time, his callous indifference bred more scorn than the writhing worms for which he harbored such contempt. Along with the miasma of insult and shock that struck him like a glove across his face, Crypt found himself developing a stronger and stronger fascination for these alien expressions of altruism. There was a foreign comfort to be found in these bonds, and that, more than clean air or earth, is what etched away at his deep-rooted beliefs, planting in his heart a seed of doubt – a seed that, now outside the inhospitable smog of The Scarred Wasteland, could hatch into a feeble sapling.

Much time has passed since his beliefs were first uprooted, and Crypt now spends his days in voluntary exile from his original homeland. He keeps the scars that tattoo his body concealed beneath his weighty clothes; none of his clan-mates have seen his skin beyond his hind legs and head. As such, he is especially vulnerable to the Molten Scar’s intense heat, his wardrobe exacerbating the land’s sweltering effects as an unfortunate byproduct of his modesty. He continues to grapple with the more toxic patterns of thought instilled in him during childhood, and much of his outward identity projects a sinister aura that puts others on edge.

Beneath appearances, however, he is surprisingly not malicious, taking active steps to better himself as a person, and going out of his way to embrace life outside The Scarred Wasteland. He does, however, brandish a particularly dark flavor of humor, often making facetious jokes about topics and situations others take seriously, or responding wholly inappropriately to grim circumstances. This causes him to be inherently unlikable to many of the clan’s members, and he struggles to find acceptance without hostility or judgement. Crypt also struggles with behavioral backslides, clinging to relics from his homeland despite shirking his title of Necromancer, further fueling suspicions against him and creating a heavy atmosphere of distrust. His Fungusbearing Phony, acquired in the Plague lands, remains a treasured companion.

His once-great powers of Necromancy have waned considerably after his rejection of the Plaguebringer’s gift. His body has become skeletal and warped, bony spines jutting out the length of his neck and back, with his formerly impressive physique growing frail. Crypt himself finds nothing but dark amusement in his situation, frequently pondering his newfound curse with ambivalence and mirth, wondering the extent of his Mother's ire – and how quickly his own plague would kill him, had he not immunity. His fate seems to have little-to-no effect on his endeavors towards personal happiness, and he continues to strive for those bonds that drove him to stray. Several of his clan-mates speculate his forward momentum is propelled by spite.
