If you were to ask Bakuto how far his riches could go, he would not give you an answer. It is one part caution on his part (the smartest criminals never reveal the depth of their resources), but one part ignorance. After so many years entrenched in Sornieth's criminal underworld, so many schemes and cons and simple tricks, his assets are spread all over the land. It would take a god to know how much he has, and a thousand years to consolidate it all in one place. At this point, it is possible he has forgotten how many treasure troves he has stored across the world, and yet he still makes more with every burst of profit that comes his way. It is safer to scatter his wealth than to leave it all in one place, after all. Too many dragons know his name, dragons who are not above the same cons he delights in. It's his greatest weakness, the allure of new treasure. A gambler at heart, too clever by half, he has been counting cards and weighting dice since he was a child. He was raised in the fug of hidden gambling halls, born out of cigar ash and greed. He learned who was who so very young, and had his claws in all manner of pies before anyone thought him old enough to do damage. Smuggling and grifting entered his repertoire, and once he had the funds and the muscle to back those funds up, he fixed fights, rigged bets. His wealth grew and grew, and with every new trick he crafted, he spread his resources thinner and thinner. Better safe than sorry, better to look like a poorer target than a rich one. But everyone knows that he practically owns the Sornieth underground. He's been around too long, overthrown too many bosses, destroyed too many usurpers. His power is practically absolute when he chooses to exercise it, and it's harder and harder to entertain him lately. A game of cards might chase away the blues for a while, but he misses the thrill of a con so big he can barely handle it. That may change soon, though. He has a new ally, one of considerable strength. Maya has six arms, six blades, and one incredibly ruthless heart. It is perhaps revealing of his wealth that he is able to hire her for such long periods of time, but Bakuto does not care. She is ferocious, something of a demon with her weapons, and she thrives on showing her strength. Sometimes, he lets her battle in his rigged fights, but more often, he has begun to orchestrate assassinations with her at the bloody helm.
