bleak, winter wind softly cried as the ravens tore through, with only the cloaked moon to observe their treacherous deed. carefully, they guided themselves to the forests delicate earth, which lay buried under years’ worth of glazed snow. though it bit and tore at their precious feathers, they lived only to serve her: as their claws reached the palm of her hand, slowly, they gave into life’s cruel ways, and let their skin rot and crumble, their eyes dull and gloss, until finally, all that remained was a divine, spider-coloured rose.

as she basked in the glorious, pale light, her beautiful garden began to wither; the aged trees that so many had admired bowed down to her gaze; creatures of virtue and sin alike rose to her soul and under her command, emptied heaven and hell until the angels could no longer sing and the demons roamed free across the land; merciful gods came pleading, their souls shattering and begging under her mighty song. alluring, delicate rhythms shattered nature’s peace, encaged it in a forever biting and powerful winter.

and at its throne, jieqiong lay, commanding her creatures of elegancy, her heavenly ravens, their souls forever imprisoned in her cracked, withered heart.
