Biography

S O K A
Royal Guardian || Holder of an ancient magic
lightmid.png

The castle was beautiful.

Was. Now, it was a mess of rubble and ash. The beastclans occupied the kingdom, and they had no intention of leaving. It sounds like the perfect start of a long, harrowing adventure for a flawed hero who eventually realizes they are stronger than they seem and grow into a powerful being, earning the love and respect of all those in their homeland.

That isn’t the case here.

A young, overconfident, ambitious Imperial walked in. Just… Walked into the center of a beastclan group occupying part of the ancient ruins. No fear, though it isn’t the admirable kind of courage. It’s the kind that will get you killed. Not that the young fighter would ever admit that. No, he believed he was invincible. Able to defeat dozens of enemies belonging to the beastclans all by his lonesome.

He was so very, very wrong. His overconfidence and belief in himself led to what would be his demise. As he stood there, bleeding out, surrounded by the corpses of hundreds of enemies in the middle of what had once been a grand throne room, he stared up at a statue. It was… Strangely comical. The king, stone-faced and stone-made, letting off a wave of power even though it was just a statue, with a blade going through the head. Somehow, the marble hadn’t shattered beneath the rusty blade that could be beautiful if just cleaned.

The Imperial found it humorously ironic. And the last thing he thought before he collapsed due to the blood escaping his body was, ‘Was this all worth it?’. That statue being the last thing he saw, mocking him as he laid there in his ignorance.

What felt like an eternity later, a voice whispered in his mind. A voice he didn’t know, though felt strangely comforting and strong. The voice was deep and wise, unlike anything he had heard before.

‘Soka…’ The voice mumbled, ‘I know who you are.' A pause, given no reaction. ' I give you a task. A task to complete before I pass over.’ Soka somehow knew that the voice he heard was real yet not real. A ghost of the past connected to him by the thread of death.

‘I commend you for your courage. You have fought valiantly, though your wounds were caused by your recklessness. I give you another chance at life.’ The voice continued, this time just a bit louder and less muddled.

‘Who… Are you…?’ Soka managed to struggle out. Another pause before the voice chuckled. ‘No one important. My task to you… Avenge this fallen kingdom. Destroy the ones who laid waste to it. Become its new king.’ For some reason, almost as if possessed, Soka replied, ‘I’ll do that. I promise, my lord.’

When the Imperial awoke, he found that the pain from his body had been soothed. His eyes immediately caught the crimson liquid flowing from his body, still. In a practiced motion, he eased himself up, gripped the hilt of the sword that impaled the once-comical statue, and drew the sword from the stone.

Bits of rock and dust showered down as the statue crumbled to pieces. Soka felt rejuvenated, almost as if some great ichor flowed through his blood. Strong enough to fight off an army. Strong enough to take back the crumbling kingdom as if that was his initial purpose. Whatever reason he had to come here initially was an afterthought. Golden ribbons of light from the sword danced with crimson magics as each of his wounds healed. Soka flared his wings in valiance. The remaining Beastclan that came to investigate the commotion were given a terrifying, if beautiful sight of a king reborn.

---

It took time, but eventually, every beastclan member was either killed or driven out of the ruins. The new king sighed as he rested among the shattered stone, staring down at the sun-lit ruins. Not as an overconfident and zesty adventurer, but a king with the wish to protect… Whatever was left of this broken land. Or if not the land, to find a new purpose to protect something worth protecting.

The castle truly was beautiful.
